Duke’s is a bit of a tourist trap, but its beachside location in Malibu can make the crowds worth it.
Staff is great
Great experience, and awesome views of the Pacific. We saw seals playing off the coast. Would reccomend if driving by!
I’ve been going to Dukes for years, even when it was the Sea Lion. Always fun and good food.
One negative about the brunch was not the server’s fault but the management should hire one person to make the omelets and one for carving the beef. Otherwise you have to wait while people get their omelets prepared and all you want is a slice of meat. It takes a long time and didn’t make sense.
It is fun and everyone is pleasant.
Duke's is a neighborhood favorite and it's always the first place our friends and family from Arizona want to go.
The food was below average. Very little flavor. Service also was no the best. This is not on my list of places to go again.
Beautiful view. Great food and drinks. Ate lunch and dinner there. Food was good and priced reasonable.
Service was not as good as normal. We got our bread we had requested after our meal!
The beach view was spectacular! Our server was extremely knowledgeable and our food and drinks were very good.
It was our first time in California and Duke's was amazing.. I had the hotpot and it was delicious. I Will definitely go back if I am ever Malibu again.
Duke's was amazing! I definitely recommend coming here. Especially if you want an amazing view of Malibu beach.
Birthday brunch for my wife. Great time and great food
Enjoyed the food and the view
We’ve been going to Duke’s for years. The food and service are both great. The extra special thing, of course, is their spectacular location right on the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean. We saw dolphins!
Dukes in Malibu is fine, not great, but fine. Wish they had a wider selection if fish and that it was grilled. Even though the slaw the fish is served with is quite tasty, a better selection of vegetables would be very welcome.
We had a group of six to dinner. While we didn’t ask for one, we were able to get a window seat with a lovely view of the water. It was Wednesday so we enjoyed wine at $20 off the regular price for a bottle.
Everyone enjoyed their meals. We thought the Hot Pot was the best and most flavorful.
Will definitely go back.
I grew up going to this restaurant even back when it was called the Malibu sea lion.
Dukes is off the hook take your steak surfing it's well worth it
Brought my family and was given 5 star treatment from start to finish.
We stopped here for lunch after a wine tour in Malibu. I had looked up available places on Open Table since they usually carry the best places. We sat at the full length picture windows looking out at the ocean. You almost felt you were on a boat. We got to see dolphins which was a treat. Two of my companions had the burgers which they loved while I had a wonderful salad with seafood. To top it off, it was my daughters birthday and they brought us a lovely and very large ice cream with cookie pie to celebrate. The décor is really cool as is the story behind Duke.
Great for birthdays!! Had an amazing time.
It’ a very nice restaurant, excelente view, excelente service!
We absolutely love Dukes! We came here for dinner the night before my brothers wedding. The food was fantastic, the view is incredible and we got to see dolphins!! The kids loved it!! Our server, Matt, is one of the most personable attentive servers we’ve ever had!! 5 stars for him alone! Some of the dishes we had were the seafood pot, steak, lobster tails, kids meals, etc. Every single one was amazing!
Staff was very attentive & accommodating. Food was tasty.
Visiting Malibu we like all the Duke’s we’ve eaten in and thought we would try this one, we were not disappointed will return again
Of course the view is absolutely spectacular as it looks as if we are directly on the water, similar to being on cruise ship. In addition, seeing the coastline, the sunset is all lovely. The food is excellent as is the service. It was really generous to be served a free ice cream cake for the birthday girl. Also, driving to Duke's is not in issue as we come down one of the picturesque canyon roads from the 101.
This summer we also went to Duke's in Maui, Hawaii and that had to be the most beautiful restaurant experience I have ever experienced anywhere or anytime in my life.
If anything, I would expand the dessert menu and add more non-ice cream choices. Can't wait for another occasion to go back!!!
Sitting by the window with the ocean view was just marvelous. We will return often.
Reserved a table by the window understanding that this may not be possible. Good news - we got one! Arrived too late for sunset but were happy to show our guest (her first time in LA and seeing the coast) the waves against the rocks! This was fun. Restaurant was very clean, open and "fresh" looking... Sadly, while our Waiter was extremely friendly and personable - he was also sadly in such a hurry that he didn't catch two additional drinks - instead running off to fetch the first before others had a chance. More disappointing was that Mr. Nice Personality was equally as out of time for us through the rest of the meal!
Food was very good and creative - but priced accordingly. Had a great pina colada, too!
Overall, if you're going for the ambiance - good choice. Good food - likewise if you know you'll pay the tab for such. Service, pretty disappointing!
My friend and I celebrated my birthday in January and on February 23, came back to celebrate her birthday. We really enjoyed that much. The desert we were served was so very good!
Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The view was spectacular even though I didn’t have a window seat the elevated tables/booths we perfect.
While presentation of food is not always consistent (5 visits with same items ordered), always tasty. Recommend snap peas, mac nut and herb crusted fish, and of course the Hula Pie! The view is always incredible and the valet staff friendly and professional.
My experience was horrible. I made a reservation for 1:15pm, showed up at 1:08 so I was given a buzzer till our table was ready. Decided to sit at the bar and wait to be buzzed. After 15 min without a buzz I go up to hostess and ask how much longer, and she stated that she had buzzed me 3 or 4 times and i didn’t respond so she gave our table away. MY BUZZER NEVER WENT OFF. She
Mmade me feel that it was my mistake, and I did something wrong. She then states that we would have to wait an additional 15 minutes till something opened up. What?! She was very rude and dry and just unaccommodating..... oh and unapologetic!!! No apology for your buzzer malfunction!!? Why didn’t i get a phone call after the 2nd buzz???
Hostesses need major customer service training. They all were dismissive, rude and just BLAH. They also were dressed excessively casual, and unprofessional (frumpy).
Food was mediocre.
Best part i would have to say was the female bartender that we vented to. She gave us a round of drinks on the house and was very kind and apologetic.
Get rid of your hostesses. They do nothing for your establishment.
Our waiter was wonderful.
Very good dinner at Duke’s! Have been to their location in Maui many times and always enjoy it. Busy and beautiful Sunday afternoon in Malibu meant the place was very busy but staff was gracious and did not make us feel rushed. View of the Pacific is great and the dining room is quieter than the barefoot bar. Their were four us including two teenagers and everyone enjoyed their meals. Steaks were cooked to perfection and drinks were mixed cold and strong. An excellent evening out!
I was here for my second visit in two weeks. We loved it so much the first time we brought some family to try it out a week later. unfortunately, this experience was not similar to the first. We chose the outdoor seating. The views are absolutely spectacular but this time the food was not the same.
My boyfriend ordered the filet mignon medium with mashed potatoes and no green sauce. It came out very rare and the potatoes were cold with the sauce covering everything on the dish.
He felt bad about sending it back but he did. The second time it was cooked better however the green sauce was still touching everything on the plate. He was not able to eat his meal and he really did not like that sauce and it unfortunately ruined the entire thing for him. The meal was a little on the pricier side and I felt bad that he wasn’t able to eat it. He was not going to send the food back for a second time...
I wish we were compensated for that inconvenience.
We arrived at 12:20 pm for a 12:30 pm brunch reservation. We waited several minutes for the valet to take our car. We then checked in at the front desk, and were told that our ocean front table should be ready in about 20 minutes. 45 minutes later, we were still waiting. We inquired at the front desk and were told that "we had only been waiting about 20 minutes, since we checked in at 12:43pm". After some arguing, we were finally offered a table with a nice view. The Sunday buffet offers nice food choices, but there was only 1 person making omelets AND carving the tri tip, resulting in 20 minute waits for omelets. In addition, they kept running out of French toast, pancakes, poke and cookies, and not refilling these fast enough. We had a very nice and efficient waiter who made the whole experience more tolerable. Overall, we enjoyed the food and wait service, but wish that the front desk staff had been more honest/forthcoming, and that the buffet could have been better stocked and staffed.
Brunch without waffles is not brunch. Very disappointed. The food was good but please bring back waffles
We were there for Sunday Brunch and we don't regret it, their food was really good, very tasty and they have a big selection for everyone and their service was really nice.. Overall it was great!
everything we ordered was really good.
Finished with the Hula Pie, Yum.
Excellent service i love the food and the place . I'll come back to Duke's again
Everyone was really nice. I got the table I requested by the window. My fish tacos were delicious. Our waiter was very nice and brought me a big slice of ice cream cake for my birthday. Will definitely come back again soon!
