Duke's La Jolla
We were about 5 minutes early, but they didn't seat us within 15 minutes of our reservation because people were “camping out” at their tables. Then when we were finally seated they put our party of 6 at a 4 top. There wasn’t enough room at the table for our food or for us to sit. We never complained but the manager knew he had a problem and the gave us complimentary appetizers which was a nice gesture but the experience was bad. The food and service was ok but overall it was a disappointing and stressful for everyone.
Best mai tai
Can’t go wrong
Excellent across the board!
Duke's was great! Food was good. Place was great! Would recommend to a friend
We had a very nice Mother’s Day dinner, the food was good to great. The service was good as well, we had a problem with a few things. There was a dead fly in one of our Ceaser salads, one of the spoons we were given for dessert had chocolate smeared all over the bottom of it, and the glass we got for our milk was disgustingly dirty! They replaced the Ceaser salad with a new one right away and did the same with the spoon & glass! But just not what you want to see at a fine dinning establishment like Duke’s La Jolla. Maybe because it was dinner service on Mother’s Day (not too busy) that there was not a house manager on the floor making sure everything was to our liking?
Shrimp pasta and the rice & brocollini that came with the mahi (fish was seasoned correctly) were over salted. Don't know if the chief that night is of his/ her game. Good service and nice location.
Food was flavorful, service was friendly, and great ocean view.
I would typically recommend dukes to friends, but not after my experience on Mother’s Day. Apparently they were short staffed so when we had 2 more people show up for our reservation it was a huge deal, even with large tables open the entire time we were there. After some comments on how they are being so accommodating from the manager they were able to seat us promptly inside. I was appreciative since it was our mistake to add people day of, but the comments were unnecessary. We get calamari every visit and usually our favorite, but unfortunately the wrong sauce was on the plate and that is what makes the appetizer. When I asked the waiter he said he was new and he had no clue what I was talking about...welp the menu still says guava cocktail and remoulade not tartar sauce but okay he was nice so I didn’t press the issue. The air conditioning was leaking all over my mom. The sodas were flat and replaced still flat. The outside tables were mostly 4 tops so I understand why parties of 10 would be sat inside however while we were there almost all the 4 tops with ocean view had 2-3 people sitting there that were walk-ins while we were waiting for our table to be ready. The patio was then almost empty when we left the restaurant. I guess they are looking for a quick turnover on their patio and would rather seat their large parties with reservations inside. To me making a reservation weeks in advance should take precedence over walk ins but whatever. I would never return here with more than 4 people again. When I’ve booked through open table before my special requests were always known and addressed but not at dukes. We were celebrating a 60th birthday and Mother’s day and it felt less than special. Choose somewhere else for your special occasions.
Had a lovely lunch with great service and the best fish ever
We enjoyed the food and the gorgeous view; service was better than the last time we were there. Mother's Day maybe not the best day to go to Duke's, it was super crowded with people taking selfies right by our table (which had a nice view) the entire time. Cute at first, then became kind of intrusive.
This place has great views! The ambience is not the only factor which attracts people here, the cocktails are equally promising, and the food tastes great. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fine dining experience.
Enjoy the location and found the staff available and attentive. Was really deliberating on whether I would recommend Duke’s. Decided probably not as it was the second time I had fish tacos and there was very little fish. Imagine one thin french fry no longer than 2-3”. There you have it. Seems like they’re economizing. That said, location is spectacular.
Moms birthday dinner! Very nice time and they brought us a birthday dessert for her
Celebrating my husband’s birthday. We were able to sit outside is a lovely view of La Jolla Cove. Our waiter was so charming and attentive. I do entrées were outstanding as well as our crab Rangoon appetizer. Drinks were fun. And the ice cream pie that we got to celebrate my husband’s birthday with was the finishing touch.
We had the corner table overlooking the ocean. After that nothing could compare.
I really enjoy coming here. It does give me a sense of being on vacation in my own hometown and the service was very nice. I think it was Amy who helped us.
I also enjoy their Lavender Colada (virgin or with a dark rum float)
The fish was fresh and delicious, they gave a wonderful Hula pie as a gift for my dear friends 40th bday and you can't beat the views and the breeze on a perfect, San Diego day!
Fantastic experience. We arrived about 30 minutes ahead of our reservation and asked the hostess to buzz us when an outside waterfront table came open. We had a great drink at the bar and our bartender had lots of great recommendations. A few minutes ahead of our reservation we were buzzed and our awesome table was ready. Excellent recommendations for food and other drinks by our server. We had the mojito, coconut mojito, house special spicy margarita and mai tais - all were great. We also enjoyed the shrimp cocktail (house cocktail sauce is amazing), the ahi tacos, ribs and the macnut fish entree -we recommend all. We finished with a key lime tart which matched the deliciousness throughout the meal. Highly recommend for a chill night with good food and drinks.
Screaming crying table of kids on both sides of outdoor seating at our table couldn’t even ruin this 25th wedding anniversary lunch. But but their parents didn’t care about any other patrons cleanly. We loved the food, drinks and the view. Severs were friendly and we saw seals in the cove below 👍👍.. Should put restrictions on deck for “safety reasons” to keep ill-mannered parents and kids away from everybody’s conversations and views. Lol 😂
Asked for water front, they said yes but our table had no view of the water.
Duke's was outstanding as always. Service was excellent; wait staff are always attentive to customer needs and responsive to requests. Duke's La Jolla is our go to restaurant for out of town guests. The view is wonderful, looking out over the blue Pacific ocean and it's always fun to wander around the quaint town of La Jolla afterwards.
We always love going to Dukes! The food is great, the view is amazing, and the atmosphere is always fun!
My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at Dukes and Dukes was amazing! Great service all night by John W and crew.
Awesome restaurant experience. Great views, staff, and food. The atmosphere was really nice as well.
The restaurant itself was very pleasant. Plenty of space, and not too loud.
Our waitress was very attentive and polite.
The wait time for the food was a little longer than expected, but it came out piping hot and exactly as ordered.
My only complaint of the entire experience was that the menu is pretty small, and there weren’t a lot of gluten-free options. While for most this isn’t a problem, it matters for folks with allergies.
Overall, great experience and I would go back.
Great view and relaxing patio
Everything was great except the view table we requested a week ahead of time was given away
Always love visiting Duke's when in La Jolla! Wish we could have heard the live music on Friday but understand that the happy hour is popular.
We loved this place. The hostesses were very nice and accommodating for our desire to get a table looking out at the ocean! We were there for lunch and had coconut shrimp for an appetizer and salads for our main entree. Our server was great! We would definitely go back and hope to if we visit San Diego again.
Love this place. Great food, service and view. We will be back.
Had a great birthday dinner for my daughter overlooking the LaJolla cove. Great view and great food! Everyone loved it!
Excellent food, service, and overall a fantastic birthday dinner. Will definitely dine at Dukes again!
Very, very noisy! Ouch!
I requested a table with a view since it was my friend's birthday and he and his wife were visiting from out of town; and we were sat outside with a fantastic view of the ocean. The food and drinks were excellent and the staff was incredible.
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Went here for lunch on Easter Sunday. There was about an hour wait... thank goodness for Open Table reservations! We were seated on the outside patio right beside the glass barriers. Because it’s San Diego, we had a clear & beautiful view of La Jolla Coves. While waiting for our food the kids enjoyed watching the sea lions & some people snorkeling. The food was amazing, as always. The seafood was fresh... but the best is there dessert: Kimo’s Original Hula Pie!!! My family & I frequently visit the many islands of Hawaii & make it a point to dine at the other Duke’s restaurant locations.
Yummy food and great atmosphere. A piece of Hawaii in San Diego!
Amazing view and great food!!
Amazing views, great service and the best breakfast burrito! We had a wonderful Easter brunch.
We love Dukes and since it was Easter Sunday I’ll give it a pass this time. Our waitress was not friendly or engaging. She acted like she didn’t want to be there. Our order took an unusually long time and the food was cold. We didn’t say anything because we were starving. It won’t keep us from going back to Dukes because we’ve always had great service and food and this was just one of those times that it wasn’t.
Great food, great service for a busy day!
