Duke's Kauai Ratings and Reviews
We have visited Kauai about a dozen times and we have dined at Duke's every time. This is one of those restaurants that you keep going back to, great food and Hula pie. My wife loves the salad bar and I love the prime rib. We will be back on our next visit.
Duke’s has become one of our preferred dining sites during our annual visit to Kauai. They have great fresh fish and the macadamia nut preparation with an exquisite buerre blanc sauce is a must. The wine list is interesting and fairly priced compared to other fine dining restaurants on Kauai. Service is friendly and attentive.
We were disappointed in the food and overall experience at Duke's. I ordered the filet and chicken brochette over rice. It was delivered cold. Our server was so busy we couldn't get his attention because the servers were slammed. He said he would ask the chef to remake my dinner, however all they did was microwave it. It came out cold again and extremely dry. It was a total loss. The salad bar was only a good deal if you added to the meal for $4.00, otherwise it was $18.00 with only a small selection to choose from. My husband ordered a fish special over rice. The portion was small and lukewarm at best. We skipped desserts-not very interesting. The cocktails are basic and very expensive.
Food was great, I had the prime rib the waiter suggested he liked the prime rib grilled and spiced with cajun spice, so I tryed it, prime rib ended up to be medium which was ok I like very rare meat, the spice was not that pronounced, next time I will just get the regular prime rib, my girlfriend had the prime rib she ordered it medium rare but it was more on the rare side but she ate it and loved it she commented it was so tender. The bad part was we asked for leftovers to be taken out and the waiter never brought our food back, but we were having such a great time that we forgot about it till we were in our car.
We had dinner here before heading to the Lihue airport for our departure. There are two areas with different menus, upstairs fine dining and downstairs bar/informal dining. I wasn't aware of this until we showed up and were asked which area we wanted to be seated in. We chose to eat upstairs in the more formal area. Both were very busy. The views of the ocean were excellent. Service was very good and the food was average. Overall, this place is probably one of the better dining options for anyone headed off to the airport because the proximity was excellent... minutes from the airport.
We live on Oahu and have always enjoyed the Dukes (and sister restaurant Hula Grill) in Waikiki. We were equally pleased with the Kauai edition. In fact, the restaurant itself is more pleasant than the Waikiki unit. This is not gourmet dining. This is simply prepared seafood, tasty fish tacos and very good salad bar (only a $4 add with an entrée - a bargain!). Go and enjoy the view, the atmosphere, the service and the food. We won't miss it on our next trip to the garden island!
Three gorgeous ladies greeted us and gave us the table we had requested. Calvin the waiter went along with all our fun and we all laughed and laughed and laughed and ate a little in between. The food was good as always but I was hurt as the salad bar went up another dollar. But delighted that they put the wontons back on the appetizer list.
I was introducing a new family to the area to this favorite local spot amd I now they will be enjoying it for years of birthday and anniversaries.
Calvin was the absolute best waiter ever!
The three of us went to celebrate New Year's Eve without all the noise and fuss and to share, once again, the special feel of Duke's...plus, it was our 57th wedding anniversary. It would have been nice to hear the strolling lady musicians who were there in the past, but their absence did not take away from the setting, the good food and the excellent service. Mahalo!
My family of 4 ate at Duke's on Christmas Eve. We made reservations thru OpenTable and requested a table along the railing when I arrived. We waited an extra 10 mins or so, but it was worth it for the better view. We all ordered the filet. 3 of the 4 were cooked perfectly, but mine was slightly overcooked (med well vs med). It was still delicious! I mentioned it to the waitress just so she could pass it on to the chef and she quickly said Hula Pie for dessert was on the house. The pie was huge, enough for 4 to share, and absolutely fantastic. Prices were reasonable for Hawaii.
We wear seated quickly. Amazing view of a small bay and beach. Our table was on the restaurant side of the covered patio and both had great views of the water. The restaurant was busy and appeared to be full and we never felt crowded or hurried. My sister ordered the filet mignon cooked medium-rare. It came out nearly well done. It was taken off our bill (without question and they were apologetic), after I brought it to our server's attention. I on the other hand, ordered the "moon fish" with a Mac nut crust. I can honestly say that this was one of the the very best meals I have eaten ever. Very happy with the service and overall experience. We will be making this a holiday season tradition.
Overall a good experience and we will return. Great view overlooking the beach and ocean beside the Marriott Beach Resort in Lihue. The downstairs restaurant and bar has a casual menu and the upstairs has more upscale dining. It was very busy during Christmas week but from what I hear it is busy year round.
When we arrived and checked in we were offered a table next to salad bar and kitchen door. I indicated dissatisfaction to the hostess who stated there only obligations a table at our reservation time. I was told it would be another 10 to 20 mins to change tables which became 30 mins. By the time we sat down it was 8:30pm. The food is good and reasonably priced so I would still go here but we didn’t love it.
