Duke's Kauai Ratings and Reviews
The service was awesome by both the hostess and wait staff. The location is fantastic as is the ambience. The food was some of the best we had on Kaua‘i, including at some high end restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner out on our last day on island.
Loved the ambiance and the spirit of the place! There was live music playing when we arrived and had a wonderful vibe. Our waiter was pleasant and very friendly. Our only issue with the food was the salad bar. Salad was wilty, not cleaned, and the oil and vinegar bottles were so greasy they were difficult to use. Our prime rib was spot on, though. We would recommend Duke' s to friends but warn them about the salad bar.
My wife and I (and friends) have been eating here for years when we visit Kauai. Always great, like the salad bar a lot. Staff is always wonderful. We like the many fresh fish options with several ways to have it prepared. Other entres good as well. View is awesome. Open air with ocean view.
The best part of the meal was the hula pie. Frankly, we were a bit disappointed in the meal. The presentation of the food lacked originality. Two lobster tails (a bit overdone) sitting next to a pile of rice with a few sautéed vegetables to add color. The fish had decent flavor but it was a bit dry and overdone. It too came with rice.
Service was good but for the price we paid we expected much better.
Our waiter is one of the very favorite we have ever had while eating there. It is so nice to see their friendly faces and would suggest this spot to anyone. Much thanks to the gracious manager for stopping by and making sure we were happy. This is one of the warmest dining experiences that we have had. Thank you Kim, Frank, and the awesome staff!
Food and location were great. Duke’s needs better coordination between the reception check in and the bar. We had to wait 15 minutes to be seated for our reservation (past the appointed time) so we opted to go to the bar for a cocktail. Unfortunately the bar seats were all full and there is a separate waiting list for a cocktail table. Neither one tells the other if there is a wait until you make the trek to the bar. Slight inconvenience when balanced with the food and location on the water.
Open floor plan so all occupants can enjoy views of Nawiliwili Harbor and the two lighthouses. Great value for Kauai. It’s fresh fish and beef products were reasonably priced and tasted delicious.
Frank was our server, and he took spectacular care of my wife, and our two boys. Especially our two year old who slept the entire time. Frank put together two chairs and made him a little bed so we could enjoy our evening in peace.
We had a dinner reservation at Duke’s on a Saturday. Our table was ready when we arrived and it was the kind of table we requested. We ordered a bottle of white wine. The wine was a little bit too warm but it chilled in the wine chiller so that the second pour was better. Unfortunately our server was not not really interested in refilling our glasses. So we were left with that task.
Our dinner was very good (Ahi and swordfish). The salad bar is fine, but had no outstanding items.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner.
We thoroughly enjoyed Duke’s. It feels fancy but because it’s on the beach the dress was casual. Fabulous salad bar to start you off. Large portions and the food was delicious. Just wish we would have saved room for dessert because it looked delicious. The service was fabulous. Great ending to our stay in Kauai.
The food was wonderful, and our server was fantastic. We were celebrating our 54th anniversary, and she presented us with a luscious dessert. Our only complaint is we would have liked a better table, such as, a view of the water and not sitting in a walk way.
This place was recommended by a local and after checking some reviews, we decided to stop for our last dinner on Kauai before catchI got our flight home. The touristy surf decor was what you might expect. The service was not great - the waitress took my hubby's drink order while I was in the restroom, and never came back to take mine. The food came out quickly but most was barely warm.
The food itself was horrible! My fish (spicy ono), which I'd been assured was fresh caught, was dry, over-cooked and tasteless except for a bit of seasoning. My hubby's lobster was equally flavorless. The mashed potatoes were literally like glue. And the fried crab & cream cheese won ton appetizers (highly recommended) were greasy and the crab filling tasted like cheap canned crab. We left most of our meal, essentially donating $100.
Don't waste your time or money here. Probably ok for a drink but even then, there are likely far better options.
We had the best view of this island paradise from our table. Our server was simply outstanding! Our experience was relaxing and enjoyable as we were well cared for while dining.
The food, the drinks , and the dessert and of course the service ...just another day in paradise!
The food, while not imaginative, was delicious and well cooked. The service was attentive and for as busy as it was, just fine. Would I go again or recommend? Probably not. Why? It’s really just a tourist spot. My first sentence says it all. The food was delicious for the most part, but not imaginative. Overdressed Chef’s special salads on the salad bar. A mediocre variety of veggies on the salad bar with interesting dressings. The bed of rice was oversalted and the side veggies were the typical frozen squash medley with a bit of oregano on it.
The fish! Oh, the fish! Perfectly cooked, well seasoned and totally worth the trip.
The famous hula pie while good, didn’t reallly need to contain a quart of ice cream. A smaller size would have been just as delicious and done the job effectively.
In general, there are better (more interesting) dinining options in the area.
