Duke's Beach House Maui Ratings and Reviews
Overall - we love Dukes! However, we would not go back to this location. The menu did not match what was served (I.e. a desert described as covered in berries...but no berries...or mashed potatoes with surprise ingredients. Typically you can choose your fish and then select how it’s prepared- not at this site. Also - no famous Duke’s salad bar. Total disappointment compared to other locations.
The food is just ok. Fresh line caught fish ruined by over cooking. Salad pretty boring considering it was the local farmed salad. They need to pay more attention to quality when cooking the food. The service was great.. our waiter playful fun and on top of everything. We had to wait 30 Min even though checked in on time.
Overall food was average as I had the filet and lobster dinner. Both of us wanted the fresh catch but our server came back and told us they didn’t have it that day. The only other fish offering was two different kinds as a choice and we were never offered any other fish choices rather odd for Hawaii.. filet was below average and lobster was a little better
Our server Jackie was great— orchestrated the request to enjoy our drinks and apps before the arrival of our entrees and wine. Poke tacos were delicious, as was one entree, the ahi furkaki. The reason for the mediocre rating was the poor execution of the banana leaf fish entree We’ve been coming to Dukes for many years and this was always a favorite— not this time. I sent it back. To their credit, they offered a new dish,; we ultimately decided to accept a credit. Service was great, food mixed, hence the rating.
They repeatedly asked me prior to our reservation if it was a special occasion, which it was my son's birthday. However they didn't mention it at all at dinner or do anything "special". The food was not good. The salads were probably the best thing we tried. And the price was outrageous for food that was subpar!
We dined at Duke's twice during our recent stay on Maui, and enjoyed it both times. Duke's has a friendly, casual atmosphere, and the beach side setting is lovely. Food preparation and presentation is very nice, although very similar to its associated restaurant Kimo's. Kimo's sits right on the water in downtown Lahaina, and offers better cocktails, but the food at either is comparable, and very good. Appetizers at Duke's were excellent, especially the crab cakes and shrimp and macadamia wontons, and the entrees did not disappoint either. The service at Duke's was truly outstanding. During our first visit, my daughter was cold, and a cocktail waitress literally gave her the jacket off her back. Overall, we were very impressed with the welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, and look forward to dining at Duke's again on our next visit to Maui.
Food is good if you actually get to taste it before you die from starvation. Service was slow though attentive, food took forever to arrive. But once it finally came, everything tasted pretty good. Loved the ambiance, awesome ocean views, fresh breeze, great place for lunch and dinner.
A popular place which is always buzzing with people. Get there early if you want to have a place to sit and so you can see the sunset. Food is usually pretty good although I didn't much like the opah; a bit strong tasting. Perhaps that's why it was covered in pesto sauce. Mahi-Mahi is always tasty and moist. The Lava pie is hard to resist but beware; it's enormous. Best for sharing. Enjoy!
My family and I visit dukes every year when we are on Maui. It is one of our favorites and a must visit! My boys and husband had the surf and turf, Tristan lobster tails and filet, was excellent! I had a holiday pairing of mahi mahi and posh, also excellent! We ended with hula pie, delicious from start to finish, and they make the best pina coladas too!!!! See you next year!!!!
