We were whisked into the dining room as soon as we arrived to meet the rest of our party. The service was top notch and very helpful. The food was just right with drinks to chat with friends. Overall a wonderful time was had at Duende.

The food is excellent and very tasty. The service was slow and the wait staff didn’t remember some of our drinks order. We were going to the Symphony and told the server, but we almost did not have dessert because the service was running late.

We love Duende and have eaten there many times. Service, food and ambiance are always great. This particular night they were slammed due to a show at the Fox Theatre and the bar was backed up. We received our appetizers before our cocktails — we had actually finished our appetizers when they arrived. Same experience for wine we ordered to have with dinner. They were obviously not staffed properly. Which is quite common right now due to staffing shortages. But they were very apologetic, brought us a glass of sparkling and comped our drinks. Our server was great and handled the situation very well. How a restaurant handles these type of situations says so much! I hope they can find more good people to add to their team — seems like a fun place to work. We highly recommend Duende.

Food was excellent. Brussel Sprouts may have been the best we have ever eaten! Entrees were great. We had the cookie plate for dessert. Perfect amount to solve the sugar craving. Margaritas very well done. Service, first class. Loved the decor.

Duende is a lively downtown spot near the FOX where there was a performance the night I was at the restaurant. The food is very good and cocktails are imaginative and flavorful. It's so good to have this fine restaurant in Uptown Oakland.

Every single item I ordered from the Tapas to the paella were some of the best food I and my party had in a long time. The Brussels sprouts were hands down the highlight of the night. Can’t wait to show this place off to others.

I haven't been here in years. Our server was friendly and helpful. My friend's burger was undercooked after making a specific request. The server and kitchen righted the mistake. Overall, not a bad experience and food. I liked my cocktail. A good option in the area for a Monday. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

I thought the atmosphere was really perfect for a dinner with my grown daughter and her significant other. The vaccine/ID card check I felt was annoying and unnecessary. My husband had a cocktail as did the significant other. Both cocktails were superb and interesting! The food was excellent. Delicious Brussel sprouts, a lovely paella, terrific chocolate cake. Service was also wonderful. I highly recommend and would go again in a heartbeat.

Our servers were prepared and asked us if we were going to Symphony. We were and they brought out our food accordingly. We started with drinks and the cocktails were spectaculars. We had two of their delicious appetizers - the cabbage and we also shared the shrimp. We had the lamb paella and it was marvelous. The service staff suggested the wine and it was just right. I highly recommend Duende for dinner.

This was my first time at Duende; I used a gift card from friends. The service was great, and I enjoyed the tapas and sangria very much, overall. I found the ambiance a little plain and uninteresting, and I would like to see more poultry and fish options, but overall, myself and my guests enjoyed our experience.

My East Coast brother had a window of just a few hours and wanted to take me out to dinner. I sent him links to 4 notable and ethnically diverse options in Oakland and Berkeley and he choose Duende. It worked out great in every respect. Culinary artistry and seamless restarauteurship prevailed throughout. Pefect ambiance for a brotherly reunion. He'd selected a bottle sustainably grown Pinot Noir that was a lovely balance of sweet fruit and tannin and worked well with every dish. We shared three tapas - each with distinctive assemblage of ingredients, artful presentation, delightful mouth feel and taste. We went for the shared Paella de Carne with house made sausage & clams - outrageously delicious, served by the paella chef who explained its distinctive elements, with suggestions how to best enjoy. The paella was rich so we finished with espresso and the cookie plate. I didn't see the guest check but mental calculation would be about $185 - $200 out the door. Our server was very skilled, nearby when we wanted her attention and pleasantly engaging with her version of Oakland mature hipster charm.

Duende is the perfect romantic dinner before a show at the Fox. It's right across the street and has amazing cocktails, yummy tapas food (especially loved the slow-cooked veal dish), and great ambiance. Service was also impeccable - there was a miscommunication and our paella did not get to us in time. They immediately comped all of our drinks, brought us a new round for free, and had both the chef and the manager come speak to us to apologize. Above and beyond service and we were so grateful! 10/10 recommend

Duende is a very cool looking restaurant that I thought would be perfect for a date. it was actually quite loud and difficult to hear each other speak. The food was fair, though we had the restaurant week tasting menu, so perhaps it wasn't as good as their usual offerings.

Hadn't been to Duende since the pandemic started and was pleasantly surprised that nothing had changed. The service, quality of food and ambience remain top quality. There is a reason why this restaurant has lasted in Oakland when so many others have come and gone. Duende is consistent and a keeper.
