Portions were small. Everything needed more seasoning. My daughter found a hair in her burger. On the upside, the wait staff was friendly and kind. Nice overall atmosphere
Mediocre food, average ambiance. Wouldn't go back or recommend it.
Overall, the experience was excellent. We were more impressed with the starters (biscuits and jam, crab and corn hush puppies) than with our meals (french toast and eggs benedict). If I went back, I'd order a bunch of the different starters rather than one entree. Service was excellent and prices are reasonable. Fun location!
No waiting to be seated for our brunch reservation. Restaurant is pleasant and full of light. Noise level is muffled enough so that you can have a conversation without yelling. Food was good, not great. The best thing we ordered was Brunswick stew. It was different than others I've tasted. Meaty, full of vegetables, in a hearty, tasty tomato sauce. The french toast was good but apples tasted kind of canned. I can't be sure. They weren't real tasty apples. Rather bland. Not sure if the syrup was real maple or artificial, either. The veggie srambles were eaten so I assume they were acceptable. Wait staff was efficient and pleasant. Overall, a good experience.
Limited menu. Needs a salmon dish for dinner menu
good food. yummy. fun location. service was slow at first to table. also we could not get reservation group at 7 but at 7 the place inside was empty. if nice day call ahead they may have more tables as they can’t book tables outside online.
Was not sure what to expect, but what a treat for the tastebuds! Corn bread and fried brussels sprouts apps were very tasty. Brisket and catfish were fantastic. Will definitely be back! Went pre-soccer game, & table turned quickly, but never felt rushed. Other diners were going at slower pace & seemed relaxed and happy as well.
Fantastic pre-game spot for a Nationals game.
Reasonably priced good food for a pregame quick dinner.
I took my parents here who were visiting from outside of DC. We were able to sit outside and the weather was perfect. Lots of people were going to the Nationals game later that night. We ordered the crawfish dip for the table, which was a hit. My parents got a burger and the steak special and both cleaned their plates. I got the blackened catfish and it was delicious and not too spicy. They had a great selection of local beers and frosé! I will be heading back here with my friends to enjoy happy hour in the future.
Enjoyed it very much! Would recommend. Family friend and group friendly! And amazing food!
The food was great but service was lacking a bit. We weren't greeted for about 10 mins after being seated and our appetizers came out before our drinks. Hoping it was just an off night and will definitely try again due to our satisfaction with the menu!
10/10 would recommend. My twin and I went to Due South for a birthday dinner with our mom. This was our first time being here and I would def return. Our waitress (can’t remember her name) was lovely from the beginning. We tried basically all of her recommendations and the food was absolutely delish! The fried Brussels sprouts, shrimp and grits, and shrimp jambalaya was AMAZING. I also had the Shoo-Fly Punch and I was satisfied. Typically, most places oversaturate the cocktails with ice and sugar but my drink had a good amount of alcohol without making me feel like I was taking a shot.
All in all, Due South was great and I would recommend trying it if you’re in the Navy Yard area. A side note that this is probably the closest thing to “Southern” food the DMV has to offer unless you’re going to a more “mom and pop” establishment.
Always enjoy my experience at Due South! Thx
Excellent birthday dinner for my husband and our family!
Stopped here to eat before a nats game. Ambiance was chill and perfect for adults, families and even outdoor eating with pets. The food was delicious and plentiful! We had the pork wings and the bbq platter which was more than enough for my husband and I to share. My son had the kids macaroni and cheese which he found scrumptious! Will definitely return for brunch!
We had a late lunch early dinner. I had afros a, my companion a due south lager. He really enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich. I liked my fried green tomatoes very much, although would have appreciated being told that they had raw onions on them. We may well come again
Rude host not accommodating to seat us at a prime table.
The food is a very heathy southern food and doesn’t taste like the south.....for instance, fried chicken needs more seasoning than what they offer.
Was sat on the outdoor patio with no shade or umbrella - Stood in the shade next to our table most of the time. Even though we asked to move into the shade and they said they have reservations coming in but no one showed up to those tables.
This is a great spot in a relaxing location. The service was spot on, making you feel welcome from when you walk in the door. The food here is always amazing, as is their season cocktails and rotating taps. Love Due South - one of the best brunch spots in DC!
I have been there several times but was not impressed by this last visit. Food wasn't great and the valet situation was awful.
Delicious food, great cocktails, awesome atmosphere. 10/10 will be coming back when visiting DC!
Great food. Great time. Great service.
A nice place for a meal with friends. Attentive staff, interesting menu, solid food.
Excellent food and service! Love the brunch menu, especially chicken and waffles!
So I've never been at a restaurant where I'm having such a good time with my friends that after we drank, ate, and paid our bill we decided to go for another round of drinks and more food to only be told that we had to get up from the table (be use we were there for over 2 hours) and could find seats at the bar. (Please forgive the run on sentence). When I said the bar is full and can't accommodate the 4 of us the manager says, well there are a few seats over there. He made absolutely NO attempt to accommodate us anywhere else in the restaurant that was NOT even that busy. This is completely and utterly unacceptable behavior from a restaurant. Due South was not that busy on 5/11/19 at approximately 7:15 pm. Who turns away customers who are trying to pay more money in your establishment. I will NOT be back AND I will be telling my friends and acquaintances to not eat here. Horrible. It's interesting how District winery who was MORE busy than Due South was indeed able to accommodate us after just a 5-7 minute wait.
Due South has beautiful and welcoming natural decor that sets the mood once you walk in. The surrounding area around the restaurant is a nice view as well. The food was good I just wish they had more vegetarian options on the brunch menu. The frozen alcoholic beverages are really great!
Food and drinks are on point, 6 out of 6 people that I dined with were very happy with their meal. The server was attentive and very professional. A
Delicious barbeque, crisp pickles, tender sweet potato fries. Very helpful waitstaff and front door hostess
Food was tasty as always but it was so loud, we couldn’t carry on a conversation. I’d go back when it’s sunny and outdoor seating was available.
The beer cheese was excellent. We were there on Derby day so it was loud, but that is to be expected.
I'm from Texas, so southern food is my thing. My girl friends were visiting from Texas & I live in the neighborhood. Since my boyfriend and I had been so pleased with our previous brunch experience we thought dinner would be a hit.
I much preferred brunch over dinner here. The food was very heavy & honestly left me with indigestion. We all ate about a fourth of our food, that's how heavy it was. We got ribs, the gnocchi (table favorite, the veggies tasted so fresh), catfish, wings, and the pimento cheeseburger. I am also a huge fan of Gruyere cheese so we ordered the fries, which turned out to be giant cheese sticks. They would have been very flavorless without the sauce.
One food item you must get is a side of macaroni and cheese.
The drinks, however, were well crafted and extremely delightful.
Our waiter was very kind, attentive, and made us laugh. Being from the south we also think its super funny that they wear flannels. haha
This seems like a very mixed review. BUT we will for sure be back for brunch & if we come back again in the evening it will be to enjoy some of their delicious cocktails & the crawfish dip (which we didn't try this time around).
A great post baseball venue. A good, rotating, selection of draft beers.
A cozy place.
B-day Brunch event with friends was good time, good food & good service. Wanted to stay longer, possibly order desserts but we ran out of time before next reservation. :(
Great food, great service, great reccomendations from the server
Unfortunately, the ambience and customer service far outweighed the food. The food is quite pricey for a ‘southern/BBQ’ restaurant. My boyfriend and I tried this place out on a weeknight, after sampling wine. We ordered the wings and brussel sprouts, which were very good. For
the main course, I tried to stick to something simple, as I wasn’t too pleased with the dining options. I ordered the fried chicken (deboned and flattened breast) with string beans and grits. The chicken was very, very bland with the bread coating removed. The chicken was fried in a way that it naturally separated when cut into. My boyfriend was even displeased with the lack of flavor. This continued throughout my side dishes. My boyfriend ordered the BBQ platter, which he said was ‘okay’.
It was a nice try, but nothing close to southern or BBQ cuisine, I will not be returning. Especially after the $100 bill....
It was a cool place to grab delicious drinks and ok food while catching up with friends.
We went for Easter Sunday brunch. We sat outside because it was a gorgeous day. We really enjoyed the food and ambiance. I had shrimp and grits and hubby had the eggs benedict. Both were delicious! Our server was very pleasant and attentive.
Amazing food and accommodating wait staff! I would highly recommend Due South - my parents already want to go back!
