The smoked wings were amazing! I got 6 wings and the chopped brisket tacos. The tacos were juicy. The Frose was yummy, but if you like a sweet drink like me ask for simple syrup!
Great food. Service is friendly if not a bit slow to start, but not feeling rushed is nice too.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Due South. Everything was great form start to finish. The place was clean, the staff was great, the food was fresh and delicious.
Took our mom there after an afternoon on the water. Had a party of 7 and had trouble finding a reservation. Due South was more than accommodating! My only complaints were the obnoxious table of guys that were clearly hammered and continued ordering tequila shots. Interesting choice of a place to get sloshed, definitely took away from the family outing we were hoping to have. The food was pretty good overall with a few hits but more misses. I had the brisket which was very good, the collards which were good too, and the Mac and Cheese which was very disappointing. It was pretty dry and lacked seasoning. The service however was impeccable. I would consider trying Due South again but would choose different sides. My family had the friend chicken, which I’ve had before too, and I would not recommend getting that.
Granted, with COVID, everything is a little shaky so I’m willing to give Due South the benefit of the doubt. Thank you!
The fried chicken was tasty and a great portion size for the price. Beer was cheap. Service was terrific!
Had a reservation for 830 and was informed last call for food was 845, which is hardly any time. I get the restaurant closed at 9, but then don’t have a seating time at 830. The waitress rushed us out.
The corn fritters are amazing as is the pulled pork!
Very attentive service, awesome outdoor dining with waterfront views. Food was de licitud!
Was going to post this publicly but being in the industry, I understand that things are challenging due to the restrictions. My experience- Got a text stating our table was ready. Went to the host stand with no one there, waited about 10 minutes for a host to show up. Seems like they were a little understaffed so there was a manager running the host stand. No big deal, we get it. However, she sat us at a dirty table. There were waterings left on the table from the previous guests so it wasn’t even wiped down. And keep in mind, a manager had sat us at that table. I usually don’t make that much of a big deal. However, we are in the middle of a pandemic still and if they are not even wiping down tables, I am very curious as to what other sanitation measures they are corner cutting. Took about another 10 minutes for a server to greet us. Once again, we understand what busy is like. We gave our appetizer order and drink orders the second the server got to our table because we knew she was busy and we were starving. 25 minutes later, we finally received our drinks. This is where the frustrating part comes in. We were basically left unattended at our table for nearly a half an hour. After receiving our cocktails, the manager comes to our table and tells us that we need to get our orders in because the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes. Which is kind of hard to take, when we’ve been left alone for a half an hour, still haven’t received our appetizers and had to wait 25 to 30 minutes for cocktails. So, we gave our order to the manager with a couple of deletions due to some dietary requirements. Then, when the food came out, it came out as printed on the menu with none of the deletions we had requested. Additionally, the food was sub par. Being in the industry, we didn’t complain and just chalked it up to the restaurant being understaffed and not prepared for a warm Wednesday night. Not blaming the staff, this one all comes down to management.
drinks, food and service were great !
Fantastic food even better service. Would highly recommend
Our recent trip to Due South was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in DC. As we were escorted to the table the host rudely announced there was a 75 minute time limit for the table (even though there were parties that had been dining well before our arrival and were still going strong as we were leaving at 75 min mark). The service was extremely slow - it took almost 10 minutes to get water cups and almost another 5 before the wait staff came over for other drinks and food. The server only checked on our table once providing no other opportunities to order additional drinks, food, or dessert before they dropped the check. I’m disappointed with our experience at Due South and will not return.
I made a reservation for a monday evening with the intention of having a quick dinner before the nationals game. I made a resveration for 4 people outside at 6:30 PM and got a confirmation and everything for it. We showed up and the restaurant was closed.
Due south is always the best! Great food, great drinks, and a fun atmosphere.
Great experience and great atmosphere extremely accommodating to last minute changes! Loved every bit
Delicious food and drinks. Good price. Will go again.
Double check the menu items to see if they have changed at all. Even with that there were a few substitutions to items that were not listed on the menu or known until the food arrived at the table.
Due South is a great casual dining setting, but the quality of the food and drink is a class beyond any other restaurants of similar ambiance. The service is great and the food is fantastic. Not to mention, an after-dinner stroll along the Capitol Riverfront is a great way to end a great meal!
Great wait staff. Food was wonderful.
I am not a food critic but I must be honest and say I was sorely disappointed with the service my family received while at Due South. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday and her Mom accompanied me, and our two children. Without providing too much boring detail, the server was rushed and seemed far more interested in the party of young men off to a room to our right. The food was room temperature at best and did not taste particularly good.
We were served the following: Shrimp & Grits, Brisket & fries, Smoked wings, Brisket tacos, and my son had some kind of burger. I took my order to go as I knew I would be working late and thought I would just have my food later. After paying the check, I left the restaurant to get the car and found myself waiting a while when my family emerged about 20 minutes later. Apparently, the to-go order was sitting at the bar and the server mentioned someone was to bring it over to the table.
Later that evening I ate the food I ordered which was the pulled pork on brioche, and some fries. I was very displeased with the food and ended up tossing it.
Now for the hopeful part...I realize we are all getting over this pandemic foolishness that has killed and injured so many lives and how we live; that undoubtedly translates to restaurants as we are only human. We will return to Due South in the future and give it another chance because I believe there is no way a restaurant so beautiful would be that awful, and yes, it was pretty awful.
Even though the server was less than accommodating, we made sure to tip her beyond the already added gratuity as we know it must be a challenge to be on your feet all day, wearing a mask and dealing with the public.
Thank you, Due South. You will see us again.
great cocktails, lots of outdoor space, friendly service
I made a reservation here for a Monday and they were closed. I wish they would update their open table so that reservations were accurate.
Hailey was our server she was AMAZING! The food was better than expected and the staff was friendly and accommodating
Our table was available immediately. I made reservations for outdoor seating in the tent. It was a little chilly but our waiter turned on the heating lamps when we requested it. The food was delicious. We unknowingly when during restaurant week and ended up getting a great deal. 3 courses for $35. It was well worth it.
The staff was EXCELLENT. Kelly and Mike are the best
Everything we ordered was fantastic! I rarely go out when everything we ordered was great! Super pleased w our server.
Thanks for a great time!
I had the meatloaf with mash potatoes and collard greens!!! DELICIOUS
The food here is always amazing. Never had a bad meal and the set menu for March was a great touch with so many options.
Great food at great prices. Very satisfied with my experience
Great place. But service was slow and our meals came out before out drinks. I understand the 75 mins time limit with optimize business during COVID, but chugging a Bloody Mary after eating while being rushed out should warrant extended time with the poorly timed service.
Great experience! All COVID -19 protocols were in place which made me feel safe to dine indoors.
Will be back
The restaurant was closed should have been allowed to make a reservation
The restaurant was closed when I got there. Not sure why they are taking reservations during hours that the restaurant is not open.
Great experience, great vibes, great atmosphere, great food and drinks
5 stars all the way around. Great menu (if you like Southern inspired food), great preparation, great service and a great experience. And bring your appetite. Serving sizes are generous, just as one would expect in the South. Due South is a gem that should not be missed.
Great service, food and atmosphere!
I usually get the chicken biscuit but decided to get the chicken and waffles to switch it up. The chicken and waffles really didn't have much flavor and I was greatly disappointed. Due South is usually a go to for us on the Hill, but I was extremely let down. .
Sooo yummy! Great outdoor area that was very social distanced.
