Great for brunch!
I was excited to try this place since southern is not the typical place my boyfriend and I would go to.
To start, this place was not crowded when we arrived yet we needed a reservation and could only get an 8pm time.
We sat down to order drinks and it took forever to get some waters. I finally got my jalapeño vodka lemonade drink which was OK. IT would have been a little better if it was sweeter. Then we started off with the Brussel sprouts And then We ordered the huge meat platter and a Cobb salad.
The Brussels were delicious I thought. The dinner was not my favorite the meats were typical, nothing to rant and rave about. The food reminded me just of typical kitchen cooking. It didn’t have any outstanding flavor that I wouldn’t get from being at home. The macaroni and cheese was a bit dry and not as flavorful as I had hoped
The cob salad Was good. Filled with toppings made it so much better. We split everything we ordered and each got a drink. The bill came to 123$ which I felt was way too expensive for food I could make at home. I wouldn’t go back and plan to try other dc restaurants. It’s a shame :(
Due South is excellent. I had the crawfish dip and shrimp n grits, my friend had the brisket. Both meals were delicious. The brisket was very tender. Great atmosphere, by the water. Definitely will go back.
Not many healthy choices on the menu
We had started off with one server who seemed like she wasn’t interested (guess it was her time to get off ) and she ended up asking us what we wanted to drink and appetizers then there was a long wait time because she left i think but then we got another server (she was awesome ) food was great soooo delicious . Drinks were kind of too strong for our tastes but that’s good for others. We picked there specifically for my birthday hoping it would be super special and on the water we were placed behind a beam at the smallest table in there.. while there was hardly any one else in there and endless options. We found amazing ratings for this place we live in Maryland about an hour away. We picked it for the brunch menu which said they served until 3 we made a reservation for before 3 and were given the dinner menu. Which was great for my boyfriend not so much me. Not saying it was horrible experience and I’ll never go back for the food. But it just definitely isn’t somewhere I’d spend a special occasion ever again :/ kinda disappointed in the atmosphere/service of a few employees but the food was something to come back for.
Our server-waiter was just fine. She was polite, welcoming.
The problem came in the delivery of entrees. There were three of us. However, when the food was brought to our table...there were only two entrees. It took nearly another 15 minutes to get the third entree. Not good.
I normally have a pleasant experience at Due South and not this one was any different but I didn’t like the brisket quesadillas so the rating is based mostly on that menu item.
Very small portions for the price. I got a frose drink, which was $13 for a small wine glass size, and a Cobb salad, which came in a small bowl. I know it was the lunch portion but was surprised by how small it was. Especially since it was $20. Food tasted fine and service was good, but overall disappointed.
Very clean. Nice area. Server seemed a little rushed. Food was very good and that is coming from someone from Mississippi! One of the best whiskey/bourbon selections i found in all of Washington DC. I had the fried chicken. Was a little over cooked or it was in old grease. Cheese grits were very good. Most everybody else got the pulled pork and said it was very good and very close to BBQ in Mississippi. Loved the decor of this restaurant! Very modern with a touch of rustic southern flair. We enjoyed this place very much.
My first time in DC and Due South was recommended. It did not disappoint!!
Good food convenient to Nationals Park for a bite before going to a game. Loved the "pork wings"
My second time here and its one of my favorite spots.
Outstanding and no pressure service, they did everything to accommodate our needs. They forgot to bring a dish but the waiter attitude compensated.
Great, casual atmosphere! Delicious food. Super service!
Great food, great service, but need some more private tables or booths. Very noisy bar area right next to all the tables. We could hear the conversation of the table next to us. Food was delicious though.
The chicken wings were good, or so we thought soon as we bit into the second piece there was blood so it was under cooked, but the flavor was good. The chicken a waffles was a disappointment, the chicken breast was bland and looked to have been cooked in dirty grease. I did not eat the chicken, waffle was good but I was expecting chicken a waffles. My husband had the French toast which was good, only complaint was that it came out cold. They probably prepared while waiting for my chicken breast. The waiter was really nice and helpful with suggestions. The restaurant and location was nice as well. Overall all I wouldn’t recommend to a friend or return.
Great food, service and ambiance. I will definitely return!
June 27th was my second time visiting the restaurant. The food was once again, very tasteful. The wait time to receive our (Table for 4) food was unacceptable.
We arrived late but staff was accomodating. Food was excellent and service was good. I would definitely recommend and return.
Due South was great! the pittmaster's platter was a hit! If you want to taste a little bit of everything on the menu, this was a great option, and totally enough for 2 people to share. the food was nothing short of amazing blackened catfish with the signature hot sauce. the collard greens were mouth watering and i just overall enjoyed the environment and the food. drinks could be a wee bit stronger, but overall no complaints.
Been many times. With reservations, seated quickly. Attentive service. Tables a little crowded together. Recommend a booth. Sunday morning seemed like ladies brunch day so it was a bit loud. Ordered Shrimp and Grits. Hearty full meal, not as spicy it should be though. Crab hush puppies were over-cooked. Bottomless mimosas made it better. Waitress kept glass full.
Good food, nice patio seating, and very cordial servers.
Love the atmosphere and service is always great. As one from "cajun country" I have an issue with the shrimp & grits as you should not have to use fork and knife to cut the tails off the shrimp. The dish is meant to be eaten with a spoon. Otherwise really good flavors and wide variety on the menu.
The waitress recommended great dishes. Everything was delicious and my clients were impressed.
Great place to gather before a Nats Game
Went there after a Nats game on father’s day. Not very crowded, which chr was good. Greeter was very inviting and accommodated our request to not be seated right under the AC. Don’t believe the menu. Can always customize. Light southern cuisine. Very tasty and lots of traditional options. All the seafood items are great. Bit pricey for the neighborhood, so not a regular stop.
One issue was the service. Very slow. They did not seem understaffed either with the wait staff or kitchen, so do not understand why the food took so long. Zero updates from staff even after asking. Seemed like she could not be bothered. Again, not very busy. Fix that part of it and it is a nice, after game hangout without the baseball crowds.
Great spot to hang out peacefully with friends!
Portions were small. Everything needed more seasoning. My daughter found a hair in her burger. On the upside, the wait staff was friendly and kind. Nice overall atmosphere
My rating is based on comparison with past experiences, which would be 5 star overall. The brunch entree (eggs Benedict with a thin layer of pulled pork) was bland, even with the spicy Hollandaise that didn’t complement the pork. Due South has a lot I love, so I’ll try again.
Mediocre food, average ambiance. Wouldn't go back or recommend it.
Overall, the experience was excellent. We were more impressed with the starters (biscuits and jam, crab and corn hush puppies) than with our meals (french toast and eggs benedict). If I went back, I'd order a bunch of the different starters rather than one entree. Service was excellent and prices are reasonable. Fun location!
No waiting to be seated for our brunch reservation. Restaurant is pleasant and full of light. Noise level is muffled enough so that you can have a conversation without yelling. Food was good, not great. The best thing we ordered was Brunswick stew. It was different than others I've tasted. Meaty, full of vegetables, in a hearty, tasty tomato sauce. The french toast was good but apples tasted kind of canned. I can't be sure. They weren't real tasty apples. Rather bland. Not sure if the syrup was real maple or artificial, either. The veggie srambles were eaten so I assume they were acceptable. Wait staff was efficient and pleasant. Overall, a good experience.
Limited menu. Needs a salmon dish for dinner menu
good food. yummy. fun location. service was slow at first to table. also we could not get reservation group at 7 but at 7 the place inside was empty. if nice day call ahead they may have more tables as they can’t book tables outside online.
Was not sure what to expect, but what a treat for the tastebuds! Corn bread and fried brussels sprouts apps were very tasty. Brisket and catfish were fantastic. Will definitely be back! Went pre-soccer game, & table turned quickly, but never felt rushed. Other diners were going at slower pace & seemed relaxed and happy as well.
Fantastic pre-game spot for a Nationals game.
Reasonably priced good food for a pregame quick dinner.
I took my parents here who were visiting from outside of DC. We were able to sit outside and the weather was perfect. Lots of people were going to the Nationals game later that night. We ordered the crawfish dip for the table, which was a hit. My parents got a burger and the steak special and both cleaned their plates. I got the blackened catfish and it was delicious and not too spicy. They had a great selection of local beers and frosé! I will be heading back here with my friends to enjoy happy hour in the future.
Enjoyed it very much! Would recommend. Family friend and group friendly! And amazing food!
