Perfect afternoon dining al fresco. Enjoyed the food and special brew choices. Noise level was a bit higher than others offering similar faire.
Food was excellent and so was the service. Only complaint was that the air conditioner over the booth section was in way too high for it being a rainy Saturday in September.
Our server wasn’t very knowledgeable about the drinks available when we asked what the Due South IPA was - she said the Goose Island IPA but knew nothing more. She also made no effort to find out anything further. On the other hand, the food was absolutely fantastic. Will probably return due to the food alone.
Burger was raw, but quickly fixed and offered a free beer for the trouble. Food was great after that small blip.
we found Due South on Open Table via geo search. The food was very tasty, many options and everyone enjoyed their entree. We also had two appetizers which we really enjoyed as well.
Very happy with our pre-DC United game meal. Food was well prepared, portions were nice sized. Many varied selections to choose from. We had the rib platter, chicken platter, trout and veg cake. Sides on all entrees were very good. No complaints. One of the more affordable options in the area. Recommended for families.
Not exactly waterfront but close to the water and Nats Stadium. Good for pregame meal. Enjoyed the food and our server (Lea?) was very good.
The wait staff does a disappearing act that would make David Copperfield jealous.
The restaurant would be great if they worked on the menu. For example, I had the shrimp and grits. It had shrimp, grits, whole cherry tomatoes, andouille sausage, and other veggies; too much “stuff “ that took away from the dish; It’s shrimp and grits, those items are the star of the dish; if the other items must be added, make them the supporting flavors by making their size smaller, and less of them. Make a creamy beschmel sauce or a lighter sauce to accompany the dish. A creamy flavorful sauce would mean less Old Bay on the shrimp. And from a gal who came from a southern household, I don’t know what kind of grits was in the dish, but it was soupy and grainy...not creamy and firm. I’ll try this place one more time and try another dish....
Would recommend because convenient to stadium for Nationals game. Food was good, drinks enjoyable.
Nice atmosphere pre-game and seemed excellent for groups. Menu comfortable -moderately creative- not boring.
A group of us met for dinner before a Nats game
Nice place, good location, and good service. But the food is wanting. We ordered burger, brisket, and hair loom tomato salad. All tasteless, really. Very surprising. Too many toppings on burger left me wondering how the meat tastes. Brisket looked and tasted bland. Tomatoes were average and burrata bland.
Nice place - good food and beer and the service was friendly and efficient.
Service is great and food consistently good. It's one of my go to places in the Navy Yard area.
I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance, the food and the view.
Enjoyed Due South and would definitely go back. A friend had the 1/2 chicken and I opted for the 1/2 ribs - both were outstanding. Service was great. Ambiance is relaxed with a hip vibe, and I saw patrons in shorts, jeans, and suits all enjoying themselves. Prices are good, which is rare in a town that has a lot of restaurants serving mediocre food at high prices. They seem to have a meat orientation to their dishes; the vegetarian options are mainly salads; so if you have vegetarians in your group you may want to have them take a look at the menu online. Highly recommended!
Brunch was fantastic. Esp the chicken biscuit and bloody Mary
Another great meal at what is quickly becoming my favorite pre-game location. Great food, excellent service and a lovely walk to the ballpark. So great to see the growth in the neighborhood. Looking forward to our next visit to Due South!
It was just ok. Nothing special. It was ok food with ok service in and ok restaurant....
Wish our waiter was more friendly and attentive.
Excellent B-B-Q, great beer and service. A bit on the loud side. Overall very good
Great Southern Kitchen. I like Due South because the interior is very nice, not over the top, and the food is good quality. I have been to some restaurants where they try to make the BBQ super fancy and focus more on the presentation vs. the taste ! Due South is very flavorful and the price is reasonable for what you get.
There are two places I go to before a Nats game and Due South is great for a meal. With good beer and cocktails to set the ambiance.
Overall, the food was quite good and most of the staff was extremely prompt and courteous. Went for a weekday lunch so it was pretty quiet in the restaurant, not sure how the acoustics would be if it the dining area was full.
we would go back in a hot minute if we lived closer. I was traveling on business.
Due South was a good divergent from your typical eateries. The menu options were different, so examples include bacon jam and pineapple slaw. I had the pulled chicken sandwich which was a little sweeter than my preference but the flavors were good, on the other hand, the house chips were amazing. While my husband enjoyed his burger, he thought it to be on the dry side and the did not have A1. Overall good experience with a concise menu.
Great location for pre-game dining when attending D.C. United or Nationals games.
We were looking for a fun place to grab dinner before a concert at Nationals Stadium. Due South was the perfect pick! The food was fantastic, the service was great and the decor of the restaurant was really cool! I would definitely return.
Adaptable, friendly staff, great food (baby back ribs muaaahhhhhh) and a great semi-private location for a large party. Couldn't have asked for a better night. Thanks and see you again soon!
Great food, terrific service - nice job!
This was my second year there for my birthday and we had the same table. All in all it was a great time!!!!
I love the food. I have tried 3 different dishes and each one exceeded my expectations. The pecan pie bar is phenomenal.
It was our first time and we came fir the brunch everrything was good.
Everything was great. The Boss Hog was unbelievable.
Lovely farm to table southern inspired options
Good food ok but service wasn't good at all. Took forever to get drinks and food. Our waitress was too busy on the phone.
Brunch was poorly executed and felt like it was just thrown together. The food was poor in quality, and didn’t taste fresh. Have enjoyed this restaurant in the past but will not be back for Brunch.
I’ve come to Due South several times and I’ve always had a good experience. My last visit was decent but not exceptional. The food and drinks were great per usual; however the service was lacking. We had to flag other waiters/waitresses for basic stuff like napkins and straws. We received one refill of our water. A few more visits to the table would’ve been great. It looked like our waiter was training someone, so maybe that was the issue...not sure, but do better.
I loved the atmosphere and decor of the restuarant. The service was very good, seated quickly and attentive wait staff. The squash puppies were delicious! Loved the buttermilk fried chicken and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the bbq platter that he split with his friend. Ample amounts of food and great flavour! The peanut butter pie was a great finish split between the 4 of us. Walking along the river front after dinner was a nice bonus at the end of a great meal.
I was really excited to finally eat at Due South but was sadly disappointed by the food and service. The biscuits were actually terrific but the pork benedict I ordered mainly consisted of pork fat and VERY little meat. My Bloody Mary was so spicy that I couldn't even finish it-and I like spicy! Our server (Henry) also neglected us nearly the entire time and never came back after we received our food until we were finished. He might have been new to the industry as he didn't handle the amount of tables as he should have and kept going back and forth instead of handling multiple tables at a time. Unfortunately I will not be coming back here for the food or service. Maybe just a froze at the bar!
