The most positive thing about our visit was that the food was good. Service was only fair. We had to wait much too long for someone to take our drink orders, even though the place was almost empty. We were initially seated in what could be a private dinning area. Which was a little strange because all of the tables we passed were empty. The four people at the table next to us were extremely loud and using foul language. We asked to be seated elsewhere and were satisfied with the change. It took much too long for the waiter to take our drink orders. When he finally arrived, I explained that we were going to Arena Stage that evening. He understood and took our complete order at that time. The wine and food arrived in a timely manner and we did enjoy the food. As we left, the waiter told us he hoped we would enjoy the theater.

Due South is typically a good, reliable destination in Navy Yard. However, this last visit was not. I was excited to try to Salmon grit cake and while delicious, it left me still hungry. For $16 it should be more substantial. My in-laws fries for both their burgers were cold, inedible. Food was auctioned off, never got lemons that were requested for our waters. Bloody Mary had no garnish. The place looked great with holiday decor and the server and host staff were very pleasant.

Waiter had little to no knowledge of the menu and the availability of foods on it and then forgot to take my wives’ order. When giving us the bill stated loudly that for groups larger then 6 a mandatory service tip was put on....

Will look for another spot when in town.

Great drinks & catfish w/ jalapeno cheese grits at the bar. Joint is well decorated w/ warm lighting and a overall chill vibe (w/ a couple screens to keep your eye on the game if ya like.)
Night we were there was kinda slow at the bar but we were all but ignored and had to ask for all our cocktails and food orders. Not sure why she paid more mind to chatting w/ co-workers than her customers but it did dampen the otherwise good experience.

Been here a couple times and don’t think I’ll be back for dinner. They gave us the wrong specials menu and one of us ordered off it. Instead of catching it at that point, the waiter put in a order for something “similar.” When it arrived incorrect, we sent it back and ordered something else. Nothing was done to remedy the mistake or he delay in getting he new dish. My dish- braised short rib- was tough and uninspired. There are plenty of restaurants nearby so I wouldn’t (and won’t) bother with Due South.

I came to the restaurant on a first date. I had the brisket (extremely flavorful and tender) and my date had the catfish. Both dishes were excellent. The restaurant was sparsely populated as it was a rainy Sunday evening. I'm sure this venue gets packed during the summer time. If I had a suggestion to make for the restaurant it would be to revamp the corn bread recipe. It was a little underwhelming (cold and lacked flavor). Overall an excellent experience.

I was not impressed with the service after making a reservation for my birthday. The special occasion was shared at the time the reservation was made. Table was not so great and my entree was just ok. Given a choice I would not dine here again.

Due South was absolutely fabulous! My go-to spot at The Yards. Everything from starters -- squash puppies, wings, Brunswick stew --to mains -- ribs, shrimp and grits--to dessert -- the bread pudding -- were delicious. Highly recommend.

My friends and I enjoyed coming here for brunch. I had been here once before and recommended it for this outing. All of their food is well made and delicious. The shrimp and grits are the best! Service is great and attentive, and the atmosphere is really cool.

Excellent service only overshadowed by the southern flavors of the food. Why not get jalapeño grits with the pimento cheese burger. Juicy fried chicken sandwich too.

I love Due South I've been there a couple of times before. I usually get the pulled pork, but this time I had the ribs, which were delicious along with coleslaw and collard greens. Two of my friends ordered the braised beef with dumplings, they both were disappointed that there so very little beef in the dish. When they mentioned it to the waitress, she offered that it was more of a stew than a entree, but didn't offer more beef. The lima bean hummus was delicious as well. I orderd the house red wine and as a self proclaimed wino I left the wine unfinished, it wasn't that good at all. Overall I like Due South and would recommend it to friends, but stick to the old standards.

I really enjoyed our visit to Due South. My wife and I were celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary with close friends (group of 8 total) and we couldn’t have been more pleased. The maitre de was very accommodating, the table was cleaned and ready for service. The location of this place on the Navy Yard waterfront is nothing short of spectacular. My wife and I toured the immediate surroundings of the restaurant and found an outside dining area attached to the restaurant. We will certainly revisit that area next spring. As additional notes, the valet was affordable & quick, the food was delicious and inexpensive, and the services was awesome! We will be returning for a date night dinner once the weather warms up. I recommend this restaurant to any and all that will listen!

The staff was unable to seat us in the window part of the restaurant even though there were no other people in the restaurant when we arrived. I was told that those tables were for people who had reservations. I told the seater that I did have reservations. So the manager came out and moved two tables together for our party of 3. It was s teal hassle. Not the first time this happened. Not sure we will go there again.

We wanted to find a restaurant at the Yards in order to walk by the water after brunch - the restaurant itself does not have a view of water.
The food was very tasty and true to the name (If you're going to a southern themed restaurant don't pretend you're going to find a low-fat meal).
This was a birthday brunch so we didn't mind splurging, but with the price tag we won't go regularly.
Lots of single professionals DRESSED to see and be seen.

There were four of us, and we were all very happy with everything -- especially the outdoor patio to enjoy the beautiful weather!! Everyone was satisfied with their food from flavor to portion size (salt & pepper ribs, shrimp & grits, fried chicken breast special with real mashed potatoes)!! If you're looking for a new location for southern style cooking, we highly recommend!!
