Everything was great. The Boss Hog was unbelievable.
Good food ok but service wasn't good at all. Took forever to get drinks and food. Our waitress was too busy on the phone.
Brunch was poorly executed and felt like it was just thrown together. The food was poor in quality, and didn’t taste fresh. Have enjoyed this restaurant in the past but will not be back for Brunch.
I’ve come to Due South several times and I’ve always had a good experience. My last visit was decent but not exceptional. The food and drinks were great per usual; however the service was lacking. We had to flag other waiters/waitresses for basic stuff like napkins and straws. We received one refill of our water. A few more visits to the table would’ve been great. It looked like our waiter was training someone, so maybe that was the issue...not sure, but do better.
I loved the atmosphere and decor of the restuarant. The service was very good, seated quickly and attentive wait staff. The squash puppies were delicious! Loved the buttermilk fried chicken and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the bbq platter that he split with his friend. Ample amounts of food and great flavour! The peanut butter pie was a great finish split between the 4 of us. Walking along the river front after dinner was a nice bonus at the end of a great meal.
I was really excited to finally eat at Due South but was sadly disappointed by the food and service. The biscuits were actually terrific but the pork benedict I ordered mainly consisted of pork fat and VERY little meat. My Bloody Mary was so spicy that I couldn't even finish it-and I like spicy! Our server (Henry) also neglected us nearly the entire time and never came back after we received our food until we were finished. He might have been new to the industry as he didn't handle the amount of tables as he should have and kept going back and forth instead of handling multiple tables at a time. Unfortunately I will not be coming back here for the food or service. Maybe just a froze at the bar!
My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday for brunch before the Nationals game. We made a reservation for 11, which was as early as we could so that we could sit outside since the weather was extremely great for summer. I loved where we sat, at a two person table right in front of the door where the waiter came out (we were right in sight to get out bottomless mimosas refilled before we could even finish our glasses) and then we had greenery on the other side. We got the sausage gravy biscuit appetizer. We just moved up here from Texas, so we were a little skeptical about how good this would be but WOW. The gravy wasn't thick like we were used to but the flavor was great. Then I got the pulled pork Benedict (AMAZING) & my boyfriend got the hot chicken biscuits and gravy. Mine was better but both were great. All of the food in that area for brunch has a similar price tag, so if you're going to pay the money anywhere... come here for the flavor and great service.
We loved the fried green tomatoes, but unfortunately the ribs and shrimp and grits were not good. The service was subpar as well as our server rarely came around to our table and failed to notice that we didn’t eat our food. We have had good experiences here for brunch but dinner just didn’t work for us.
They need to work on pacing the food. Took a while to get the starter then all of a sudden the entry's showed up whether we liked it or not. Had to send them back to wait.
We arrived on time, were seated in a semi enclosed area which might have made it a tad quieter than the bigger dining room. Two had the cheeseburger which they liked, but received a pathetic amount of fries which were not the “Cajun” fries they requested. Oh, and our first appetizer choice-they were out of. My Mac and cheese was tasty, but the bbq shrimp left a lot to be desired. Also, surprised that I received a “ no show” email from Open table the next day. Won’t be back.
We went for a birthday brunch on a Saturday - had a group of 7. I love the atmosphere/location and it was a great deal for a bottomless brunch. Cons: the server was a little rough, the mimosas are “pre-mixed” aka 2/3 orange juice so you tire of them quickly, the food is very greasy and just ok.
Great location and attentive staff, but I suggest you go with a meat and sides. I got the trout and it was extremely bland.
The drinks and appetizers were great. The entrees were average: great ambience and service.
Had brunch here. Food was decent, but nothing special. Place has a good vibe/energy.
The food and atmosphere was good. Our server Henry was great making the whole experience, the total package.
Overpriced for quality and quantity. Restaurant constantly under seats it’s tables and turns walk ins away for hours.
Hostess was very rude and unaccommodating even with a reservation. Food was great as usual and waiter helpful and attentive.
Went to Due South for a going away gathering for a friend. First, thank God for valet parking ($12)!! We were seated outside on a beautiful evening. Although the place was busy for a Thursday evening, our waiter was very prompt and took our order and then let us reminisce, delivering our drinks in the meantime. Good whiskey selection, the local IPA was apparently good as my friend chugged it down. Dinner then arrived - two of us had the brisket which was delicious. I had the cole slaw side and the jalepeno grits, both good additions. Our departing friend had the chicken which looked good and apparently he ate most of, taking the rest home. The young lady with us had the Salmon and claimed to be full, an indication that it was really good. The best part is this place is right near Nats Park and as a season ticketholder, I now have a new place for dinner before or after the game. Excellent time and excellent meal!
Due South has a great open air, high ceiling, industrial vibe. Good bourbon and BBQ but also yummy, fresh artisanal salads. This is a great spot for an after work drink, dinner with a friend or date night. Friendly staff, never overcrowded, great view and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
Our first vist to Due South was this past Sunday for a pre-baseball game dinner. First time for everyone. Greeting upon arrival, service, beer, food - all terrific! I was in charge of finding a dinner place for the evening, I found Due South - now I'm a hero! Thank you Due South! We will be back!
The restaurant is in a great location but the menu and food need some upgrades. The Shrimp and Grits had to many other things in it besides Shrimp and Grits and the taste was just average. The Chicken and Waffles left a lot to be desired. It looked amazing but the fried chicken breast didn't have any flavor and the waffle was burnt. Over all I'm not sure I would go back. The waiter was nice and very friendly.
Always like dining at Due South. The food was great and the service is always wonderful. Always recommend to friends.
The “smoked brisket” wasn’t smoked, no smoke ring on the meat.
Conveniently located to the Washington Nationals stadium.
Took my husband for Father’s Day and had my 8 year old son with me. There was something for each of us that made the experience amazing. The shrimp and grits are to die for - the brisket will leave a barbecue king speechless and even the kids burgers left my son raving to come back. Dessert was just as amazing to this picky bread pudding expert. The server Sean was spot on in every way. Definitely will return!
Went to Due South for Father's Day brunch and everything was great. We were especially impressed with how nice the service was, despite having a toddler running around. The food was fantastic and the ambiance so relaxing. We will certainly be back, and thanks again to the great servers and hosts that day!
As always I had a great time at Due South. Despite the wait for someone to clean up a spill under the table, the food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Aaliyah, our waitress, kept my father entertained with her great conversation and service. I will definitely come back again in the near future.
I LOVE Due South. They are my go-to when my husband and I have a free night without kids. My dad was in town this weekend for Father's Day so we took him. Our party of 10 were all so happy with the wonderful food, drinks and service. I was a little nervous about bringing kids, because I have always done date night there, but was relieved to find that they did have a Kids Menu. Everyone was really happy!
Good southern menu and a nice place for lunch near the navy yard.
The Buttermilk Fried Chicken was very tasty, had just the right crisp, and moist, not dry.
Platter was was great for two and delicious. I wish the dessert menu had more exciting Southern options. Modern decor, great pours on the bourbon, frozen slushee cocktails, and damn good collard greens. Overall, a great place to get your comfort food fill.
I went for brunch with a group of 8. The place was hopping so it took a few minutes to be seated, but once we were seated, the service was great and fast. The server also split the bill into 8 separate checks for us, which was greatly appreciated. The portions are huge and it is a good value for the money. Everyone was happy with their food. PRetty location right on the waterfront. We will be going back. I definitely recommend it for a group event since they take large party reservations and provided really good service in spite of our party size.
Everything about Due South was good but not great. The food was good and well cooked but all too sweet and not spicy enough particularly the Brussels sprouts and the greens. We found a piece of plastic wrap in our pulled pork for which the waiter had no reaction and did not offer any remuneration. Nice looking restaurant but there is better food for better prices elsewhere in DC.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday at Due South. The food was what I expected, good Southern food. The fried chicken was delicious and so was the Cole slaw. The mashed potatoes were not memorable. My husband said his brisket was tasty but dry. He liked his Cole slaw and cornbread. We were too full to eat dessert, but they had great choices.
The restaurant is also a neighborhood bar. It was noisy.
I thought the decor was industrial.
Even though I said there was a birthday on the reservation, no attention was given to it.
I felt like nothing made it a special night. Even though other tables were empty, we were seated up against another couple and could hear each other’s conversations.
The food is good, but the atmosphere is so so.
Great food and great atmosphere
We had 4 adults and 3 small children. While it's not a particularly kid friendly restaurant, the wait staff were fantastic coping with our needs. Kudos to the service. Food also excellent.
Even though we were early and plenty of tables available our group was seated in a small room with 6 or so tables and with limited view and it appeared that those tables in this small area were being sat first. Again an entire restaurant with a view while we were sequestered into a small room. The service was what you’d expect. Nothing extraordinary- good or bad.
A friend had recommended Due South, and he is still a friend. The food was excellent, with tasty, well-sized portions. The menu was varied, while remaining true to the southern theme. The main dining room was a bit noisy, but the room in the back was quiet enough to catch up with friends. The service was attentive without being overbearing.
The food was very good and the service was great! Although on the pricey side, I would recommend to others.
Awesome place, great drinks, food, and service.
