Took my friend here to celebrate her birthday, mentioned this when making the reservation, however, the restaurant didn't acknowledge this, somewhat disappointing.
Excellent drinks. Friendly, attentive staff. Delicious , quality homemade Italian cuisine! Will definitely be back :-)
Our third visit. Each one delicious. Can't wait for good weather to sit in their garden
Delicious as always! So nice to walk in and be remembered and treated like family!
ALWAYS PERFECT...owner, massimo, is a great guy...food is innovative and superb...wonderful atmosphere and service
Fantastic food and hospitality...you always feel like you are part of the family. Excellent wine list; authentic cuisine.
Due Lire was wonderful! Definite recommend. Food was incredible and service was amazing. We will go back again soon!
We had a wonderful dinner at Due Lire. We know a lot about Italian cooking, and this was the real deal - excellent ingredients, authentically prepared. The service was good, if a little over-attentive. The waiter made good wine suggestions. We had a great time and look forward to coming back.
We went to Due Lire for Valentine's and it was great! We live in the neighborhood and had walked by a million times so we finally made a reservation and were so happy with our choice.
I had the fish special. Best fish I have had in a long time. I work in Florida and live in Chicago. So, I have access to a lot of seafood. After that meal, I probably won't even try fish in Florida.
Outstanding place for a great dinner before a show at the Old Town School. Always superb service and food.
We made the reservations 4 days in advance. Received a call make sure that we are coming that evening. The food and the service was excellent. They were was packed. Would definitely go back.
Most dishes were too oily, even greasy. Pompous server knew nothing about the wines he was trying to push and was difficult to get attention with.
Always one of my favorites
My husband and I dined here to try something a little different on a weeknight. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We were literally the only ones in the restaurant on a Tuesday evening and couldn't believe it because everything was great! We shared the evening's appetizer special (burrata and beets) and each had a pasta dish. I highly recommend the tortelloni! Also the wines by the glass were very good and our server was helpful with recommendations & offering to give us a taste. Will definitely go back!
My last dining experience at Due Lire was disappointing from a food and value standpoint. The service is amazing and the ambience is nice (despite the fact that the layout is really just a rectangle). The drink and wine prices are standard but the food portions are EXTREMELY small for the price. After spending $128 for two people including tip, I was still very hungry when we left. The "Fresco" Italian bread was delicious but the short rib ravioli was a few bites of tiny thin ravioli that was mostly sauce and had the consistency of mush. Way over-rated, particularly for a whopping $19. Our server was fantastic but I wish she had been more honest about the ravioli. For tiny tapas portions, there should be tapas-style prices, not $19-25 prices for miniscule amounts of food. I like the restaurant a lot but haven't figured out how to have a tasty, filling meal there without spending a fortune.
Cute charming and intimate. We were all happy with our meals and the service was impeccable. The entrees are done with care, but are on smaller side so I'd recommend getting an app. Nice cocktails and wine list. We went on a double date and had the loveliest time.
This place is amazing. The food is delicious. In the summer, their outdoor patio is the best hidden secret in Chicago.
Due Lire has been my go to for authentic Italian cuisine for the last several years. I am so thankful that I stumbled across this neighborhood gem! The owner is almost always there and is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. The food is always delicious. If you aren't in the mood for wine, their cocktails are amazing. In the summer, the outdoor patio is very cute and cozy. The waitstaff have always been top notch. And you get all of this with extremely reasonable pricing. By far my favorite Italian food in the city!
My wife and I discovered Due Lire a couple of years ago, and we've been coming back ever since. We don't dine here as often as we'd like since we moved out of the neighborhood, but we are often back on special occasions (birthdays, New Year's Eve, etc). The ambiance is cozy and quiet, perfect for a table for two or four. We've sampled everything on the menu, and there is nothing that isn't perfect. They have an oxtail ragu that is to die for, and my wife (formerly a vegetarian) loves any pasta dish with their short rib. The pastas are all homemade and have that just firm texture that makes homemade pastas perfect. And when I'm not in the mood for pasta, their secondi dishes are wonderful as well. On NYE recently, I had their seared duck dish with a butternut squash puree. I don't know that I've ever had duck prepared this perfectly. It just melted in each bite. They have a lot of Tuscan DOC wines available, which makes for an authentic Italian dinner. Try ANYTHING on the menu. You will LOVE IT!
Due Lire is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. Everything is top notch. My only complaint is the noise level. It was completely packed and a bit hard to hear our dinner partners.
Great food, excellent service. Definitely would recommend.
Great service and great food at a totally down to earth boutique operation — almost feel like I’m in Italy!
Mediocre food - small portions - cramped when the dining room is full. I would much rather go to Bistro Campagne next door or one of the many other dining options in Lincoln square
everything about this place is right. Great place to accompany shows at The Old Town School of Folk Music.
Favorite lincoln square restaurant. Authentic Italian food. Neighborhood restairant but special.
What an awesome place. Always so good. The wine list is amazing. The food is excellent. Great spot.
Due Lire is an outstanding restaurant. The menu could be read as mostly common Italian dishes but when you read the descriptions you realize the care that goes into the ingredients. The execution is amazing. I had a simple arugula salad that looked like it had no dressing on it at all, but you could taste the brightness of the vinaigrette in every bite. The short rib ravioli was delicious. I would highly recommend Due Lire
Amazing food with great service! I have never tried a dish I did not love!
We have enjoyed eating here before concerts at the Old Town School right down the street. My recent visit was a bit of a disappointment. The cavetelli--a staple in Chicago Italian restaurants--was a meager portion that looked like a bowl of reddish oatmeal. Hardly a nice presentation and mediocre in volume and quality. I am not a proponent of devouring or needing large portions, but I also recognize what's deserved for the money spent in nice Italian establishments. The others in my party seemed to enjoy their salmon and risotto , but I would steer clear of the pastas--or at least try and catch a glimpse of them as they pass by before ordering. Restaurant is nice, cozy and festive otherwise.
My husband and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time. It was easy to get a reservation through OpenTable. The restaurant is small but the host and the staff are very welcoming. It has a very nice cozy ambience. I tried one of the specialty Italian cocktails which was delicious and then we ordered a bottle of wine and were pleased to find out that Wednesday evening's special is half price bottles of wine! We shared a lovely Fresco bruschetta, and my husband had a seafood risotto for his entree which was delicious. I had the miale, or pork loin. The flavors were absolutely delicious and the presentation was beautiful, however I felt the pork was a little over done for my liking. It was still moist though. We split some sort of pistachio yumminess for dessert. Our waiter was fabulous, and our table was never lacking for water, utensils or a clear area, meaning that plates were removed quickly after we were finished eating - the staff is really on it. We felt the portions were generous and the food was reasonably priced. We will definitely go back again.
This place was awesome! The food is reasonably priced and delicious. A very European dining experience, don’t expect your waiter to be interrupting you every 10 minutes, but you should go here and I promise you will have a great time.
Great neighborhood restaurant. The Quality and Value are both outstanding. Italian restaurant that does not serve bread!!!!! What??????? Feels it interferes with the flavors and disturbs the pallet. Love it!!! Great care in presentation. Small, intimate............more like what you would find in Europe or side streets in Manhattan. A winner!!! This is a place that watches every plate that comes out of the kitchen.
The restaurant was packed and the noise level was too much. We couldn’t hear each other well at the table. It was so nice and quiet when we were here a few months ago and ate on the outdoor patio.
Some of the food was spotty this time as well (one dish was too salty). They were very gracious about it.
I’ll give them another try on a week night or when the weather is nice enough to eat outside again.
Location is great, but it's really loud, service is slow (though very friendly), the tables are too close together, and the food is average.
Our dinner at Due Lire was absolutely delightful in every way. The food was authentically prepared, the service excellent, and the ambiance was cozy.
This place defines the term "neighborhood gem" Everything is hand made and authentic. The place is very small (maybe 15 tables) and everyone gets individual attention. The staff is friendly knowledgeable and patient. Because everything is hand made, it sometimes takes a little longer than normal to get your food, but it is well worth the wait. If you want quick, frozen and out of a box, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! If you want food like grandma used to make, with care, love and fresh ingredients, then this is the place for you. Best new food experience I have had in a long time.
Very charming and cozy (if the weather holds, I recommend the back patio). Incredibly gracious service by Katia, and wonderful wine (Barbera) with the salumi formaggi platter of meats cheeses and jams over toasted bread - just enough for the four of us to share. Our friends enjoyed the lamb chops and the short rib ravioli with porcini mushrooms, and we loved the maiale (wonderfully tender pork with radicchio gorgonzola risotto) and the tortelloni with brown butter sage sauce and almonds. Finished with a beautiful flan. Could not have been better!
While everything was first rate, a special shout-out to our server who translated some of the chef's descriptions into English. He also customized some of the dishes for our allergies and food preferences.
The food was fabulous and our waiter was very knowledgeable of the ingredients in the dishes which was helpful to the person with food allergies!
