Dudley's on Short Ratings and Reviews
I came to Dudley's for brunch. I like to think of Dudley's as the best brunch experience in Lexington- from their rotating quiche to a "build your own" bloody mary with house-infused pepper vodka as an option. However, it fell short yesterday. Server was slow to take our order, drinks were slow to come out. The bloody mary was completely botched. I ordered the BM with the pepper vodka and it was way too hot! Like you can't anything for the next 10 minutes hot. The server said she would "fix it" and brought me back a BM with regular vodka 15 minutes later, yet still charged me for the pepper vodka. Conversation with the server was just awkward. The whole experience was awkward. Luckily, the quiche was excellent and so was our smoked salmon "pie".
Although the ambiance and service were as great as always, the quality of the entrees was lacking. On of the beef filet medallions was okay, and the other overdone; upon redoing the overdone steak, the 2nd attempt came back severely rare. The chicken in the pasta was dry and the taste fairly uninspiring. However, the cocktails were quite good, the wine superb and dessert was delicious.
Dudley's never disappoints. I made reservations near the fireplace and the table was waiting for us when we arrived. Our waiter, Brad, was attentive without being intrusive. He gave us good recommendations and his service was impeccable. From the wine to our entrees ( short ribs, duck) to the complementary dessert to celebrate our anniversary, it was a terrific and delicious evening. Can't wait to go again!
Had another great lunch at Dudley's on Short. I had a special request that was honored without question. The hostess was extremely helpful and the wait staff was attentive. I had the Kale Salad and my guest ordered the omelette special of the day. Both of us enjoyed our meals. I'd like to come back for dinner the next time I'm in Lexington.
Dined at Dudley's after Keeneland's closing day. Our server, Brad, was fantastic. Just the right amount of attention and information. We chose to stay on the menu and not partake in the specials and were very pleased with our selections. The smoked trout eggs are not to be missed. The duck and spare ribs were outstanding. I enjoyed the soup, but would have preferred it been warmer (I was informed that the liquid is hot but the rest is served at room temp so I was not surprised). All in all, another delightful evening at Dudley's. Looking forward to being back in the spring.
Overall, this is probably one of the more negative dining experiences I've had in awhile. The food was just OK (soup came out cold, scallops weren't all the way cooked, Cheese board was ehhhh). The best thing we had was dessert. The servers are running around frantic trying to deal with the crowds and our server couldn't keep up. The ambience was a cool vibe, and I really wanted to like this place. Just didn't measure up. Would not go again.
One of our all time favorite dining experiences! Brad, our server, was amazing! He was attentive, winsome, very knowledgeable, and so accommodating. My husband and I wanted to try several dishes so we shared, and Brad couldn't not have been more gracious. The food was over the top. Don't miss this Lexington gem! I can certainly see why it was voted the top restaurant in the state!
Four friends in Lexington for the Keeneland Racecourse October races had an excellent dinner here. Had the short ribs and daily special. Excellent. Very good service. Only compliant is that the bourbons on the rocks we ordered were very small pours, especially for the price.
The food was quite good, particularly the tuna and the hot brown appetizer. Our server I believe may have been newer to the staff as less well versed various dishes' details. He also seem to not read our vibe of being in no rush. A Sunday night reservation to me would not indicate a need to hurry (with no crowd awaiting the table or show to attend etc.) Again, he may not be as experienced as some others on the staff just yet.
The one quirk I find odd in a restaurant of this price point was that the beers we ordered were in aluminum cans not glass bottles. Maybe I am missing something with this concept, but beer from glass container always tastes better than from a can. At this price level, i just expected glass bottles. Otherwise, the meal was delicious and the time spent well enjoyed.
The seating was awful for a dinner date. We were placed directly between two other couples leaving exactly zero privacy for conversation. The service was excellent and our server was more than accommodating. I only wish the rest of Dudley’s had the same standard. My dish was fine. Nothing special as far as a steak goes. My wife’s lamb was served over the most disgusting mixture of what looked to be gray baby food. I don’t want to give baby food such a bad name. I’m sure Gerber could mix together something more appetizing. Totally overpriced. Save your money.
