Surprisingly average.

We had a very disappointing experience on a very important business dinner. Service was outstanding. The food for all 5 guests was very disappointing. We took our guests to another restaurant for drinks and snacks after dinner at Driskill Grill. We won't return.

Husband’s fish was a little undercooked, daughters steak was over cooked, and my chicken thighs were well cooked, but chicken breast was unbelievably over cooked and tough for the price we paid for the meal. Come on!

Cuisine was wonderful. Service was a little slow and inattentive .

Service slow, steaks over cooked, ambience very nice. We had a nice dessert free because of our anniversary night.

Great food. (Ditch the marbled potatoes though) Love the historic landmark and history. This restaurant is upper end in price, therefore you never expect a dry water glass, and when you ask about desserts you expect a menu.
This was a birthday dinner, so they have some automatics that are wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable, polite, and on point, however he was sat a party of 10 right after us, in addition to other tables. Not conducive to much attentive pampering.
No drink, no menu, no return visit!

The Driskill Grill has very heavy, masculine decor. It's like stepping back in time as you enter the hotel and head toward the Grill. Walking through the bar toward the restaurant is a fair hike and once at the entrance, I was surprised that the Grill itself seemed tiny compared to the bar area.
It took longer than usual for a waiter to approach our table which was surprising because we were seated just as it opened. I expected the staff to be up and running but it wasn't. Beverages from the bar were well prepared and reasonably priced. The food items on the menu were limited but offered a wide enough range of choices. The soup was outstanding as was the Caesar Salad. Fresh ingredients and creative plating made the first course delightful. Steak and salmon were chosen for the main and both were prepared very nicely. Unimaginative desserts didn't inspire us to order, but there were several decent options.
Pricing was as expected and service was slow but acceptable. I was surprised that when we asked the Hostess about ghost sightings, she seemed unprepared. Later however, the waiter provided us with printouts of the ghostly history of the Driskill which was one of the main reasons why we chose the restaurant for out gathering.
It's a perfect choice for those who love the historical side of Austin, and for those interested in a very adequate dining experience.

What a wonderful place to celebrate anything including just life itself. The food was delicious, the wine selection is refined and the service, particularly from Roy who is also a sommelier, was far superior to most Michelin-Rated restaurants. Highly recommended!

Food was better last time I was there. Service was excellent. Best place for a good meal that I know of being on 6th street

The Driskill Grill is the complete package, from the old Texas charm to the generous portions of delectable dishes. A great venue to show off our great State.

We had a wonderful evening of great food and wine in a peaceful setting conducive to great conversation. Haven’t been to The Driskill in years and plan to return.

Valentines day

We go out for our anniversary every year and always try to go somewhere different. This was our big 10 and the Driskill did us right! The menu said “happy anniversary” on it and the waiter brought out champagne and said “I heard it’s your anniversary, I hope you don’t mind some bubbles.” We were so pleased- what a fun surprise! The food was phenomenal- we ordered the salmon charcuterie and filets mignon. Then they surprised us once again with a chocolate cake that had “Happy Anniversary” drizzled in chocolate syrup on the plate. They outdid themselves! After this dinner compared to all the others we’ve had, we might stop trying new places and make the Driskill our new anniversary tradition.

excellent service, the wood and glass work is beautiful and that is before you have a great meal. It was even cheaper than several of the other restaurants downtown.

Beautiful historic building drew us in for the experience, but the food and wine we're underwhelming for the price level. There are many better meals and drinks in the area in the same 30-50 dollar plate price range. Website is not up to date with the menu, and the cafe in the front is indeed open for dinner.

Filet and sea bass were amazing, as was the dessert. The waitress was friendly and prompt.

The food tasted really bad. It was the worst food that I tried in Texas. All the dishes came to the table cold and with no taste at all. We went there during News Year dinner and me and my family could not finish any dish. The dessert was the worst of all. We were really disappointed to pay that much for a food that was not good at all.

Prix fixé NYE meal with my family of 6. It was at best a decent hotel meal. In a city like Austin with amazing dining choices, this felt like dining in a Holiday Inn, not the famous Driskill Hotel. Food was cooked to order but was nothing special nor imaginative. We dine out much more than average. The bar outside the steakhouse was however much better than average and wine chosen for the pairings with coursed meal was all EXCELLENT. Go for drinks or a solid business dinner and don't expect anything exciting and you'll be fine.

We wanted our friends to have a great meal with great service and experience “old Texas/Austin” feel. The Driskill has all the great Texas feel with Hugh ceilings and marble paired with hides and leather, but also an intimate upscale dinner options just steps away from a vibrant bar scene. This was the perfect combination for our evening.

Went for dinner with my wife and three daughters while visiting in Austin. All of our meals were delicious and beautifully presented. From the soup and mussels through the steak, lamb and catch of the day (super flaky halibut) to the sorbet and gelato the meal was excellent. The service was also attentive without being obtrusive. All in all a great evening and then to have it confirmed that the restaurant was in a scene of 'Miss Congeniality' sealed the deal for my daughters (and my wife and I too).

The service and quality of the food was amazing as always..but for some reason the day before new years eve and they were out of 3 bottles of wine listed on their menu? Not to mention that I noticed the same thing in the bar earlier? Not sure why this was but it caught me as awkward.

Fairly underwhelming. The whole place is dripping with history and has a great interior. The staff unfortunately look like they're working in an iHop which, after $140 per person for the food is less than expected. Your enjoyment here will depend on your perspective and expectations. Do you enjoy the "high class" experience regularly? Have you eaten around the world? if so expect a lacklustre dining experience. If you're used to BBQ and salt of the earth restaurants then you'll love it here.

My wife and I wanted to have a meal at a fancy, romantic, and quiet restaurant. This place was fantastic. The service was top notch and the food was incredible. We had the five course meal with the wine pairings. The staff did an incredible job. There was a group of coworkers being a bit noisy and the staff did their very best to muffle the noise that the group was making.

If you are looking for a marvelous place for a romantic dinner with your spouse or significant other look no further. This is it! It’s worth every penny!

We did the 5 course tasting menu with the Wine Pairing. Fantastic. When we got to the Filet Mignon the waiter asked what type of red wine we liked by asking each of us, individually, various questions. He nailed it. He brought my wife one type and me another. Hit it out of the ballpark.

The food was fantastic. The wines were all very nice. Very creative and delicious. Some courses I would actually call rich. Lots of tastes. The pace between courses was good. Not too fast, and certainly not slow. But the waiter offered to slow it down (without us saying a word about it to him). We declined. The pace was good for us. Walked away satisfied but not too full. And just the right amount of drink as well. Highly recommend it.

The meal and most of the service was excellent. Our only complaint was we were there for a 70th birthday meal and although the concierge generously offered to have a special menu created for the birthday girl with her name on it this was not followed through with by the hostess and was a bit disappointing. When we asked the hostess about the special menu she said she had gotten the note but was too busy to follow through.Other than that the evening was exceptional in every way!

Been in Austin for 4 years and just tried the Driscoll. Now regret not haven gone before. Absolutely delightful evening. Great bar scene, quiet and romantic dining area. Best part, great food. Highly recommend, but must mention pricey. Wine mark ups are high and drive the tab up.

Rack of Lamb was outstanding. We usually enjoy the Driskill ambiance, but the large party in the middle of the dining room included a screaming & hollering 2 year old. Not much anyone could do about it. After an hour of ruining every diner's quiet evening, Mom finally took him out.
But he shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Enjoyed a 40th anniversary dinner at the Driskill Grill while we were guest and enjoyed our special glass of champagne , wonderful meal and special anniversary dessert.
We dined early so the restaurant was very quiet and our server was very attentive.
the choices on the menu are based on fresh and local and we really appreciate that .
Our dishes were wonderfully prepared, right temperature and served with a nice presentation.
This restaurant is another great part of having the experience of a stay at The Driskill Hotel.

The hotel itself is worth the visit, but the restaurant is very good. I️t is loud with many “groups “, so I wouldn’t go for a date.

We ordered the steak tar tar, and loved it! The soup was just okay. We ordered the wagyu steak. I've had way better tasting steaks for much less. At $165 it should have been more tender and should have been mouth watering. I would say save your money. We only saw the waiter 3 or 4 times. Our finished plates sat on our table too long. Service was mediocre at best.

Overall, we had a nice evening. Our waiter was also tending to a large table so our needs were somewhat dependent on others we could flag down (pepper for salads, water refills, etc.). For the price, attention should have been... well, more attentive. Also, as this was a special occasion (my husband’s birthday which I noted on our Open Table reservation but was never acknowledged by the restaurant so I’m not sure they paid any attention), I ordered two glasses of champagne. I had not looked at the wine list so I found out when the bill was delivered that the waiter had served us the most expensive glass available - almost equivalent to the price of our filet mignon entree. I would have appreciated having been made aware of the options upon ordering. This left me with a very sour taste in my mouth after a nice meal.

The Wedge Salad, filet, and mashed sweet potatoes were very good although the roasted vegetables left a bit to be desired - rather flavorless.

Overall, a nice evening but I’m still steamed about the champagne charge.
