Absolutely terrible deserts and the portion size was comical! A tiny speck of a torte for your cheesecake? You have to be kidding me! Terrible, terrible, terrible.
Delightful experience during Restaurant Week. The food was of the highest quality and the staff very friendly and hospitable. (You wonder when there are such special events with a fixed price menu if staff might be less enthused, anticipating receipt of smaller service charges, but they were all wonderful!) . And it's one of the seemingly last few restaurants in Austin where you can have a conversation without the din of all hard services - even with the very lively bar, where we had pre-dinner happy hour drinks (another great value!), right outside. Highly recommend it for special evenings out!
Great experience and delicious food!
I had actually been here twice before and the service was outstanding each time but this time the service was pretty bad. Not that the waiter was rude or anything but my friend and I were mostly forgotten. I had to flag down the waiter a couple times, once to ask if we could place our order (after waiting to order for 10 or 15 minutes) and the other time to ask for a water refill for my friend and I. The waiter did apologize and explained they were very busy but... There were, at best, 12 other tables and 2 waiters total. I think our table was slightly out of the way near the wall closest to the street so that may have contributed to it. The food was great though, I always appreciate their interesting flavor combinations!
Cat did a wonderful job and made our special day a real joy.
I love the Driskill’s atmosphere in the bar and the grill. We were there during restaurant week. The pork medallions and the smoked short ribs were outstanding. The chocolate cake is heavenly. Our server was very busy but as attentive as she could be. A very nice restaurant for a special occasion.
The waiter we had was exceptional.
Short ribs were delicious.
This is our anniversary dinner to my proposal dinner last year; we are looking forward to keep our tradition alive next year and something new!
We went for restaurant week and the food was mediocre at best. Way overpriced for what we had. I love the Driskill bar and 1886 cafe, but will not be returning to the restaurant. Both the service and our meals were disappointing
The food and the drinks took for ever to come to our table. The food is too expensive for what it is. Waiter was overwhelmed to serve all the tables she had to (she was nice though, not her fault). Really unimpressed. We will definitely not come back.
There were not enough servers on the night we went to accommodate the dining room. We waited very long periods of time in between our orders and when being served.
Venue was excellent. The occasion was spoilt, however, by slow service (waitresses very busy) and a very poor hamburger.
Sorry to say but this go to dining establishment has fallen in its quality and delivery.
Food was great. Service was great.
Great to try just once for the Austin vibe. I liked the atmosphere but wouldn’t have a need to eat here again.
Greetings Candace and thank you for visiting The Driskill Grill. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your experience and the atmosphere and hope you will return again soon as we change our menus seasonally. Cheers!
Service & Ambiance was great, but sadly food not so great.
Nice historic ambience, but service was a little slow and food was just okay for the price you pay.
Everything was fabulous! Crab cake appetizer is served chilled and was excellent. Nice wine list and my filet with mushrooms and creamed spinach was amazing. Lovely ambiance.
Food was delicious including the scrumptious chocolate cake!
We're honored to have helped you celebrate your birthday and that you loved our 1886 Chocolate Cake! We look forward to welcoming you back again.
Food was great! Everyone was so friendly!
We delighted you felt our Texas-friendly hospitality! We look forward to seeing back again soon.
Elegant atmosphere in a restored historic setting. Charming and knowledgeable staff. Creative menu and impressive choices for wine and cocktails.
Thank you for choosing The Driskill Grill and for your wonderful review. We love that you appreciated the setting and storied past of the property, as well as the menu choices. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Had scallops with white grits and medium rare filet mignon, both cooked and seasoned exactly right. Waiter was attentive but not overly intrusive. Very nice dinner. Highly recommend.
Food took a very long time and was cold when it got to us.
This was a birthday dinner for my girlfriend, and everyone made the night incredibly special. Thank you.
Delicious food and great service by Kevin and Roy made for a lovely evening. Highly recommend.
Really disappointed. Food was ok, but did not meet our expectation of something a bit more special
My review is based on the brunch buffet. For the amount of money per person, I would expect much better quality and variety of food. Nothing I ate was that great, and the price just did not reflect that at all. The service was great, but we won’t be back next time.
Hello Nicole and thank you for choosing to spend this special occasion at The Driskill. We greatly appreciate your candid feedback and assure you it has been shared with our management and culinary teams for consideration of our next holiday menus. We strive to make these times memorable for our guests and we thank you for the opportunity to improve.
Food and atmosphere was great as always but the service was extremely slow. I had to drinks in 2 hours and the drinks were horrible. I had one sent back. It was a simple whiskey Sour. Not sure what was going on.
Hello Brian and thank you for the recommendation as well as the feedback regarding your cocktail service. We have shared this with the staff to improve wait time, as well as more detailed communication of our cocktails. We hope to welcome you back for another romantic evening, with improved attentiveness and specialty cocktails.
This used to be a 4 to 5 star restaurant. Now it is just a hotel restaurant. They remodeled and took away all of the ambiance and class and replaced the white table cloth tables with bench seating and plain tops. The only thing that is the same is the high prices. I have previously been to this restaurant 6-8 times and it was one of the finer restaurants downtown. Not anymore... I will NOT be back.
Greetings Charles and we thank you for your time to review your recent experience. Thank you for taking note of the changes we have made in the restaurant, however, we apologize you have felt these changes had a negative effect on your experience. We are continuously looking for ways to improve the guest experience, and I assure you your feedback has been shared with our management staff for consideration of future updates.
Kevin is excellent and added an unexpected thoughtful touch to our dinner. Our service was outstanding and I’m still thinking about the Brussels sprouts, total perfection.
Greetings and thank you for your recommendation! We are delighted you loved the live music in the bar, the delicious food, our menu of specialty cocktails and the overall ambiance. We have been sure to share your kind words with Kevin, and we all look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Great space. Lights were brighter than I would have liked for most of our meal, then lowered about the time we left. Food was great. Service also great. It was a little loud, and it's a typical old school steak house price wise. If you think a $45 steak should come with sides, this isn't you kind of place.
Greetings Josh and thank you for dining with us at The Driskill Grill. We greatly appreciate your recommendation for both the food and service. Thank you for your feedback regarding the noise level and lighting. This has been shared with our management staff for improvements to our overall guest experience. We look forward to welcoming you back again.
First, the hotel itself as such an amazing classic landmark. The grill inside is lively with great food and amazing service. You definitely know you're getting a very welcoming experience with perfect attention.
We started with the cheese and charcuterie board, which had the perfect mix of a wonderful selection. We also tried the scallops and the wagyu, both of which were absolutely amazing!
While the after dinner drink selection is not broad, it has everything you need. Over all, we had an amazing experience for which I would go back again.
Always excellent. Top notch service. Easy in and out with valet service.
I've done the Driskill Grill for Easter many times. I remember back when it used to be unlimited champagne as part of the brunch. I understand why they got rid of it, and that was okay because I used to have to hunt them down to get my glass refilled.
However, this year, while the food at the buffet was amazing, we found we still had to hunt them down to get anything. Our plates would not be removed for a while, and they would pile up on the table. When they did remove them, and took the silverware, we wouldn't be given new silverware until we found someone to ask (or ultimately even took some from an unsat table). We also had to keep scrounging for someone to bring us more drinks, although when we did order a bottle of champagne, that appeared relatively quickly. However, we were majorly disappointed to see an added mandatory 20% gratuity on our bill after such poor service, and then the waitress did her accounting wrong not once, but twice, and severely overcharged two of us. It took 30 minutes to actually get the bill settled, after we hunted her down once again to get the bill.
I have no problems paying for an amazing brunch, but I have problems paying for an amazing brunch with really bad service. I have an even bigger problem paying a mandatory gratuity for really bad service at a brunch that was highly priced to being with.
Greetings Jack. We greatly appreciate you choosing to spend Easter at The Driskill, and for your continued patronage over the years. While we are delighted you felt the buffet food was amazing and that your champagne was delivered promptly, we regret missing the mark on service in order to make your entire experience exceptional. We have taken your feedback to heart and are promptly addressing this with our team to ensure future holiday celebrations are up to the high standards we strive for.
Easter brunch at the Driskell ain't what it used to be. For years, it was an upscale celebration: grand rooms, ice sculptures, overflowing tables of food. Now, it's a sad shadow of what once was the Driskill Easter Brunch at the same price! At $98 per person, it felt like a swindle.
Thank you David for taking the time to review your dining experience with us. We appreciate your candid feedback, as we continue to evaluate and look to improve our special events; from our more intimate and family-focused brunches in The Driskill Grill, to our larger Thanksgiving brunch on the Mezzanine. We are honored you chose to spend your holiday at The Driskill and thank you for giving us the opportunity to improve in the future.
I chose this restaurant for my husbands birthday. When we arrived we one of the few tables in there and was put in the corner for privacy. Our server was efficient and gave us ample time to decide on the menu. We started off the beef tartar really good especially if you like balsamic, we both got the ribeye one prime and one dry aged. For the price of the dry aged ribeye, I really didn't taste any difference flavor. They were both cooked perfectly and very tender (we cut them with butter knives), we ate them with the brussel sprouts and had the chocolate cake for dessert. Our server made great wine selections for us and my only complaint was about half way through our meal a large table of drunk middle-aged women came in and sat down near and were so obnoxious we could barely hear our selves talk.
Greetings Kim and thank you for choosing to celebrate your special occasion at The Driskill Grill. We appreciate the wonderful review of your dining experience, from the perfectly cooked steaks, to the great wine selections from your server. We do apologize for the noise from the other table and hope to welcome you back soon for an even better experience and enjoyable surrounding.
My wife and I got engaged at the Driskill Grill over 7 years ago and have made it a tradition to return every year for our anniversary. We just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary (every time celebrated at the Driskill Grill) and this was by far the worst experience we have had. It seems many different things have been changed from what we were used to, from the menu options to the overall restaurant environment and service. For some background on our night, when I made this reservation I had requested to be in a more private area, detailing that it was our 6th time celebrating our anniversary here. when we arrived we were seated in a nice area however about 20 minutes into our night the privacy was over as we learned we were next to a 8+ person bachelor party. It was very loud and uncomfortable but we still tried to make the best of it. Upon noticing the distinct changes in the menu, we always did the prefixed multi course option, we narrowed down options that we thought would work and made our order. The server was very nice but was not educated on the menu of the restaurant or the bar and could not answer our questions. We had cocktails off of the new cocktail menu and after a sip or 2 sent them back (something we have NEVER done in the past) instead opting for a beer and a basic vodka soda. We had an oyster appetizer that we were told had all of the dressings on the side but when it came out they were all full dressed, not a deal killer but just not what we had been told. We were also misinformed on the carrot soup as it was served hot when we were told it was cold. The steaks we received were great however by this time we were caught off guard by issues that we requested the check. My wife and I had dessert at another place and started questioning if we would be back next year or if these was sign of things to come at the Driskill Grill. We will more than likely give it another shot, but this has changed our opinion of one of our favorite places in Austin.
Delicious steak house in a beautiful setting. I ordered the Wagyu NY strip with foie gras on top, which was amazing. My husband had the lamb chops, also delicious. The chef sent out a chocolate dessert, which was decadent and delicious. We were in Austin to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary, and this dinner and our stay at the Driskill were the perfect splurge.
This WAS a fine place to dine. Those dYs are past.
