First, the hotel itself as such an amazing classic landmark. The grill inside is lively with great food and amazing service. You definitely know you're getting a very welcoming experience with perfect attention.
We started with the cheese and charcuterie board, which had the perfect mix of a wonderful selection. We also tried the scallops and the wagyu, both of which were absolutely amazing!
While the after dinner drink selection is not broad, it has everything you need. Over all, we had an amazing experience for which I would go back again.
I've done the Driskill Grill for Easter many times. I remember back when it used to be unlimited champagne as part of the brunch. I understand why they got rid of it, and that was okay because I used to have to hunt them down to get my glass refilled.
However, this year, while the food at the buffet was amazing, we found we still had to hunt them down to get anything. Our plates would not be removed for a while, and they would pile up on the table. When they did remove them, and took the silverware, we wouldn't be given new silverware until we found someone to ask (or ultimately even took some from an unsat table). We also had to keep scrounging for someone to bring us more drinks, although when we did order a bottle of champagne, that appeared relatively quickly. However, we were majorly disappointed to see an added mandatory 20% gratuity on our bill after such poor service, and then the waitress did her accounting wrong not once, but twice, and severely overcharged two of us. It took 30 minutes to actually get the bill settled, after we hunted her down once again to get the bill.
I have no problems paying for an amazing brunch, but I have problems paying for an amazing brunch with really bad service. I have an even bigger problem paying a mandatory gratuity for really bad service at a brunch that was highly priced to being with.
Greetings Jack. We greatly appreciate you choosing to spend Easter at The Driskill, and for your continued patronage over the years. While we are delighted you felt the buffet food was amazing and that your champagne was delivered promptly, we regret missing the mark on service in order to make your entire experience exceptional. We have taken your feedback to heart and are promptly addressing this with our team to ensure future holiday celebrations are up to the high standards we strive for.
Easter brunch at the Driskell ain't what it used to be. For years, it was an upscale celebration: grand rooms, ice sculptures, overflowing tables of food. Now, it's a sad shadow of what once was the Driskill Easter Brunch at the same price! At $98 per person, it felt like a swindle.
Thank you David for taking the time to review your dining experience with us. We appreciate your candid feedback, as we continue to evaluate and look to improve our special events; from our more intimate and family-focused brunches in The Driskill Grill, to our larger Thanksgiving brunch on the Mezzanine. We are honored you chose to spend your holiday at The Driskill and thank you for giving us the opportunity to improve in the future.
I chose this restaurant for my husbands birthday. When we arrived we one of the few tables in there and was put in the corner for privacy. Our server was efficient and gave us ample time to decide on the menu. We started off the beef tartar really good especially if you like balsamic, we both got the ribeye one prime and one dry aged. For the price of the dry aged ribeye, I really didn't taste any difference flavor. They were both cooked perfectly and very tender (we cut them with butter knives), we ate them with the brussel sprouts and had the chocolate cake for dessert. Our server made great wine selections for us and my only complaint was about half way through our meal a large table of drunk middle-aged women came in and sat down near and were so obnoxious we could barely hear our selves talk.
Greetings Kim and thank you for choosing to celebrate your special occasion at The Driskill Grill. We appreciate the wonderful review of your dining experience, from the perfectly cooked steaks, to the great wine selections from your server. We do apologize for the noise from the other table and hope to welcome you back soon for an even better experience and enjoyable surrounding.
My wife and I got engaged at the Driskill Grill over 7 years ago and have made it a tradition to return every year for our anniversary. We just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary (every time celebrated at the Driskill Grill) and this was by far the worst experience we have had. It seems many different things have been changed from what we were used to, from the menu options to the overall restaurant environment and service. For some background on our night, when I made this reservation I had requested to be in a more private area, detailing that it was our 6th time celebrating our anniversary here. when we arrived we were seated in a nice area however about 20 minutes into our night the privacy was over as we learned we were next to a 8+ person bachelor party. It was very loud and uncomfortable but we still tried to make the best of it. Upon noticing the distinct changes in the menu, we always did the prefixed multi course option, we narrowed down options that we thought would work and made our order. The server was very nice but was not educated on the menu of the restaurant or the bar and could not answer our questions. We had cocktails off of the new cocktail menu and after a sip or 2 sent them back (something we have NEVER done in the past) instead opting for a beer and a basic vodka soda. We had an oyster appetizer that we were told had all of the dressings on the side but when it came out they were all full dressed, not a deal killer but just not what we had been told. We were also misinformed on the carrot soup as it was served hot when we were told it was cold. The steaks we received were great however by this time we were caught off guard by issues that we requested the check. My wife and I had dessert at another place and started questioning if we would be back next year or if these was sign of things to come at the Driskill Grill. We will more than likely give it another shot, but this has changed our opinion of one of our favorite places in Austin.
Delicious steak house in a beautiful setting. I ordered the Wagyu NY strip with foie gras on top, which was amazing. My husband had the lamb chops, also delicious. The chef sent out a chocolate dessert, which was decadent and delicious. We were in Austin to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary, and this dinner and our stay at the Driskill were the perfect splurge.
This WAS a fine place to dine. Those dYs are past.

The filet was par at best. The ribeye was average However the wedge salad, creamed spinach and Brussels sprouts were UHHmazing! Wine selection was nice. We were seated in a small corner away from the rest of the restaurant. I think that was an effort at a romantic evening. But the ambience and atmosphere was truly beautiful.
Greetings and thank you for choosing The Driskill Grill. We are delighted you were impressed with our delicious side dishes, wine selection and beautiful atmosphere. Thank you for helping us identify areas for improvement. We hope to welcome you back for another wonderful evening soon.
Great steak and extensive wine list. Had a very good experience for my wife’s birthday.

Wonderful staff...excellent dinner.
Always my very favorite AUSTIN dining place and never better.
Greetings Anne and thank you for your wonderful review! We're honored to be your favorite dinner place in the city. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
The food was not good at any price, much less the price tag they put on their food here. Very disappointed.
Thank you for choosing to dine with us at The Driskill Grill and for your candid feedback regarding your dinner. We have reached out to you for additional details regarding your experience. We will address this with the Chef promptly, as we are frequently making updates to our menu. We greatly appreciate the feedback that will help us to improve our future guest experiences.
The service and food were outstanding. The maitre d was very unfriendly - gave us a table near what were going to be 2 large parties - I asked for a different table - he wanted to know what was wrong with the first table. I explained - he then tried to give us another awkwardly stationed table - I said why can’t we have one of the nice empty tables by the windows - away from noise, etc.. he said they needed to save those? For what? When I asked about the 4th or 5th time for a table that was in a quieter area - he had to confer with someone..! The place was almost empty. He was very rude in my opinion and a very poor representative for the hotel/restaurant.
Thank you for your recent visit to The Driskill Grill and for your thoughtful feedback on the service you received and the outstanding food. We always strive to provide the best service to our guests and wish the initial seating experience was as outstanding as the remainder of your experience. Food was amazing and our server was great! Wonderful first dining experience
We had heard such great things and were so disappointed! The service was so awkward and not what fine dinning should be . The cocktails and atmosphere were great but the rest of the dinner came out cold and no flavor . Ordered the cheesecake for dessert and it was the size of a quarter. So odd!!!
With so many restaurant options in Austin, I was disappointed in the Driskill Grill overall. While we love the traditional quiet atmosphere and somewhat straight-forward menu, the room was awkwardly bright and so quiet that I was afraid the other tables were having to hear our entire conversation. The food and service were fine, but nothing to write home about. The "crabcakes" were described to be what they were, but they were underwhelming. Mussels, meh. Mac was great and entrees were fine, just uninspired. I appreciated the professionalism of the service, just not impressed as a whole.
Just another boring restaurant. I was expecting a classic, white tablecloth, great service, great food experience. Every single possible thing disappointed. Down to the fake Flowers.
Great venue for a bday celebration. We enjoyed it.
Surprised by the service (or lack thereof?) on Valentine’s Day 2019. I wouldn’t call it necessarily bad, just very inattentive. The restaurant was full but not particularly busy. The food was good, came as ordered, no issues. Our server just didn’t check-in, offer suggestions, or do anything but take our order really.
Guess that’s what you get with a built in service charge. I certainly wouldn’t have tipped the 20% that was built into the check based on the service received.
Dinner at the Driskill for our anniversary/ Valentine seemed like a great idea since we had dined there many times before and always enjoyed the experience. When we arrived we noticed an immediate difference in the ambience in that the classy white table cloths had been replaced by what appeared to be French bistro tables- a distinct clash with the rich wood in the room. We ordered filets- med. rare- that arrived so over-cooked that the server noticed it before we did. We sent it back and waited 20 mins. for the next one. By then we had finished an entire bottle of wine, all the side dishes were cold, and any sense of celebration had long evaporated. There were very few patrons dining when we arrived, so this was not a case of the kitchen being overwhelmed, it was a case of poor management and poor performance by the kitchen. We also found the menu not that creative, not that broad, and not that enticing. Overall, it was the worst. I would love to think the Driskill could be fixed, but I'm not sure I would risk the money again to find out. Anyway, I think you get my drift.
Coincidentally, we bumped into a lady the next day that was planning on dinner at the Driskill with her husband until she heard our story. You have now lost at least two tables with one bad experience.
Greetings and thank you for your returning to The Driskill Grill for this special occasion. We appreciate your detailed feedback regarding, and we are disappointed we fell short of your expectations. We continue to update our menu and look for ways to improve our dining experience. Your feedback will be shared with our teams as this has provided us with a coaching opportunity for improvement. We hope you will allow us another opportunity to better serve you in the future.
We had the tasting menu and everything was delicious. The wine pairings were really good with it, too. Definitely a treat yourself type of place, but for a once a year thing totally worth it.
Finally, a good restaurant where you can hear yourself and your companion.
Really enjoyed a fine dinner and fine wine. The service was excellent. Brought back fond memories from long ago.
It was our first time dining. We loved the food and its farm-to-table prep. The service was great. Wine list was solid. The ambiance was like being in Washington (without the pretentiousness). We really enjoyed it all and will be back!
The steaks were FABULOUS, but the service and the ambiance were not in keeping with the prices being charged. I would have received better service and better side dishes at Outback Steakhouse and payed a fraction of what the evening cost.
It was the last night of our honeymoon and the staff at Driskill Grille went above and beyond to make it such a special night!! The food was absolutely delicious starting with the sourdough bread followed by the crab cake, steak, creamed spinach, risotto and chicken! Somehow we even from room for a chocolate cake. A must visit while in Austin!
Very enjoyable evening
It was a really nice place. Very quiet, food was pretty good. Was there on a Thursday night and almost has the restaurant to ourselves.
The AC was too cold and the Restaurant claimed the bar was too hot. Laughable for the amount of money we spent on dinner not to have a handle on your air conditioning and heating. My wife had to ask for a blanket from the hotel it was that cold. Everyone in the Restaurant had their coats and jackets on. We wont waste our money on this Restaurant again!
Beautiful hotel! Delicious farm to table food. Amazing service. An Austin local favorite.
Dinner was excellent and the dining room is very lovely. Our server Roy was excellent, very attentive and knowledgeable. The only comment I would have would be that our tenderloin was undercooked ( it was taken back to kitchen and brought back very quickly, temperature perfect). Thanks for a lovely Christmas
Dinner for us, very nice not to dine alone and have to prepare dinner .
We have in the past enjoyed the bar food, however Christmas dinner was a total disappointment. At $130/person we expected delicious food, not even close.
We went there for Christmas dinner. It was a fixed menu and had an ample amount of food. The first course was a Pumpkin Soup. It was a bit bland but it did start the meal off right. The second course we got was scallops and a Caesar Salad. Both were delicious. I enjoyed the scallops as they were wrapped with bacon. For the main course, it came with Beef Tenderloin, Scottish Salmon, deviled eggs, creamed spinach, potatoes, vegetables, and spaghetti squash. It was served family style and you could get more if you had room after the first offering. Finally there was desert. It had items from Bread Pudding to cheesecakes to tarts and many other things. Let's say that we left full and happy. A good place to eat on the holidays.
After several times of dining here for Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day...this was a terrible disappointment. Doubt we will go back unless they get a new chef. And staff.
For what they charge, the food isn't much. We went for one of their fixed price holiday meals, but it had strangely questionable choices for food. A pumpkin soup with granola in it, a salad, then a filet and salmon served family style with creamed spinach and spaghetti squash for sides. The redeeming feature was the desert bar, which had a great selection (but the bread pudding was strangely bitter). Not worth $130 per person plus the service fees and included gratuity that comes with a hotel. To boot, we had a kid who was a vegetarian, and we were informed by the waiter that they didn't have a special kids' menu, but they sold the fixed price at a reduced children's price. So I paid $65 for my child to eat deserts and bread. When I walked out, I saw all the other families with children had been allowed to order off the bar menu, and they were eating pizza and sliders. What a waste of money. If you want to pay less and have good food, go to Eddie V's or the Roaring Fork, or really anywhere else but here.
Great ambience. Service was a tad slow, but very attentive. Food was excellent. Valet parking a bit pricy. 4 out of 5 stars.
Christmas brunch @ $130 per person was way overpriced. And a 20% automatic uplift for the tip for a party of four was a bit too much. The quality and assortment of the food was ok but we have had better for much less. The ambience is terrific and very traditionally Texan.
Drinks were good but Food was terrible and extremely over priced. Will not be going back for dinner
We loved the atmosphere and the food was incredible! Perfect portions with impeccable flavor!
The Grill at The Driskill offers a time gone by ambiance when people dressed for dinner and looked forward to a special meal “out”. Both of us ordered the French Onion Soup, which we found to be very satisfying. Our steak and lamb chops were cooked to perfection! The Brussel sprouts were tasty; though we prefer them roasted instead of pan-seared. Desserts - creme brûlée and hazelnut torte - were the perfect ending. Service was excellent. A very enjoyable evening.
