Dragonfly at Hotel ZaZa Ratings and Reviews
Every year, around the OU/Texas football game, my family and close friends rely on me to pick a new/different place to gather for a great dinner. The Dragonfly came through in every category. The food was fabulous and the service was just right. Our server, Chris, was entertaining and there to meet our needs at the perfect time without hovering. The wine list made our choice in bottles difficult as they are all exceptionally tasty and enjoyable. We managed to find enough room to share desserts for the perfect finish to a delightful evening. Thank you!
Even though the dishes are overpriced, I figured it was worth it for the environment. When the food came out, we were extremely disappointed. The seafood had a funky texture and reeked of fishiness, meaning it was not fresh, and the pasta was really bland and extremely oily. The positive is the management staff went out of their way to make up for the disappointing food. I don't mean to bash this place since management took great care of us, but the food really put a damper on my evening.
The waiter was not very friendly. He was somewhat rude, uninviting, and he was so very slow with all of our meals. The food was subpar for the price we paid. The food was cold, and under done. The manger was nice, and gave us a glass of champagne for our food being cold. The waiter still continued to be unfriendly, and did I tell you did not tell us his name, and when we asked if he did he said no. That was rude. So we will not be dining here again.
We have gone to Dragon Fly about 3 times a year for the last 4 years (whenever we are in town for business). It has always been amazing. We have ordered almost everything on the menu and it has been fantastic. The calamari salad appetizer is to fantastic. If you don't like heat, ask to have the peppers removed. They are spicy, but delicious. The staff is also fantastic. They are so accommodating and willing to allow changes to selections on the menu (different vegetables etc). The desserts are HUGE, and they will also modify them. Just a great experience every time.
The food was marginal and the service was less than marginal - especially given that there were only 8-10 other occupied tables. This was a carryover poor experience from the previous evening when the place was very crowded, the service was poor, and the music was unbearably loud for no apparent reason. I will give it another shot - but only because it is attached to Zaza and I enjoy staying there.
The Dragonfly offers outstanding friendly and attentive service as well as a fine menu selection. We enjoyed the salmon and the pasta entrees with appetizer and dessert. Would recommend to locals and visitors. Note, the drinks (cocktails/wine) are very expensive!
My brother knows the chef and mentioned it would be fun to try restaurant when my foodie hubby is in town next visit. I requested to visit before he makes it to our hometown to visit from my/our current residence in So Cal, realizing Chef Dan may not be cooking that night. We were greeted/treated well & offered choice seating, but noticed the staff were a little off their game, along with food. I/we look forward to returning and enjoying a meal from Chef Dan at some point. I personally love boutique accommodations and have enjoyed them in SoCal, thus want to encourage others to venture that direction if they haven't already done so. Sadly, we weren't in social media/picture mode so have nothing to offer in that realm.
Dinner was great. The experience declined when we moved to the pool area. Bar service was non existent at the pool and the employees standing at the gate were less than helpful. We were hotel guests and that was the worst part of our experience. We were celebrating 2 birthdays.
We cannot wait to come back! This was our first visit to Dragonfly and we thoroughly enjoyed it. When you walk through the front door of the hotel, you are enchanted by the unusual decor. Likewise in the restaurant itself: eclectic to say the least! The service was some of the best we've enjoyed. Our waiter was superb, and managers stopped by frequently to see how we were enjoying the evening. We loved everything we ordered: from the small plates (cheese plate was a nice mix, ahi tuna tacos nicely spicy) to delicious onion soup (would come back just for the soup), and our entrees (beef, pork, scallops and salmon) were all delicious, as we passed the forks and tasted each other's entrees for our party of four. Delicious food, nicely flavored, great sauces... we will plan to return soon!!! You will enjoy dinner here!
While several employees checked on us throughout the meal, our waiter wasn't as interested. The guy that delivered our food was by far the best experience of service we received. He was cheerful and friendly. Our actual waiter could have taken a note from him.
My wife and I went to the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center on Saturday, so selected Dragonfly based on reviews and location to the Symphony. We had a reservation, and the hostess literally did not even smile or say one word when we entered, just stared at us. I told her of our reservation, she walked us to a table then turned around and walked away, again saying nothing. We were seated in the very crowded and loud bar area, even though there is an entire dining room just through the doors, and only 3 tables were taken in the dining room. We found that very odd. You have a nice romantic dining room and you seat us in the bar? Also, she sat us right near an exterior door. There was a wedding going on, so the door literally was opening every 5-10 seconds. It was a chilly night, so we didn't care for the seat location at all. We asked our waiter, Kevin, if we could go into the dining room, which he gladly took us. Kevin was outstanding. He was friendly and attentive and he was definitely the highlight of the dinner. I gave service 3 stars, but Kevin was a 5. The hostess was a zero. The prices are high, in our opinion, especially since we felt the food was average. When we went to leave, the same hostess never said a word to us again. At least she was consistent. There are many restaurants in DFW that I'd rather spend my $150 on for 2 glasses of wine, 2 salads and 2 dinners. I doubt we'd go back.
First time for my date but has been years since I have dined at Dragonfly. It was fantastic. Server was outstanding. Engaging yet not to much so. Great table presence. Food was wonderful. I had the fish special and my date had the red snapper. Flavors exploded in your mouth and while we usually share an entree this time we had our own and each ate everything on our plates. Great bar scene and good place for people watching. We were never rushed or felt like the table was needed. It was a wonderful evening and can't wait to go back.
It was my birthday and I was celebrating with friends and family. The service was kind but I just had an issue with how much delay there was in getting through dinner. Although it was a bit frustrating at first, they ended our night with complimentary desserts and genuine apologies
