We found it hard to park in the area but once we accomplished that we enjoyed our meal. Our entrees included the duck and beef BOURGUIGNON, both were very good. Service was good and so was the atmosphere.
Food was not hot, barely warm and we waited a very long time for the main course. No excuse for barely warm dinner. Disappointing.
Great food overall and a good dining experience! Would eat here again.
Great Food, Nice and Quiet place to chat. I prefer a little more energy in my atmosphere. A jazz piano or harp would have been a nice touch.
The place was very hard to find as the whole sign did not light up. Drove around in circles. The portions were very small. An example I got a quail appetizer wrapped in bacon as my main meal. I had no idea how small it was. It was ~$13. Way overpriced. The food tasted great! The service was great!
Loved the appetizers, but my pork tenderloin though tasty in itself was overwhelmed by the chipotle sauce and slightly over cooked.
We came for dinner on New Year's Eve, something the we have done over the past three years and as usual the overall experience was outstanding. For this special occasion the menu was already set for either a 3 or 4 course meal, with several choices in each course, at a set price. The timing of each of the courses was well done and paced nicely. We will be having out of town guests in the next few weeks and we have already established that we will bring them here for dinner during their visit.
Chef Janos did NOT disappoint on his PreFixe menu for NYE. I ordered a drink called the south 6th which was dangerously delicious as well as the mushroom soup and the cabrilla with shrimp over squid ink rice. My palette was in heaven.
four of us went for dinner; atmosphere / ambiance nice. Had the Sunday dinner special - found it dry & 1 piece actually burned. Another had the Chiles En Nogado - acceptable but nothing special. Was disappointed to find a couple of mushrooms in the mix (anti-fungi person) and the menu made mo mention of them.
Staff was solicitous and helpful, friendly and engaging. Food was delicious!
Always delicious, excellent service, terrific menu. Downtown Kitchen is my favorite downtown restaurant.
Great appetizers, good drinks, good beer, and great ambience. The entrees we ordered left a lot to be desired. Everyone on the table decided to order the duck or the beef bourguignon. It was a consensus that the beef was a bit dry, flavorless, and lacked any depth. Same thing for the duck, as it did not measure up to expectations with some of the duck plates being over cooked and the many lacked to note that the duck was a quarter and not a breast as it was assumed by everyone on the table.
This was our third time at Downtown and it was the least we enjoyed it of all three times.
Restaurant was VERY FULL. Noisy, but we could still have a conversation (unlike what often happens in other restaurants). Food was excellent. Expensive... They have the BEST Sonoran Hot Dog (their version is called J Dawg)!
Food was inventive and quite good. Really enjoyed the pork tenderloin, but the meatball soup fell a little short. Chocopie dessert was a hit.
Would absolutely return to try more of the eclectic menu.
Great food, ambiance and fun!
Our first visit was a very positive experience in every way. We are light as we were headed to the theatre but will definitely go back soon!
We have lived in Tucson for 23 years. We experienced one of the best meals we've ever had!
This is a wonderful place, and has become our favorite for Christmas Eve. Food is amazing and original, with local ingredients. Terrific service. We have been following Chef Janos for years and often see him in the kitchen. Love this place
Christmas Eve dinner. Wonderful service. Good food.
Sunday chicken dinner like non other. What a delicious treat.
Janos Wilder is as good as ever. My son, daughter-in-law, wife and myself for dinner a few days before Christmas. Korean Fried Chicken was fantastic, entrees - Salmon, Beef Bourginion (sp), lamb with rigatoni, a tofu and port dish - all excellent. Love this place!
Went to Downtown kitchen for a birthday dinner with friends and our teenage kids. It is always one of our favorite restaurants and we had a great time. Outstanding food and service as usual!
Enjoyed this new-for-us venue! Wanted somewhere new and different for my wife’s birthday, and Downtown Kitchen was perfect. Especially appreciated the friendly staff; they made the evening feel as if we were among friends!
Experience was great but was a bit off putting when one of the servers delivered our food and reeked of body odor. It’s not exactly what you expect to smell when dining out at a nice restaurant and you are about to eat dinner.
Terrific pork tenderloin dish. Seasoning was perfect, not too much pr too bland. Potatos cubes were perfectly searedn crinchy out and smooth flavorful in. Rest was really great too. We are returning!!!
This was the best dining experience we've had all year. Absolutely essential for any visit to Tuscon. Service was great and the food the most amazing and subtle blend of flavors. The wines paired wonderfully. Fantastic.
Our first night in Tucson and we found this gem. Started with a tasty and spicy (!) cocktail, and moved on to our entrees and an excellent wines by the glass selection. She had the lamb rigatoni and I had the bouf bourguignon. Both were excellent choices from a winter oriented menu. Right next door to the famous Etherton Photo Gallery.
Great pre-theater dinner at one of my downtown Tucson favorites. Excellent, attentive, informed server. Really good calamari app with enough to share. Creative seasonal menu. I chose Beef Bourguignon—a bit bland but nicely presented and very tender beef short ribs.
Return visit for a pre-concert dinner. Friendly and efficient staff, prompt service. Waitress even inquired as to when we need to be finished to catch the show. Entrees of Stuffed Chicken, and Pork tenderloin were terrific. The spinach salad was a bit disappointing in that the spinach was sparse, and there were too many raisins/dried fruit. Tasty though. Nice selection of wines at all price levels. We will likely return.
Bartender seemed put off and annoyed. Place was dirty, the booth and the men’s room were disgusting. Lack of detail and attention for the cost, not as good as past visits. Would go again but down on the list.
Janos puts on a great menu as always, food was great. Service was excellent as well. Our only concern was that main course was pretty slow coming out (kitchen). Rush due to pre-theatre is expected, but we were there plenty early and still waited nearly 20 minutes for entree after finishing salad course which put the squeeze on and didn't get to relax as much as we hoped.
Had a nice experience here. The food was delicious as were the cocktails my friends and I had. The only issue we had was the cost for the bar food relative to portion size. Way overpriced for such a small plate. Very tasty but very small.
Restaurant was outstanding. The order was taken and took awhile for the server to deliver.
No big issue.
Enjoyed this place and the selection of food.
Our dinner meals were excellent. We were also able to take advantage of the happy hour drink pricing.
Outstanding food, great service. Made a an extra special effort to eat here when visiting Tucson on a trip from Phoenix.
Often original and unique interpretation of traditional entrees, appetizers and deserts. Comfortable dining room that is not too noisy. Service is good, but can sometimes be a little slow. A good spot for an easy relaxed dining experience downtown.
One of the best, if not THE best dining experience in Tucson from the original downtown James Beard chef! Always a creative and incredibly delicious menu that caters to all preferences.
Loved the food and ambiance but very noisy
Always love the inventive menus, want to try everything.
Wonderful new menu!
