;;;;cocktails we tried were interesting but too sweet. Would have preferred porchetta not in a broth but was very tasty. Wine special was outstanding

A superb restaurant--everything done with care and invention!
This was our second visit here and it was even better the second time. We were visiting from Indianapolis and this time had family joining us. The food and service were excellent. Brian, our waiter, was great and has a wonderful sense of humor. We will definitely be back next time we’re in town.
The food is consistently wonderful and creative (never had a bad meal).
This was a total disappointment. I loved the original and I loved the outside for small bites and drinks. The dinner was the worst meal I have had in Tucson. The soft-shell crab was awful, even disgusting. The breading was so thick that after I pulled crab out it was minuscule and tasteless. Wine was good and service was okay, but I would not recommend this experience to anyone else.
We don’t go often, but the food and service is always outstanding when we do. Very good creative menu and great drinks. It’s nice to see a creative non-alcoholic mixed drink menu. We will be back.
The salmon was the best we have had anywhere ! Perfect. It’s our favorite restaurant & it NEVER disappoints 😊
I made a reservation based on the advertising of the owners ability to create special dishes. The service was good. The ambience was good. Unfortunately the food was really not special. Our entrees were cold and packed flavor. If a restaurant claims to create amazing food, I would expect to be amazed. Unlikely to return.
This was my first visit and I was so pleased. The food was amazing, the waiter recommended a wine for my dish that I didn't know and it was delicious, and the ambiance is lovely, if a little loud. I was very happy with my experience here. The food really was amazing.
Eat here Everytime we are in Tucson
Always great and new menues
We love Downtown Kitchen - the new menu for spring / summer is terrific!
This place has one of the best local-driven menus in Tucson. From tepary beans to local meats, there's always something interesting on the menu. My favourite dish is the fried calamari (which the kitchen can do in cornmeal for anyone who's gluten free) because it's the perfect mix of sweet, sour, savoury, bitter and crunchy. Service has been amazing both time I've been there, and there's usually something organic or environmentally friendly on the by-the-glass wine list. The cocktails are creative too.
Extremely limited on site parking but more than ample free on street parking after 5pm.
For is excellent with interesting presentations. Very pleasant atmosphere and in walking distance to downtown after dinner activities.
Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails has great food! Some of the ingredients are unusual, but the kitchen has always acquiesced to my fussy tastes graciously and without argument! ("Can they hold this ingredient?" "Can my duck breast be cooked medium well?" Yes to both questions and the dishes truly were done to my liking.) The cocktails are really good -- both the traditional ones and their house specialties. Service is very, very good -- especially Jaime! He is very personable, efficient, and helpful. We enjoy it greatly, and will be back!
First time heading downtown to this restaurant. So good we will make more trips. Bryan the waiter was outstanding. Gave a good vibe on the downtown scene.
Excellent, interesting food a cut above the usual. Menu relatively limited, but each offering sounded quite good. Service was pleasant and thoughtful. The tables appeared to be close together but turned out not to be an issue at all. Noise level moderate but could still hear each other across a reasonably wide table. Limited wine selection -- go for the mixed drinks. This restaurant apparently has a reputation as one for "foodies," which is well deserved.
My wife and I had dinner on a weekend trip to Tucson, and the dinner was one of the highlights of the trip. My only regret is that we did not have more time, and space in our stomach. We never made it out of the happy hour menu, and we beyond full when we left. And the food we had was remarkable, some of the best you will find. We started with the warm oaxacan peanuts with garlic chips. For $3, we did not come close to finishing these. So good, so addictive, we had to send them away at the half way point. The fish tacos were outstanding - perfectly battered fish in two huge tacos with a nice crema and crunchy fresh vegetables. The grilled garlic mushroom bread was seated in a delicious light cream sauce, and I could have eaten 3 of these. The crisp fried soft shelled crab in peanut sauce was meaty, large and delicious, battered in a light tempura. This dish is a must-order. Last, we split the happy hour burger which is NOT your average burger. Served on fresh bread, the burger meat is seasoned perfectly, almost like a flavorful meatloaf, with fresh tomato and creamy cheese. This burger is a home run, and is different from any other burger that you will find anywhere. There was no way that we could have desert here, we were so full. Our server was outstanding, we sat on the outdoor patio on a beautiful Saturday night, and even with all that food, and plenty of cocktails, our bill was $78. Absolutely amazing value. We will drive back to Tucson simply to eat at this restaurant.
Excellent meal, great service; Downtown Kitchen is one of our favorite restaurants. We always have a wonderful meal.
Normally I like coming here. Made reservations for Easter and we were completely disappointed. I’m not going to go into all the details other we were first sat at the bar with my daughter who is 15. We had a reservation but then they acted like we could just as easily eat at the bar. We had to remind them we had a reservation and wanted a table. That was strange to start. Then, the beef entree was literally nothing but large globs of fat. So much so that the person eating it had to spit wads of fat out and there wasn’t a part of the meat to eat. The person wasn’t going to make a scene but it was obvious from the plate itself that the meat was poor quality—as large pieces of fat were all over it. The server never asked or commented. The server didn’t seem very interested. Overall highly disappointing and almost ruins a place that I Once enjoyed.
Although we reserved our table using Opentable and requested outside, when we went there we were given unknown wait time. Although it was said unknown(could be 1h) in 5 minutes, maybe 3 tables were available. And I showed the first available table and I said they left. For some reason, someone got seated there and we sat more uncomfortable table. These things seem little, but can ruin your experience at a restaurant.
Excellent service and menu.
One of the best restaurants in Tucson. Janos is a wizard of food. You couldn't fine a better meal anywhere.
Fun decor. Outstanding fresh food
We went to the restaurant since my wife had been there many times and I had not. She ordered the Duck and it was extremely chewy. Did not finish.the meal. I ordered the steak and after several long attempts at eating it, I sent it back. The steak was a cut I have had little experience with and was VERY tough, not even chew able. Had the bread pudding for dessert which was OK. We were both VERY DISAPPOINTED. Not worth the hype. The owner/chef needs to be back in the kitchen. He is the reason for the past success.
This restaurant has the most unusual menu in Tucson, food is very good
We ordered off the appetizer menu rather main courses this time and were quite happy with our choices. DOWNTOWN Kitchen has a great bar and keeps rotating their menu choices which help keep the dining experience fresh.
Fun dinner. Interesting menu items always makes for a fun dining experience. Though sometimes interesting doesn’t always work. Quail stuffed with pork and wrapped with bacon was great. The broth with the porchetta didn’t really work. Somehow despite the broth the meat was a little dry and separated away from the fat which was a shame. Overall still a good experience. Drinks were good, though most bars have moved away from the maraschino cherry in their old fashions.
Tasty and eclectic menu! Love the Pork Belly Donuts, Carnitas Stuffed Quail wrapped in bacon was delish, everything we tried was yummy. It is so great to have this gem downtown! A must try in Tucson for foodies!
Downtown Kitchen has a consistently high quality of food and service. It is always a pleasure to go there and try different menu options.
As always, tasty, creative menu. They are good about getting you out in plenty of time for a concert. Knowledgeable staff and friendly. Great ambiance.
We had reservations, and I recommend them. They were very, very busy. Our service had a couple of glitches, but nothing serious and we were able to leave as planned for the performance. The food, as always, was delicious.
Great food and service.
Excellent dinner with novel preparations, great service, comfortable space
Beautiful space with inventive delicious food. Great service. Loved our visit.
Innovative menu
Attentive service
I have dined here numerous times. I would like to see a fish option on the menu. But I like that the menu changes sometimes. Very eclectic menu.
Janos is always our first choice to take out of town guests....I especially love the cexquisite craft cocktails. Zane is our favorite waiter...so knowledgeable, playful and attentive.
We have always enjoyed coming here. Went with our family, 2 of us were vegans. Vegan options explained well by staff. Could be more vegan options though. African Game Changer soup was great. The Oyster mushroom dinner w/ vegan polenta was not that tasty, and the regular non-vegan Oyster mushroom dinner was just okay. Dinner orders came out very late and all four were not hot enough. Restaurant comped the Cioppino.
We were disappointed and not sure we'll be back. :-(
Great service, really delicious food. We had the calamari as a starter and absolutely loved it. The steak with mole was fantastic.
Excellent as always! First time there our friends, but I suspect it will not be there last visit.
