DOWNTOWN Kitchen + Cocktails
Food is always great there. Have been a number of times.
Food and service were amazing!
Awesome! Go now, don't wait! If you can't make it for the last day of the Sonoran Restaurant Week menu, ask for some of the items individually - you won't be disappointed! The Gazpacho was a delicious surprise.
My wife and I are frequent dine several times a year at Downtown and we almost always have a great time. Great ambiance and an eclectic menu and normally outstanding service make this one of our favorite restaurants. This latest visit was almost ruined however, by slow and unresponsive wait staff.
On arrival we were seated immediately and had water brought to the table quickly. It then took almost 20 minutes to see our server! We dined early and the restaurant wasn't busy, so this was quite a puzzle to us. We tried to inform one of the hostesses of our problem, but she just smiled and said "OK" and then want to the front of the restaurant (clearly visible from our table) and did nothing to track down our server. Eventually another hostess (or perhaps floor manager?) got our service started and everything was fine from there.
The food was excellent as always and featured a mix of familiar and exotic ingredients prepared in unexpected combinations; a truly fantastic flavor profile! My wife ordered a salmon dish that resembled of all things a deconstructed sushi roll. I ordered the lamb with piquillo peppers, potatoes, and picked peaches. Both were wonderful! And if you go, make sure to try the calamari--the best I've ever had anywhere in the world!
Despite the small hiccup on the service (everyone can have an off night from time to time), Downtown remains a favorite and a place we recommend without hesitation!
The cucumber melon gazpacho was intoxicating. I could have consumed a gallon.chef Janos was charming qhen he stopped by our table. I enjoy DTK eveey time I go.
We ate at Downtown Kitchen during Sonoran Restaurant Week. Our dinner was delicious!
We love going to downtown kitchen and this past visit was the only time I can recall really not enjoying my food at all. I actually couldn’t finish it . I ordered the ribeye mole and the steak lacked salt and was grislsly. The mole was didn’t have much depth and the overall meal with the corn just wasn’t good. Disappointing , as I’ve had so many fantastic and delicious main dishes here. The waiter hinted they have moved on from some regions and foods due to peoples “allergies.” I was disappointed to hear this. My favorite dishes here have been there Asian inspired cuisine and mainstays like the mushroom bread and most of their seafood or vegetarian dishes .
Great menu, food and drinks. Participated in Sonoran Food Menu and it had plenty of options for all.
Service was excellent but not intrusive.
Cocktails were unique and tasty.
Still our favorite restaurant for a great night out.
We were seated in dining at 4:00 for happy hour, so did not need to move again for dinner which was nice. Everything was great and lived up to its consistent high ratings. My only suggestion is to increase the size of your sign for parking and on the front of the building as it is difficult to see while driving.
What a Tucson treasure. The food is incredible. We always enjoy our nights out at DOWNTOWN!
Amazing restaurant in a historic brick building with mid-century modern decor. Inventive American dishes with a local twist. Several members of our party had the rib-eye steak grilled with mole spices from Native Seed search, one member had a cocktail with serrano vodka and the chocolate jalapeno ice cream sundae is amazing. Other menu offerings are milder, if spicy pepper isn't your favorite. Menu changes seasonally. Vegetarian and gluten free options. Everything we had was excellent and fresh. Service was attentive.
First time to Downtown Kitchen and Cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent as usual for Janos restaurants. The Mushroom Bread appetizer was especially tasty. We had the chicken and the lamb, both were presented well and flavored just right. The waiter knew where the lamb was from (Colorado) immediately which impressed me as most waiters don't have a clue. Service was top-notch as well. We highly recommend Downtown Kitchen and Cocktails.
Downtown Kitchen never fails to bring great service and terrific food together for a lovely evening.
We loved this place. Food was great and interesting glasses of wine!
We will be back.
Love this place. Always a great dinner !
Ambiance is definitely pleasurable along with the great music selection. Wasn't to impressed with the lamb chops or drink I ordered. All in all the experience wasn't to bad.
Great find. Really wonderful food and friendly staff. Owner/chef Janos checked on each table throughout the night. I can’t wait to go back!
Food was delightful, full of flavor with a beautiful presentation. Waiter was extremely warm and helpful with out ordering both wine and dinners. The four of us were very pleased and will look forward to returning,
Downtown kitchen was recommended by friends. The ambience and vibe was great. Took a while to get thru appetizers and mains, restaurant was not that busy. The chef was focusing on Panama cuisine. My wife had a stuffed chicken breast with chorizo and tapenade, I had braised pork dish. The chicken had little chorizo and a lot of olives, overpowering. My pork was way over cooked. The flavor profile of both was good just over done. I think the chef is good, he is trying too hard. Stick with the flavors, make the dishes simpler to deliver.
An eclectic mix of American staples, with food combinations that I would have never thought of. Drinks and service were fantastic. Menu changes monthly, so check out website for the latest. Highly recommended.
We absolutely loved the meal here and the staff were super.
The chicken with rice dish was very tasty and the cabrilla fish was really well prepared too. Great flavors and fusion of cuisine.
They have a wonderful bar area and the cocktails were delicious.
We great server and tried some of the special food inspired by Panama City. For an appetizer we had the Trotter Salpicon tostada which was refreshing and delicious. For dinner we had the pollo con arroz. The olive tapenade in the chicken gave it such a good flavor.
Service is always the best however this is the only time in five visits when my chicken and rice was under seasoned. It was quite pedestrian.
This is my favorite restaurant in Tucson. The food is very delicious whether you dine in or eat off the happy hour menu. I recommend this restaurant to everyone.
The food was AMAZING! The staff was very friendly. The only issue we had was because it took us a while to get waited on and then took us a while to get our check, which caused us to be late to our concert.
Great experience. Great food and service. The air conditioning was not strong enough so ended up sweaty during the meal.
Excellent quality experience on all levels. We had a particularly quiet table and could hear each other talk. Sometimes, in Winter, it's too crowded and close to hear each other. Summer's the best.
Food was outstanding, service was fantastic and we highly enjoyed the ambiance. Good wine selectuons alsi. Would recommend instantly. We celebrated a birthday there and would visit again for any reason.
I have been here many times and always enjoy. This time I went with the 3 course dinner from the summer menu of Panamanian specialties. The dishes were all of the highest quality and preparation, as one has come to expect from Janos Wilder. The service on this occasion was a little inattentive - only a minor knock, and I may have come to expect too much.
Superlative service and intriguing food! We will return to this wonderful Tucson treasure. Special thanks to Janos and The Carriage House for sponsoring Invisible Theatre ‘s Summer Sizzling Sounds
Great food on a slow night. Not many people when we were there but server was very nice and helpful, food was good and it has a cool feel. (Using the word cool means I am over 50)
We had a nice evening! The Salmon was amazing! We will definitely be back!
Janos Wilder and his staff are totally outstanding. The creative way they prepare and present local flavors always make a completely pleasurable dinning experience. Just love them!!!!!
Love this place but not the new menu. Ribeye was very rare, way underdone. Medium rare was what we asked for. Who ever sliced that should have noticed and not served it that way. I tried a spaghetti dish with mushroom and roe. It was described as simply delicious. It was served very mushy and bland. We will stick to the appetizers next time. Calamari, and garlic mushroom bread.
The ambiance is very nice but the cost of the food for the quality is atrocious. I don’t mind spending a good amount of money on food but when I spend the money and the food is mediocre it ruins the experience.
I always have a great meal and good time at Janos’ place. Take the 3 course tour. It’s Japan right now - and it’s outstanding. Tucson’s best restaurant and only a short walk to Congress and whatever scene is going on there.
Outstanding tastes again, and beautiful food as well. I do not often take pictures of my food but I wanted to remember my entree this time. I did not have time to take a picture of my appetizer but might have if I hadn't started eating it so quickly--the hamachi was purple on the edges from the hibiscus treatment. The appetizer could have been a little bigger, but I'm not complaining. Both entrees were big enough for someone with a normal appetite to have leftovers (Chicken stuffed with basil pesto and the Ankake Pork). If you have not eaten here in the summer with the around-the-world menus--Go!
Great food and service!
Food was delicious and service was right on time. This was the second time eating here and will definitely be back.
Amazing food, totally fresh and tasty, and extremely nice staff, simply outstanding!
