View Private Dining DetailsEveryone’s steak was over cooked. They completely disregarded the temperatures we requested. They brought a new round of steaks and then my mother in law’s steak was raw and she wanted it cooked medium.
Good experience but food order was mixed up. The Mac and cheese was good but not great. The steak and black truffle butter was amazing
Ok experience. Service was very slow. Looked like not enough waitstaff for outside seating. Truffle fries were not hot enough. Fillet very tender. Strip steak not so much. For the price of the meal expected first class experience and they did not deliver
Service was excellent!
I have to say that I was disappointed to find that after making a reservation that i was seated in a booth. The seats were cracked and peeling and there was no table cloth. All other tables had a cloth. Not what I expected.
This is a great steak restaurant, tender, delicious, cooked perfectly!
Has a nice relaxed atmosphere with great service, and a nice place to catch up with friends.
Our dinner was wonderful! The service was great and the filet medallions with crab and port demi-glaze was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The augratin potatoes were awesome too. Only suggestion was not to over do the burned sugar on the creme brûlée.
Kale salad was great and the Brussel sprouts were amazing! The salmon dish was great as well but my filet (which was $40) almost seemed like a rib-eye - just a little tough, a little fattier, and not very tender. I was really looking forward to it, given we were at a steakhouse. So I was disappointed in the steak. Also, being a huge fan of all things potato, the mashed potatoes were flavorless and had a sandy texture - maybe like they were left in boiling water too long..?? The service was great and our server was very attentive.
Great food and service. Steaks were cooked to perfection
Food was average at best. This is supposed to be a high end steak house but it is not. There was nothing that we had that was worth having again. Waiter was nice and professional but didn't serve our order the way that he was supposed to.
Excellent food, service and location. One of the nicest spots to eat in Charlottesville!
Our first visit to this restaurant, I will definitely go back.
The meal was delicious and the service was very attentive to our needs. Our server Dino was great. A very nicely appointed establishment.
Fried oysters were awesome - steaks done to perfection. An absolute wonderful experience
Simply fantastic. Our server, Katherine, was just the greatest! The wagyu tomahawk was amazing; cooked perfectly with a black butter sauce - yum!
I am very allergic to mushrooms, and I noticed they have white truffle oil over one of the menu items. When I booked the reservation for my nephew's birthday, I alerted them to the severe allergy. From the moment I arrived the host assured me my allergy would not be an issue. From the Chef & kitchen staff to everyone at the front of the house, I was treated like family you like and enjoy seeing. The meal was wonderful, the company fabulous, and the atmosphere was perfect. Thank you DTG you made a great impression!!
Very good food and service. Stopped by based upon recommendation. A little bit overpriced, but overall nice experience on Main Street.
The place was pretty busy and our server did a great job. The food was what you would expect for the price. Nice atmosphere and great friendly service we would go back
Fantastic steaks and the truffle fries are amazing!! Our favorite restaurant, have been back 3 times since December.
Went w one of my sons before the graham Nash concert. We had such a great time. The dining experience was outstanding! Warm and friendly. The food was delicious. Thank you for a wonderful “ date” nite.
We had lovely table and outstanding service!! The menu is varied enough to satisfy all tastes and accommodate all dietary needs. Service was efficient yet distant and we had plenty of time to dine before the show we were going to.
Known for its steaks and well deserved. Their apps are good but heavy in the seafood, minimal non-seafood options. Seafood on menu is not as vast and would stay away from Salmon..Small portion and dry..A we bit pricey for cville (Dinner for 8 was 650.00). Fortunately we had 4 non-drinkers otherwise bill could have hit 800..
Excellent in total!
Best steak in Charlottesville
Always have had great dinners at the Downtown Grille. Must have been an off night, entrees came out lukewarm. It was busy, rainy and many people trying to get tables without reservations. Waiter was great , gave us recommendations for the discontinued wine list which was an excellent pick! We will return. One of our favorite restaurants in C'ville.
Reserved on OpenTable and we were seated at the BEST table in the house in the front corner! Our waiter, Jason, was very accommodating, knowledgeable, and friendly! Amazing service! We ordered the signature salad with a wonderful homemade fig vinaigrette dressing, wagyu steak with pan seared scallops and roasted asparagus, a side of sauteed spinach, and caramel vanilla crunch cake! Every single dish was PHENOMENAL! We will go back and highly recommend this restaurant!
An unfortunate UGH on Valentine's Day. This is a better restaurant than our experience that night since we have been there before. Our waiter was on top of it, but the kitchen did not respond. The GM took care of it in the end, and we will go back because we love the wine list and the food on any other night - and the GM's willingness to make it right.
Wine list is one of the best we have seen and is reasonably priced.
Overall everything was amazing but $65 dollars for a dozen of roses was ridiculous. That's the only negative thing I have to say. I'll definitely come back. 5 stars
First time. Easy access to restaurant. Food, service was incredible. Will definitely dine there again.
Excellent food. Truffle fries are a must. Can’t wait to go back.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. We always hit the bar for dinner and drinks before any show we might attend on the downtown mall. And in the event of a special occasion...birthdays, anniversaries, anything that requires a celebration...this is where we go. The service is always impeccable and the food is incredible. This past Friday was no exception. It was my best friend’s birthday. She and her husband are true foodies and, oh my goodness, were they ever impressed. Looking forward to our next trip to Charlottesville and the Downtown Grille!
First time dining during restaurant week. Was a great experience. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. My husband had mahi mahi and I had filet. We shared veggies and mashed potatoes. And I had cheesecake for dessert. We will definitely be back.
Server was great, steaks were cooked perfectly, and overall the experience was pleasant.
Disappointing. Went there for Restaurant Week, and did not make us want to come back.
The noise level was higher because the restaurant was PACKED! We go there for the perfectly-grilled steaks, the seafood, the napery and linens, the sparklingly perfect glassware, and the friendly but classy waiters. The filet was magical! It is a gem to enjoy as often as one can.

The overall restaurant was wonderful and the service was great. The food while good and nicely prepared was lacking in seasoning and flavors. Portion was good but I would have liked something more favorable.
We have not been to Downtown Grille for a few years but tried it for Restaurant Week (they offered two courses instead of the usual three for $35 RW). The service was very good, nice to see servers/managers from the past. But it didn't seem as though they put their best foot forward. The caesar salad was pedestrian and the romaine lettuce bitter (I have the same problem at home). The second course, a 6 oz filet was very good, about 3/4 inch thick so not a usual filet mignon. Served with a vegetable medley that was warm not hot and frankly tasted like something my mother used to make us eat back in the 1970s. Mashed potatoes with no sauce pretty unsatisfying. On the up side, they offer several decent white wines starting at $6 a glass, which is other people's Happy Hour price. If you're going to get people back in for RW, perhaps put your best foot forward and up the food quality and more choice on sides.
Steak was great, shrimp and grits small (only 4 shrimp), burger was very dry (requested medium - seemed overcooked), vegetables all good. Service was excellent.
Great place for dinner with friends. Great food. Good wine. Excellent service. Pricey, but worth it.
Went for restaurant week. The filet was excellent, but the mashed potatoes served as a side were definitely instant potatoes. Also had steamed veggies as a side which I'm pretty sure were out of a microwave steam bag from Kroger. Have eaten here before and did not have this experience, but am definitely hesitant to go back now.
