Steaks much better down the street at Prime 109
Excellent server/service, and awesome food! This was our 4th visit to Downtown Grille, and we were again very happy with the quality and quantity of food, as well as the impeccable service we received. we would definitely recommend it!
Meal was delicious, service exceptional, so accommodating.
Nice touch was complimentary sparkling wine for anniversary
Christmas Eve, so a challenging night. We ordered a premium cut, advertised as the house specialty. Unfortunately, we received a terrible cut of meat, probably 2/3 fat and inedible.
The manager apologized, comped dessert, but the poor quality meat was quite surprising and disappointing. We expected better, tainted the special occasion.
Service was very attentive and good. Been to the restaurant half a dozen times and this was a first.
Our family goes here every Christmas Eve. The food, and service are always excellent. One of our favorite places to dine in Charlottesville.
Great service, wonderful music for dining
Great food & great service. Would definitely eat there again!
Downtown Grill offers the best meat in Cville by a very long margin
Worst waiter ever, service took forever! We were at the table for 25 minutes before receiving a drink!
One of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. Always wonderful!
As always a great time, great food and service! Perfect for any type of outing but ours was for a business meal.
Everything Amazing, staff, FOOD delish!!!!!!!!!
I would totally recommend this place!!!!!
Michael is an excellent server and Paul is an outstanding bartender
Amazing food and service!! Our waiter went above and beyond! Was a great dining experience!
We got to the restaurant about 29 minutes before our reservation. The manager was at the host stand and immediately offered to get us drinks. One of the servers was close by, jumped in, got us drinks and made sure we were comfortable before our table was ready. He ended up being our waiter. He was fun and engaging, the service and food was spectacular. One of the best experiences.
This restaurant should be getting 5 stars. The food was very good. However, even though the dining room had several empty tables we felt very rushed by our waiter. The bar was full, so we chose to have a drink at the table. The sides have been changed and are much less appealing. I added an "upgrade" to my steak with was fried onions and green peppercorn sauce. Both were good but they were very stingy with the sauce.
Took my daughters and three friends for what I’d hoped to be a special dinner night as I was visiting from out of town. The service was very slow throughout, which required I go find our waiter at one point. We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts that came shriveled and blackened, but the runner happily delivered them anyway. I asked for another order that came only slightly less burned. My steak ordered medium rare was delivered medium well. When I noted the issues to the manager he offered to comp our desserts. However, when my bill was delivered only one dessert was comp’d and a 20% gratuity automatically added. Poor experience, poor handling. We’ll not return
We were visiting in Charlottesville and really enjoyed our dinner at the Downtown Grille. It is a wonderful eatery on the pedestrian walkway. Parking was a challenge
Celebrated by wife's 40th birthday with a weekend trip to Charlottesville and a special dinner at the Downtown Grille. The food and drinks were amazing! Our table was near the food prep area which we were a little disappointed with but overall we really enjoyed the experience. We would definitely recommend this for a special occasion. Great night out!
Great steak place, service was very good. Went out of their way to make sure the food was prepared the way we wanted. Recommend the spot to anyone wanting a good steak.
We eat at Downtown Grille 3-5 times a year. It had been some time since we had been and were happily celebrating birthdays. Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed. The menu was lacking in steakhouse basics such as oysters, spinach, mushrooms.
The calamari was gooey and flavorless. The ahi tartare was great.
The steaks were served on cold plates. The fries were lukewarm, the beans were lukewarm and the steaks were lukewarm but flavorful. However, the rib eye was beyond well-marbled to plain fatty. If the restaurant had been super busy maybe then there was an excuse for our food to sit so long before reaching the table.
Dessert did not improve. The choices were lackluster. The crime brûlée was not light and airy. There were no berry desserts such as a crumble and the ice cream choice was slopped in a bowl with no garnish.
For 5 people tip was added on the bill. Really!
High points - the martinis , the ahi tartare and the lobster entree. We were informed that they have had a problem with chef turnover and it appears the problem has not yet been resolved. As this is a favorite of ours for years, we were so disappointed. It will be a long time before we return if ever.
Our server was OUTSTANDING! I believe his name is Corey
Beautiful dining experience. Food was nothing short of spectacular, accompanied by superior service. Looking forward to my next meal here.
The quality of service and food has gone downhill. Although the atmosphere is nice the meal is just not worth the price. My husband and I fine dine often, And have given The Downtown Grille three chances. This last time will be the last, the steaks were unseasoned and dry. He ordered the DTG steak which is their specialty, it was dry and unseasoned. The best part of our meal were the mashed potatoes. When it was all over we spent $260 and left feeling like we wasted our money and unsatisfied. Our waiter was very distracted and got our table mixed up with another several times. We will not be back, there are to many fantastic restaurants in Charlottesville that offer better service and food without being pretentious without reason.
My filet was tender but over cooked. All others in our party were very satisfied with their entrees. The waiter was outstanding. We’ll be back!
Wow. What a great dining experience. It is rare that we are ever satisfied in both the quality food and quality of service. I got the NY strip and it was so perfectly seasoned, so perfectly cooked. The price point is a bit high but for the quality, very much worth it. We are from Richmond but will definitely recommend and be back next time we are in Charlottesville.
Our extended family enjoyed a lovely meal while visiting my son for Parents Weekend. The food was fantastic. We ordered the appetizer special of calamari, shrimp, and beef bites and it was delicious. Everyone loved their entrees (filets and crab cakes)although we ordered way too many sides. I highly recommend the Brussel sprouts and truffle fries. The waiter allowed our 8 year to order chicken fingers and the chef made her a personal little bowl of honey mustard! The wine was perfect, and so was the dessert. This is a great place for a hearty meal with excellent service! It is quite impressive and I hope to return again when in town. One of the best meals I have had in Charlottesville.
Ordered the filet mignon cooked to medium. It was served well done and extremely dry. Very poor quality food especially for the price.
Outstanding service and great food. Very comfortable.
The beet salad was horrible and the filet not as good as it has been in the past. Service fabulous but overall disappointing especially for the price
Excellent sommelier!!!! Great service.
Completely wonky evening. The main attraction, the 16oz ribeye was so tough I think it was from a cow on its last legs. The service was really out of sequence. 20 min to order drinks, appetizer was served cold before the drinks. Dishes were not cleared timely...get it together front of the house and find a good butcher shop.
Great food, knowledgeable waiter and sommelier.
Our waiter was very attentive and did an excellent job. All of our steaks came out perfectly cooked as ordered. Wine list was extensive and the ambience good. Would definitely recommend this establishment.
The food was outstanding with lots of good choices. The restaurant was not crowded so the Serra’s impeccable.
I wish I lived in Charlottesville! Then I could eat at this fantastic restaurant as often as I liked. All five of us were really satisfied with our food: halibut, salmon, crab cake, soups and salads, burgers etc., not to forget the delicious key lime pie and flourless chocolate tart.
