Douzo Modern Japanese Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I've been visiting Douzo since 2009 and always have a good meal. The ambiance is always good - like the music (different than most Japanese/Sushi restaurants). The food is pretty consistent. I hadn't been in awhile and the menu was newer - great photography and representation of items. Spicy Tuna was extra spicy (or at least I don't remember it being that spicy). Had chef's sashimi special and was really good/fresh. Uni was delicious.
I had to wait for my date to arrive. I was seated and brought water. The staff checked in on me to see if I needed anything while I waited. When my date came we ordered and food came fast. The food was hot, fresh, and really tasty. I would definitely be back.
Been here a few times in the past and food was great. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the food wasn’t good. The sushi didn’t taste fresh at all. We had to send an order back, and the couple next to us also had to do the same. The drinks barely had any alcohol in them, so we switched over to wine. On the plus side, our server was great, and staff was friendly. But for the price, I couldn’t recommend going back to this venue for the quality food we received.
I went for lunch with two friends. We all had the exact same thing: the Bento box with a spicey tuna roll and the salmon teriyaki that came with a few pieces of broccolini. The salmon and the vegetable were perfectly cooked and delicious. The tuna roll was fine. What wasn't fine was the jumble of tempura. The batter was soggy and the vegetables and whatever else were totally undicernible. I've been to this restaurant several other times and have found the food excellent.
The menu at Douzo was extensive. It contained extensive sushi, sashimi, and tempura options as well as many other kaiseki choices and many excellent rolls. Food was prepared exquisitely and the presentation was equally impressive. We drank cold sake and beer but the wine list was also extensive. Service was attentive and the food arrived promptly. Restaurant was peaceful rather than buzzing although it was full on a Friday night. Will definitely return on my next trip to Boston.
Took my friend who was in town from Atlanta and a sushi novice. I ordered a mixture of raw and cooked sushi rolls. She is now a sushi fan and thought it was the best thing ever. She raved about the freshness and taste. She also tried the spicy lobster soup and loved it. I'm I of course have adored Douzo for sushi for years. The very best sushi.
Food was delicious- all the sushi was very fresh and large portions for the price. The waiter wasn’t super attentive and then rushed us out by telling us another group was waiting for our table when we were finishing our bottle of wine (after we had paid and left over 20% tip) so thought that was quite rude.
On my own at CME. Asked for private table, not so much ... but was really cool hearing conversations at adjacent tables. One couple, to my right, had clearly met on a dating app - ahh young love, too my left a slightly more seasoned couple - initially antagonistic with each other but then settled down with talk about current events..one was apparently a scientist/engineer passionate about the two neutron stars that recently collided and created lots of elements, the end game being Fe apparently (new knowledge I learned from the overheard conversation) - VERY cool..so I wanted a private table but got a lot better. Love this place, go there every time I get to Boston.
Tried for 6:00 reservation but not available on OT. Settled for 5:45 instead. Restaurant was recommended by concierge at Marriott. Was concerned it would be crowded since we had to rush to meet 5:45 reservation. Restaurant was empty! At 6:00 there were maybe three tables. Plenty of servers. Couldn't figure out why 6:00 reservation could not be granted. Food was very good.
I've been going to Douzo for many years and it's becomea dependable favorite. I think it's one of the best options for sushi and love introducing new friends to this place. The freshness of the fish is fantastic, and while not inexpensive, worth it for a nice dinner. They also do a beautiful job with accommodating special dietary restrictions.
The food was really good but service was pretty terrible. We told the hostess we were three but then ended up having a fourth join and they never gave us a fourth menu. We had to flag down our waiter to take our order- ok. But then it look 45+ minutes for them to get us our food. No explanation or apology and we asked twice if it was on its way. If you have the time, the sushi is worth it but not a great spot for a business lunch.
Great food, great service, great place. First time to Boston om vacation, and when I asked my hotel concierge where to go for dinner they said Douzo. Went on a Monday night, and ordered 5 sushi rolls and soup with my girlfriend. Will go back if I'm in town again.
Food was good, especially the tuna tataki starter...that was definitely a highlight. There were a lot of special rolls which were priced very high. I tend to stay away from special rolls and did just that. Going with my typical order of a few rolls, a couple of sashimi orders, a wine for my wife and a beer for me, it was $110. It was good, but higher priced than normal. If you're looking for nice restaurant style ambiance for a first date or business dinner, it's worth the additional cost. If you prefer a basic sushi bar, look elsewhere.
I ordered Toro which was on their list of specials price 22 when the dish was served they brought plain tuna price 6 dollars. I told the server and he took it to the sushi chef and came back and told me they had no Toro today. I made a comment about rhem trying to switch the order and was brushed off by the server like i was an annoyance not a customer. VERY DISHONEST FOR A SUPPOSEDLY HIGH END RESTAURANT.
