What is the Double Standard you ask? The Double Standard is elegant fine dining style food with a fun and casual atmosphere.

Lovely relaxed space. Delicious food, good cocktails and nice wine list. The broccolini is amazing- pastas and salads are all delicious. They roll up the windows when the weather is nice, which is almost always, so the space is full of fresh air. When we are in San Diego for business or pleasure, Double Standard is one of our favorites.
We had the focaccia bread and burrata for starters and were very pleased with both. For dinner, the four of us had a variety of pasta dishes, and all of them were very tasty. The drinks were very good as well. I recommend the Fig Mule. My sister had the rose drink and didn't care for it. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us a few laughs. The couch seats were very comfortable, but the guys had to switch out the wooden chairs for comfy ones. We came early and had the place to ourselves on a Saturday for about an hour before it started getting a little more busy. We had a great time.
Nice, casual ambiance in Gaslight District. Good pasta!
Food was so so nothing special. We order few appetizers, octopus was the worst octopus we have had in a restaurant, small tentacle, chewy and not flavor. The focaccia bread was good. I order steak, ordered medium rare came out almost medium well didn’t want to wait for the food because they took a long time for appetizer and main course. My friend ordered salmon dish she didn’t like it, the whole table didn’t think the food was good just editable. And the server we had wasn’t the best either. I won’t be coming back.
Great place in down town San Diego! Loved the food and drinks. Also all the staff es incredibly nice. I’m sure we will come back!
always a great go to choice for us
We were seated outside as requested and it was a busy Friday night with lots of foot traffic to watch. Our server was very personable and the food was ready quickly. He checked back on us several times. The food was excellent. My husband and I both had the salmon which was seared perfectly. The asparagus purée was delicious. My only suggestion would be additional entrees to include shellfish. Great restaurant.
Delicious Italian fare in trendy contemporary environment.
Made the reservation for my daughter’s birthday, arrived at 7:30pm, it wasn’t busy, only 3 tables of customers! Server was not busy, though the music was loud! Because we have kids we placed the order right away including appetizers and entrees. It didn’t take too long for the appetizers to arrived, we finished the appetizers and waited for awhile, we haven’t seem the server for awhile not until 8:48pm I decided to follow up on the entrees and the server told us that the items weren’t ordered, there might be misunderstanding between us due to the loud music, but she could have check on us for over an hour. So we cancelled the entrees and went to another restaurant instead, the experience was bad
I had a business meal we had the brussel sprouts the octopus the broccolini the bruschetta the meatballs and some other dishes to share all all of our excellent
Amazing. You will not regret going. Get the Brussel sprouts. And the mussels.
The food was a little bit salty. Everything else was great.
Ness was awesome as a server and host at the restaurant!
I liked the location and the service was OK, however we had two pasta dishes, neither of us ate half of the meal. One was noodles and short ribs (may have been 4 small pieces with a lot of noodle. Had the cheese plate appetizer, its presentation looked like it was thrown together, with 4 large pieces of bread that needed to be smaller ( and more of them) to be adequate for the plate.
We loved our meal, especially the octopus appetizer.
Food was great! Service is very slow.
Waiter was friendly and provided very good service. The food was fresh and the gnocchi was delicious. We were there on Friday night July 5th and unfortunately could not get the mussels which I was looking forward too since they were not able to order on the holiday the day before. I liked the atmosphere. The bar area did get loud, but just made it lively. If you want quiet atmosphere this might not be it.
It was the 4th of July and there were maybe 20 people in the whole restaurant. The service was terrible. AWFUL. One server. So much so that even though we came a full 2 hours before the fireworks, we missed them. The food was just ok... mussels smelled fishy and weird so we got them comped. Pappardelle was just ok. The meat/cheese platter was fine. Loved the Brussels sprouts!! Overall will never be returning.
The atmosphere was unique and enjoyable. The service and food were excellent. We had a nice wine and the lasagna pizza and margherita pizza. Both were excellent. Ingredients were very fresh.
Great food. We tried a few dishes and every one of them were really good! We will be back!
Very nice place within walking distance to Petco Park . Great personal pizza!
I had a lovely table along the window. Ness was my server and he was very attentive and made a great recommendation...the mussels are the best I've had coast to coast recently. Mussels are my go to dish when trying a new restaurant and they were sooo tasty with just the right amount of spice.
I work downtown and I have drove past this place countless times. I also loved the way it looked from the outside. My co workers told me the mushroom toast was to die for and they were right! Everything we had tasted delicious. Prices are to be expected for downtown. I plan to come back to try the proscuitto brushetta.
Always love going to this place, the service is good and the food is fantastic. We stopped here for brunch and our server Amanda was amazing! She was super friendly and outgoing and made sure to stop by often enough to keep things refilled. The patio is dog-friendly too, which is always a nice perk! Be sure to try the avocado toast and get a grapefruit mimosa - totally delicious combo!
The venue is lovely great décor, good location with great energy. Good for larger groups though it was a bit loud which made it hard to hear at the long table. Our waiter was excellent: attentive but not obtrusive. The meals were hit and miss. The pizza and pasta dishes were fabulous. The meatballs and mussels not so much. Half the group loves or meal and the other half didn't care for it. Over although I would recommend.
This restaurant was a hit with my friends who are locals and they said they would return in the future. Service, food and overall value was great at Double Standard!
Food was very underwhelming...I do not understand the positive reviews. The service was extremely disappointing, particularly considering the restaurant was completely dead and low-energy on a Friday night. A friend recommended this place to me, and I was excited ... needless to say, I was terribly disappointed and will most definitely not be back.
The food, ambiance and our server Amanda was amazing. We were on a staycation and just happened to find this gem. We plan on going back and spreading the word!
Amazing entrees and small plates. Amanda our waitress was amazing as well gave great suggestions on drinks and food choices. The Brussels Spouts are incredible. One if the best meals I’ve had in San Diego.
Our waiter was horrible. We were seated in the farthest corner of the restaurant even though people were seated around everyone else (and there were seats clearly visible to the rest of the restaurant). We had to ASK our waiter if we could order a bread appetizer or something to which he followed and said “oh! Bread is complimentary”. He would then disappear for long periods of time.
Loved this place. First time here when we were going to the theatre, it was within walking distance and the food was delicious.
Great food & great value.
Food was spectacular! Fun ambience. A bit too loud but enjoyed ourselves.
The mussels are amazing! The service was great and the prices were reasonable for the Gaslamp Quarter.
inventive use of ingredients in their interesting and diverse menu. Good value in their wine list, which includes both Californian and international wines.
Service was attentive.
Cute place great service food was ok
Great dinner and atmosphere, as expected. Will certainly be back again, and again.
It's a nice place and the service is good, food is good also. I would recommend it as a 8/10, and changing the person that is serving and hosting is a must. I can't recall the gentlemen's name, he does try so very hard and is nice but he lacks the service fiber and is basically the kind of person that should not be in the hospitality business all together. Yet we had not a problem, it's just a vibe. We had the fresh pasta, good, not wow. Setting is quaint and comfy. Wine was good. Coffee was not available. All in all an 8/10.
Food was NOT good... Apps were ok at best but the main course which was simple items steak and pork chops were not good...
