Great food very nice atmosphere!
I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner. I made a res for the chef’s counter (you can’t see too much cooking action, it was fairly intimate). The dining area is downstairs, you go past the bar area when you enter and check in towards the back. The downstairs is all dimly lit and the counter seating is in its own area so it was perfect for a date night.
We each got the premium sake flight and we did the chef’s tasting menu. For $60 each the tasting menu had 10 dishes over four courses. Everything was delicious, I’m not a big on seafood but found myself enjoying everything. I’d say my favorite was the Kobe beef, it was perfectly cooked and had great flavor. A close second was the scallops, I had never had them before and I was surprised how soft and delicate they were. My least favorite was the Korean fried chicken, not because it was bad but because it seemed out of place. It had a nice lemony flavor but ended up reminding me of chicken fingers.
If you do the tasting menu make sure you go with an empty stomach— I was STUFFED by the end of dinner. After dinner you get mochi ice cream which was a nice sweet note to end dinner on.
I wish I had taken more pictures because the dishes were lovely but we were so hungry we kinda just dug in. I highly recommend this for a date night, if you’re not interested in stuffing your face like we did then there is the option of doing a tapas style dinner. Many of their dishes are inexpensive so you don’t necessarily have to break the bank either.
Seated 20 minutes after our 9pm reservation. You would think we would have at least had decent seating downstairs, when two tables are available upstairs by bar. We were put by the server station (TABLE 530), with server that was probably cut next on shift. Plus the lighting was bright. I would have rather sat upstairs than downstairs because I expected more of a wow factor. Being a party of three we right away ordered all the seafood section dishes, which BASICALLY was grilled seafood. Really no flavor. Then we took on two spicy rolls from the menu. I love seeing piped spicy aioli on sushi because it's not mixed with the fish inside the roll. You could either taste the freshness or not from the fish. We're definitely Seabass lovers. We ordered two of them, hoping that the dish would have character, appeal, and taste. What was on the plate was probably a 5-6oz piece of fish with a typical soy teriyaki glaze. The fish was cooled perfectly though. The only two dishes I would not order again are the scallops, and seafood meatballs. The scallops probably "in soy" where way to mushy and seafood meatballs no one liked. Service was okay and that's all I have to say about it. All in all, flavored just seemed off and the texture. I don't know how it works when Sampan has a lot of the same dishes, but I would give Sampan a 5star. Never had a bad experience and considering Sampan one of my favorite places to go too. Double knot was a disappointment for sure. FYI! I don't think I should be thinking about a beautiful bathroom more so than the food and service to a restaurant. DOUBLE KNOT- (2-3 out of 5)
My wife and I were blown away by Double Knot. We dined downstairs at the sushi counter, and decided to select the Chef's tasting menu option. After asking us a few questions, our server and the chef selected 10 small plates from their menu. It was amazing and perfectly portioned. The best part was being completely surprised by dishes like the edamame dumplings, which I would never have bothered to order on my own but was sooooooo glad they selected for me. Absolutely delicious and perfectly textured. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was perfect. I can't recommend this place enough! Oh, and we both enjoyed some excellent cocktails. My favorite was The Double Knot, which was a bourbon based cocktail.
Everything was exceptional. Meghan was amazing. Entire staff was super friendly. The only downfall was that I specifically switched my reservation as to not have counter seating- the 8:00 reservation was for “standard seating” and yet was still sat at the counter so I don’t know if OpenTable is to blame or what.
Almost a great experience! Chef's Tasting never disappoints - expensive but well worth the money. Fantastic place for a nice date or celebration.
Great restaurant, we went for our anniversary and were greeted with a glass of champagne! This was our second time and we’ll definitely be back. The only reason I didn’t give service 5 stars is that they are so attentive it can feel a little rushed.
Incredible experience all the way around!
Amazing in all aspects. Had an incredible experience that I’ve never had before!
I called the restaurant to let them know I was running 25 mins late. They said we hold reservations for 15 min. I asked for an additional 10. They said sure. When we arrived they had given the table away. This was a business dinner and a great let down. Given that I called (and they had my number) I was annoyed by this! We ended up sitting at the bar. Food and everything was great.
Had the chefs tasting menu. Firstly it was plenty of food and a great way to try out a lot of the menu. Everything was amazing except for the hangar steak which was over cooked. Sadly it was the last of our items so we ended on the only sour note of the evening. The rabitiyaki lamb chops were the best lamb chops I’ve ever had. I may never get over how good they were. Total was 100/person including tax tip and a few drinks. Would go again
Great food and great service with a unique menu served in a unique in environment made for a great business meal with clients.
Fantastic food and service. The ambiance downstairs is dark and trendy. The tasting menu is definitely the way to go. We were able to get 10 plates for the table and I loved all but 1. The duck scrapple bao bun is a must!
Some foods are a little bit salty, but a nice restaurant.
Standout dishes were the shrimp tacos, duck bao buns, pork belly, and all the sushi especially the uni. The service was excellent.
My favorite restaurant and my go-to for birthdays and anniversaries. I just celebrated my last birthday with the most amazing meal last weekend. I just had a baby so its been quite some time since I've enjoyed sushi and Double Knot was perfection. The tasting menu is always our choice for getting lots of variety and trying new things. The cocktails are the best. Our server, Maryjane H was amazing. Can't wait to go back
We had the Chef's tasting and it was pretty awesome and really reasonably priced. Definitely worth the short wait.
Overall the food was pretty great and the ambiance and server were amazing. Unfortunately we had a reservation for 9:30 but didn’t get sit down until 10:15. We were told we would get a discount or free appetizer but that never happened :(
Double Knot is one of Philly's finest. We got the tasting menu, and every course was outstanding and fun. The service was very attentive and professional.
Excellent food. It is very noisy but it is a fun scene to go out with friends or on a date. The service was a bit slow but likely because the restaurant is always extremely busy.
Great food, service, and ambiance. I will recommend sharing the plates since they all taste delicious and they are not that big. Everyone is super nice, and the restaurant setting is very authentic. Definitely, a must in Philly!
We were treated like royalty
We were also treated to two complimentary appetizers
Which was a treat
The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal
Exceptional service, delicious food and great vibe! One of the best in Philly.
Sushi is awesome. Drinks are creative, moderately strong. Must try the Kobe!!!!!!!!
Great fusion japanese food. A little on the pricier side, but very worth it for the quality of food. Try the kobe beef robotayaki, some of the best meat I've ever had. Crispy fried chicken was awesome as well, as was the sashimi and cocktails.
My dad and his business associate were in town for a conference and my boyfriend and I took them here for dinner. Everyone was blown away by the experience, food was incredible, service was wonderful, and the environment was perfect. Will be back again soon.
Got lucky with a seat downstairs at the counter. One of the best meals ever. Ordered omakase and was blown away by the quality of the fish, the flavors, the portions. Service was exceptional. What a treat!
Thanks for a great evening, awesome venue, great service.
Great looking place, food is occasionally great and always very good. A bit pricey for what it is.
Amazing food. We were visiting Philly and this was a spectacular find. Great service.
Had a really great experience at Double Knot. Walking into the restaurant through the hidden staircase in the back, you get a cool vibe like you're walking into an exclusive club or something. Really - everything from the ambiance to the service to the food (of course) was amazing. I will definitely return when I'm back in Philadelphia. There's a rather large variety to the menu that I think we could come back several times and never have the same experience. Most importantly: my fiance loved it. We sat at the counter, which I don't typically like, but the counter seating here is quite comfortable (I actually preferred it to table seating).
By the way - and maybe my view is skewed as I'm used to NYC prices - but I thought the price was incredible for the quality. I also thought portion size was perfect. I also seriously love that you can customize the tasting menu or leave it totally up to the chef.
Love it. Will be back. Will recommend to everybody I know.
The good and bad with double knot is definitely they're very extensive menu.
we did the 10 course tasting menu which I would recommend. dishes were creative and not too large. tapas style for the most part. Our waiter was great and service was generally very good but we did feel a bit rushed. food just comes at you and you don't always have a place for the dishes. Cocktails were also very nice.
We did the chef’s tasting menu. Food was delicious, but the pacing felt a little rushed. Not enough time to savor each course. Just a few more minutes between courses would have bed better.
Food at double knot is always great. Definitely go with the tasting menu. Only issue I have is every time I make a reservation we still end up waiting 45 minutes to be seated. Almost seems like a ploy to make you have a few drinks at the bar prior to your meal.
We had an exceptional time! Amazing service with great recommendations
