The food was awesome!! Atmosphere was cozy but high energy! Highly recommend for any occasion but especially for a date!
It is an amazing place. I really recommend it.
This was probably our best dining experience we’ve Ever had. The tasting menu is an awesome opportunity to try lots of goodies. Above all else, at least one of your party needs to order the Sea Bass and the chicken wings too! The service was phenomenal and the food was ridiculously delicious! I will be raving about Double Knot to anyone that will listen!
Unique take on Japanese, always very tasty and flavorful. Love the small plates. Favorites were duck scrapple (yes!) and lamb robatayaki. The yellowtail sashimi was heavenly.
Hands down best restaurant in philly.
I am writing this review after my third visit last night.
My first experience was good. We did the tasting menu, and while beautifully presented, I didn't think it was worth the $60 price tag. There was enough food, certainly, but the portions were TINY (small plates, I get it, but these were legit 1 -2 bite plates). The atmosphere was cool though, and the drinks were good, so I thought it was an overall good experience. 3.5/5
A few weeks later, I went again. This time, my dining partner and I ordered a la carte, and it definitely wasn't worth it. It ended up costing ~$45-50/person, plus drinks. We sat at a tiny cocktail table near the bar, and it was definitely cramped. 3/5
Last night, however, topped the cake. I went to celebrate an anniversary, and we booked a counter table, thinking that we could just get a drink or two (we had eaten at another place) and dessert. When I asked the waitress if we could do just that (2-3 drinks, a few desserts), she suddenly said that we couldn't sit there anymore, as the tables were "for customers who would like to enjoy the full dining experience". When I asked if we could sit at the bar instead, she said that the bar was full (which I had figured, hence why I had made a reservation), but that we could go BACK UPSTAIRS AND WAIT FOR A BAR SPOT TO BE OPENED (?!). At that point, I was just frustrated and annoyed. What was the point of making a reservation (done so that we WOULDN'T have to wait) if we STILL HAD TO WAIT?!
Then the manager came over, and reiterated the same thing. When I asked what she meant by "dining experience", she said "whatever that definition means to you". Uhhh....
Still, she insisted that we wait for a bar spot. Night ruined already by all this chaos, my partner decided he had had enough with this place and so we left.
Moral of the story? Don't make a res unless you are planning to drink AND eat a lot. Apparently you can't just go there to celebrate your anniversary with some drinks and dessert. 0/5
Food was phenomenal!!
Didn't really know what to expect, but was very pleased!!
We were blown away with the space and quality of food.
The food never disappoints and service is consistently excellent.
Out to dinner with our Drexel students for my husbands birthday. Such a great experience! Food was fabulous! Among the four of us we tried quite a few dishes and every one was better than the next! My daughter is vegan and a separate menu accommodated her needs and the choices were exceptional! Highly recommend! Our waitress could not have been nicer and explained everything perfectly and guided us through the menu. The manager visited our table to make sure everything was perfect and even gave me a lesson in using chopsticks. A wonderful night with my family at a lovely find in the city!
We did the tasting menu and allowed the chef to make our selections. This is the way to go.
This was our second visit to Double Knot, and I recently bought a generous gift certificate to this restaurant for a friend. We had a delicious meal of small plates and loved the food. NO problem there! But we ordered a bottle of wine from the menu, which listed it as an Amarone ( a type of wine made from partially dried grapes from a region in Italy) When the bottle arrived, we told the server that it did not look like an Amarone, but she insisted that it was. We drank it, although it was very mediocre and definitely not what we expected. When we looked more closely at the bottle, it was very clear that it was not an Amarone. We brought this to the server's attention and suggested that the wine list was misleading. We would never have ordered that wine otherwise. Then a "beverage consultant" came over and tried to give us some bullsh*t story about the region where the wine was made, but it was clear he had no idea what he was talking about. It was insulting. We looked up the price of the bottle they sold us for $62, it was about $10 in the state store. Quite a markup for a not-so-great wine. If we had just gotten an apology, we would have been happy. The way they handled their mistake left a bad taste in our mouths. I would not go back, even though the food was excellent. And I would tell anyone going there to not order the wine.
I went to Double Knot with my Mom for dinner after talking about going for a year and never getting the chance. We did the tasting menu and chose our 10 dishes since there were certain things we wanted to try. Each and every dish was INCREDIBLE. So much flavor and by the end of the meal we were stuffed. We even took home two whole courses and a small portion of a third we were so full. Don’t be fooled by the first couple of dishes being small; they get bigger and they are plentiful. This is definitely the most economical route to go if you’re hungry! We would absolutely recommend Double Knot to friends. This was the best meal we had both had out in a while. We plan to come back soon with my sister and step dad!
Best Chilean sea bass I ever had. Great service. The one host explained everything about the fish and where it came from. Amazing time.
Get the omakase and let the chef select or select one dish to share of 10 menu categories. Delicious and a good price. Excellent service too. Cocktails were just decent through perhaps it was a new bartender.
Everything was perfect!
Really great food and service. Nothing to complain about!
Excellent. 3rd time there and love it every time. Sit at the counter, bar, a table or the lounge. Try each one, they all make it a little different experience. They make great cocktails and a fantastic bullet old fashion.
Amazing restaurant. Excellent food and incredible service. Got to get the sea bass. It’s life changing!
Really great time and delicious food. Definitely will be back.
Food was delicious, vibe was cool, drinks were good. Only critique is that drinks took long to be made.
Small plates and meats are insanely good. Don't get entrees here
Share everything. Awesome ambiance also.
The tasting menu is always where it's at!
The tasting menu offered a lot of choices and everything we had was exceptional! This was probably the finest Asian food I have ever had. A few notable items were the Duck Scrapple Bao Bun, Yellowtail Sashimi, King Oyster Mushroom Carpaccio, and Broiled Seabass. Special drinks were amazing. Upstairs was very noisy but less so downstairs, still loud. There was an energetic vibe everywhere. The restaurant is very large - deceptive from outside.
Awesome food. Seafood was very fresh. Our server was knowledgeable. Chef’s tasting is the way to go. The tuna was divine
We had childhood friends visiting from out of town, and reserved Double Knot in advance because we'd heard wonderful things. We all have small children, so we booked 2 babysitters and headed out for a fun evening. Our reservation was for 8:15pm and we saw that we'd be five minutes late, and so in order to be respectful of the restaurant's time we called and let them know. They said no problem. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were told that our reservation had been pushed until 8:45 and we weren't seated until 9pm - even after speaking with the manager. After finally being seated, our order wasn't taken for another 20 minutes. The food was delicious, but we received such poor service that we will not be returning to Double Knot.
Best meal ever!! Highly recommend the chief’s tasting menu
What a great experience!! The food was delicious -- take the advise of the servers -- she gave us great suggestions and everything was so wonderful. We left sooooo full and happy!!
Our dinner at Double Knot was completely unexpected! The upstairs section looks like a nice hipster coffee bar, so when we descended the staircase into the lower level, I was shocked to find a super sexy, gorgeously lit old school Japanese speakeasy. Our service was incredible, and super accommodating for the gluten-free and vegetarian folks in our group, and the food was absolutely divine. If you've got a decent-sized group, try to book the candle grotto in the back--it was a stunning backdrop to an absolutely picture-perfect evening.
I had very high expectations for Double Knot and it surpassed them in all respects. The food was incredible, our waiter was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations, and all of the drinks we had were creative and well made and presented. The meal was also shockingly affordable for a fancy night out. We each had two drinks and split all of the food (and were happily full) and it came to about $50 per person (including a tip!).
If I could give the service 6 stars I would. We had a 9pm reservation but the table ahead of us was running a little slow. The manager came over and apologized for the wait (unnecessary as we had found a spot at the bar and gotten drinks) and when we sat down, they brought over a complementary "snack" that was one of the tastiest treats all night. Overall, my friends and I were blown away by the experience and I will absolutely be returning! Great job to Double Knot for being so well-rounded with exceptional food and service!
Yum. Again. Love Double Knot!
this was one of the best meals I've had in Philadelphia! Food was incredible and the service was superb. Definitely recommend the Tasting Menu and let the chef decide (with your input of course). I'd recommend without hesitation for both date night or small groups. Well done Double Knot!
Amazing hidden gem!!
We did the chef’s tasting menu, which I would highly recommend for a hungry group! We left our choices up to the chef and our waitress, but you are free to pick your 10 dishes. They were all delicious and we certainly left feeling full!
Excellent and knowledgeable service. Very interesting menu. Noise level ok. Only disappointment was the entree of hamachi—not much flavor, very small jaw, and somewhat dry. All other dishes were great.
This is my second time at Double Knot. I had another great dining experience. The food is incredible, the server was attentive and knowledgeable and made great suggestions. It has a wonderful bar with delicious cocktails and the downstairs dining room is comfortable and cozy. Everything is made to perfection. I will definitely return!
Loved the evening and food was outstanding...will go again soon.
This is Tapas Tokyo-style. Japanese and some Korean food in small plates. The menu can be intimidating. It is small plates and plenty of them. We opted for the tasting menu which is 10 small plates. Very filling - a little pricey but worth it. I highly recommend the Pastrami Pork Belly Bao (Steamed Bun) and the Shrimp Tacos (sounds mundane but it is surprising). But all of the plates we had were delicious.
And I should also mention how good the service was. Attentive, friendly, and super knowledgeable about the menu.
