Great food and atmosphere . A bit of a wait to be seated
We love Double Knot! This was our third time, and it is consistently wonderful. Fantastic ambience, excellent food - go for the tasting menu - it's creative, delicious, and always surprising! my only slight complaint is that even with a reservation there's sometimes a wait. but it's well worth it when you go down to the cave of wonders!
Over all good food and great service enjoy the vibe
The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the food was outstanding!
Double Knot is a cool concept and alluring atmosphere that adds to the dining experience. The friendly staff is great. However, I feel like the experience stops there. The food is middle of the road, nothing too special as you could find better robatayaki at other Japanese izakaya. There are some good items like the black cod fried rice, and wagyu sashimi/nigiri but the selection is very limited.
I would have loved to see more unique sushi options. Drinks are by the glass, including iced tea...what what!?! Are you freakin’ kidding me???
So unfortunately, I’d take someone here to experience it once but not a place to keep returning/frequent...especially when it’s not friendly to the pocket book either 😂. The dinner check for our party of 4 was about $800.
Excellent food and our server Dana was over the top friendly and attentive. We had a great time with friends and would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
The waitress was excellent!!!!
Fantastic food, amazing service, great drinks. We had a bit of a long wait even though we had a reservation but the manager noticed and immediately corrected it. Props to the service staff at Double Knot, they were fantastic. Additionally, the ambiance was very cool and has a speakeasy feel to it. The food was also equally as good.
I had not been to Double Knot for quite some time. All of the dishes we sampled this time were disappointing. The mushroom gyoza was too hard and dry on the outside. The whole fish was uninspired. Even the brussel sprouts were unappealing: they were not crisp enough on the outside and were not seasoned in a tasty way. Based on our meal, Double Knot is no longer serving top-notch food.
Our first visit to this popular restaurant did not disappoint. The ‘old club” atmosphere and decor is different and suits the place. We sat at a reserved lower level counter area with a clear look into the central kitchen and its bustling activity. Our server Ryan was skilled, very well informed about the menu and its preparation, and eager for us to enjoy our meal. A friendly manager also circulated the floor during our meal and stopped twice to chat and ask our opinions. We chose the tasting menu and ended up with way more food than we had expected. We left with enough leftovers for another meal. On balance the food is excellent and arrives as it is ready, not in the order it was ordered from the menu. Both of us agreed on our 3 favorite dishes which were the pork jowl yakitori, the crab udon soup, and the black cod fried rice. Fried tofu cubes were excellent and the jalapeño slices with them were sufficiently lively. We were impressed with the meticulously boned crispy fried whole branzino but thought its accompanying condiments could have a bit more punch to them. The sliced duck was slightly more done than we expected, and it was somewhat bland. All in all, we had a great meal and look forward to a return visit.
Great food and amazing service for my first time!
We were excited to be able to eat downstairs - the vibe is really cool - low lighting, different seating areas. The noise level was enjoyable because you could hear other folks but not so loud as to be intrusive. Our server was very helpful and informative in answering our questions about various dishes as we made our choices for the 10 course tasting. Be prepared, the food is delivered as it's ready so you will often have a couple of dishes to navigate at a time. We were at a small bar table which meant we sometimes had to move plates to fit everything. That's a small inconvenience when the food is so stellar - standouts were Tuna Rice Cracker, Shrimp Taco, Pork Jowl and Black Cod Fried Rice!
Had dinner there after a Pennsylvania Ballet performance. Dinner is served as a continuous series of small dishes served family style. Choosing those dishes is a challenge and the advice of our waiter was crucial and resulted in a very enjoyable evening. Of special note is that we were still feasting very close to closing time but never felt pressured to leave. A warning that the kitchen was closing but that was about it. Definitely a "do again".
Wonderful in every way.
Now I’m fulfilling the ridiculous minimum character requirement.
Birthday celebration. We’ll defiantly be back! Great dining experience overall. Worth the effort trying to make a reservation. This is a very popular restaurant.
The Double Knot was a true dining experience. Our server was fantastic as well as all of the other servers who assisted with all of the wonderful meal selections. I would definitely recommend the tasting menu. While it is not a place we would go regularly for a special occasion it is a real treat!
Double Knot came recommended by a friend on the West Coast and we weren't disappointed. It's only been a couple days since we've been there and I'm craving it. Each dish was seemingly better than the last. Go in with an open mind and try some things you may not normally have. You won't be disappointed. Highly recommend.
Food and service was amazing. The lighting made it very difficult to read the menu
Treated us to champagne and mochi at the end for our five year anniversary
It’s our go to birthday spot ... took us 1.5 hours to get there but worth every sec!
Truly excellent, delicious variety of dishes in a fun, low key, yet lively atmosphere. Knowledgeable servers and exceptional service overall. On top of our list to eat in Philly.
The flow of food is when they want to serve. Our food came out randomly and orders were combined onto plates.
Went for my husbands birthday and we had the most wonderful time! The service was excellent as well as the food experience. We got to get some happy hour apps* right before our dinner reservation and the staff treated us like VIP when transferring us to our dinner table. Smooth and efficient operation. *Seating is limited in the cafe because its first come first serve. We were very lucky to find the last two seats available!
High quality food with a very nice price point. Value. This is one of my favorite places in the city.
Food was amazing. Service was mediocre. Basement level was ICE COLD. Super uncomfortable, which is why this is not a five-star review. I was freezing.
We had an amazing dining experience, highly recommend the chef tasting, creative cocktails, management is extremely attentive.
I didn’t know what to expect when the only availability was bar seating but I went with a friend of mine from work. It was very intimate, so a good place to take a date. The food was fabulous. We decided to do the chef’s special and let them decide on what to serve per course. The chose well and there was more than enough food. Glad we went here and would definitely go again.
Incredible experience as always. Continues to be the best and best run restaurant in Philly right now.
I loved it! The atmosphere was enticing and lit by candle light which made the whole place smell so good. The food was delicious, especially the cheese curds. Service was informative and kind. I’m looking forward to going back!
We celebrated our 25th Anniversary at Double Knot & it was perfect~ The vibe, food, attentive service, and overall hospitality made our night really special. The Double Knot cocktail, Edamame Dumplings, Oyster Sushi, Maitake Mushroom Robatayaki, Wasabi Yellowtail Roll, & Shrimp Tacos were our faves, but we loved everything else!
New fav !!! Loved everything from the drinks to the food!
So good. best place in Philadelphia. The room is so cool
It was one of the best meals we have had. Made reservations to go back.
First time visit on a recommendation from a friend. Really cool atmosphere, would have never known it was there and that large downstairs. Did the tasting menu and it was great. Manny our server was great too!
We went for our anniversary. Excellent experience. I was confused because on open table it lets you pick bar/counter seating so I thought that was a reservation in the bar area for happy hour. However the manager was wonderful she understood the misunderstanding helped us secure a table for happy hour for our anniversary and it was greatly appreciated. One of our few Saturday night dates since our son was born a few months ago and we really appreciated the gesture and making sure we had a great anniversary dinner. Our server Joshua was also fantastic. Great food, great service, and now we will definitely be back as often as we can!
Raw dishes and sort ribs/vegetables on robataki menu were fantastic. Weak dishes were duck bibimbop and duck gyoza. Server saw that we weren’t eating them and took them off the bill. Would definitely go back as most items were fantastic.
Dinner with parents
Had the Chef’s tasting for two. Understandably, food comes out as it’s prepared, however, it’s so much more enjoyable if it’s paced, especially with a tasting menu or a multi-course meal. Here it almost felt like a race as all 9 of my dishes came out within about 10-15 minutes and I had to eat fast so I could make space for the next plate on the tiny table. They really don’t take the table/speed into consideration when serving nor plating the dishes, which is very disappointing as a major part of dining at a restaurant is the experience itself. My husband got his dishes way past me, not at all enjoyable. Didn’t think the ultimate $210 for two was worth it due to the experience, otherwise food is 4/5.
