Double Knot Ratings and Reviews
As usual, Double Knot did not disappointment! Began with a smokey craft cocktail...the Double Know. Excellent flavor. The tasting menu was fabulous...every dish was pure perfection. More than ample servings ... salmon sashimi, yellow fin, scallops, steak kabobs, crispy brussel sprouts, Chilaean sea bass, perfectly prepared duck breast with rice, etc. I highly recommend both Double Knot and the tasting menu.
Unique spot with a nice ambience and a very lengthy & creative menu. Staff was friendly and knowledgable. If you are going to be seated at a counter seat, make sure it is away from the door. During the colder months the first few counter seats are a bit cold & drafty. The main restaurant dining area is very nice and the back bar is stylish and fun. Double Knot offers one of the most exotic culinary adventures in the city so be sure to check it out!
The food is always standout here. Always. Atmosphere is great. Unfortunately this visit, the food pace was far too aggressive. I get that the style is serve as prepared, but for a 10 course tasting menu the first five should not come all at once. It compromises the whole experience. It was clear the volume and demand here drives a turn the table mentality, but from an experience standpoint I’d suggest being a bit more cautious...
Everything we ate was delicious. Many different items to taste. First time and it won't be the last time.
We need to do a better job in understanding how to order and will the next time. The small dishes are truly small. Sort of two bite samples.
So we ordered in 2 rounds , but it worked out.
I think the maitre d desk could have been handled more gracefully. We made a reservation in early January for Valentine's Day at 9:30pm (you would think a pretty safe spot). When you have a 9:30 rezzie and you're told you will have to wait because there are no tables available, this indicates bad management of earlier seating. Messaging could have been delivered in a more customer centric fashion, more empathetic, perhaps we could have been offered a drink, but were told they didn't know when a table would become available and to go look for a seat at the bar. Ultimately wasn't that long a wait, and the night ended up great, but front end handling of the situation knocked us out of a great mood. A little too much preciousness and arrogance. Best things about Schulson and Starr restaurants are their maniacal focus on making the customer happy with very little hip restaurant cynicism. Felt a bit of the latter attitude that night. Again, in the end, though, a great night, great food, great wait staff (particularly our server) and great ambience.
Took my fiance here for an early Valentine's dinner. Everything was great! We arrived early and during happy hour so we started with drinks at Sampan's bar. Happened to stroll past Double Knot and spot two seats available at the bar. We moved there with our drinks and the Sampan bartender was kind enough to bring over the edamame dumplings we ordered. Requested we be sat downstairs a little ahead of our reservation since we were early and again they accommodated us. We ordered the 10 course chef tasting and it was amazing! The A-5 Kobe sushi was unlike anything I've had before (even different from the Kobe robatayaki which is also delicious) and the Salmon specialty sashimi was delectable. Also, all the cocktails were very well made as always. Really can't say more about this place other than I consistently experience a high quality of service, food, and drink that keeps my coming back.
This was our second meal at Double Knot. The ENTIRE reason we came back was for the sushi omakase tasting menu. The first time we went, a couple months ago, my husband and I shared this omakase and he loved it so much it he wanted to get it again and not have to share.
Well, we were seated and discovered they got rid of it. Even though we told the waitress that was the entire reason we came to the restaurant, we were given only a sweet “I’m sorry.” We were very disappointed with this news.
We decided to order a la carte off the menu. The sushi and other dishes we ordered were delicious, but I am disappointed to say $250 later, my husband and I were still hungry.
No courtesies were offered, in fact, my husband ordered 1 uni sushi and 2 were brought to the table. We were charged for 2 which we didn’t dispute since he had eaten it anyway. We also ordered 2 extra egg sushi and was told the kitchen had ran out. It was only 9pm on a Friday night. The place was packed. It was shocking they were subbing out of items.
My overall rating is based on where staff tried to seat us - at the children’s table situated next to the kitchen door. No thank you. Our only other choice was to be jammed into the lounge area tables which look attractive in comparison.
Be sure to question your seating assignment.
The food was great and the service was great once we sat down. We had a reservation for 2 people. There were 2 people in front of us when we got there any they did not have a reservation. They were seated before us and we ended up waiting about 20 to sit down. We were told we had to wait longer so we can get at a table, rather than the sushi bar. When the hostess took us downstairs to seat us, she sat us at the sushi bar. We did complain and ended up getting a better table, although not ideal.
The food was amazing and our server was very good. We tried several different items from the menu. Much less expensive than the tasting menu. I cannot wait to go back!
Very good food, both fish and robatayaki. Small portions, try to order some, decide what’s best for you, and then order some more.
Table area downstairs is better than the ground floor, the best table there is the round one on the podium, good for up to 7 people.
My review will not be the first review you read here that says how amazing this food is at Double Knot!!! My husband and I absolutely loved everything we ate!! We did the chefs tasting menu...but we chose everything we ate except dessert (which was probably my only disappointment). Every course was fantastic!!!!
The service, by Sam(antha) was as outstanding as the food. She went out of her way to “extra chill” our white wine the way we like it. I also had an iced tea that she just kept refilling without me asking. Her recommendations as we were ordering were spot on as well.
You have to check this place out! The decor alone makes it worth it!!
Absolutely amazing food and service. The tuna with spicy aoili is to die for. My only complaints would be finding the place, the sign was very small and I walked right past it, also I was seated less than two feet away from a stranger and it was pretty noisy but overall I'm still happy with my dining experience.
Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Our reservation was for 9pm and we didn't sit until about 9:20 - so because we had to wait, they gave us 3 plates on the house which is just incredible hospitality. I told them ahead of time it was an anniversary dinner and they had champagne waiting for us at the table, also on the house. We did the 10 course Chef's tasting menu and were not disappointed. Service was also 5 stars. Can't wait to go back.
Double Knot’s street level floor is busy! Good vibes for younger clientele. It’s a fun place. We sat downstairs and loved the atmosphere there. Our server Danielle was outstanding. I have to say that the ambiance and service were better than the sushi. We liked all of the food a lot, but the sushi was not my favorite. The rice overshadowed the fish and the spicy tuna didn’t seem to have much tuna in it. The bao buns are amazing, as well as the meats. I also loved the tuna under the Cold section!
Second time I’ve gone this week, a friend brought me the first time . The food is delicious and there is a wide variety on the menu. The lamb chop and Kobe beef
Skewers are incredible . The tuna rice cracker reminds me of a place in New York that served the same and it was just as good ! The Brussels sprouts are on the salty side, not a big fan of those. The edamame dumpling soup is phenomenal ! I also liked the sushi too, extremely fresh!
Simply put, WOW! Wish I'd taken the advice to get here a year ago. Excellent fresh ingredients and compositions. Not a wasted calorie in the meal - both from the sense that everything is superb and there are no "fillers" on the plate. The chef's tasting menu was an excellent decision. We were not disappointed with a single item. Excellent tuna poke and the sea bass entree was probably the best piece of fish I've ever had, and I eat a lot of fish. Can't wait to get back.
