About Dos Urban Cantina
First opening doors in late 2015 in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, Dos is a partnership between husband and wife team, Chef Brian Enyart (14-year veteran of Frontera Grill/Topolobampo) and Pastry Chef Jennifer Jones Enyart (Charlie Trotter’s, Topolobampo).
Inspired by the boldness and bounty of Mexico, the menu is an original interpretation of Mexican cuisine that embraces contemporary flavors and ingredients.
Since opening, the restaurant has been named one of Chicago Magazine’s Top 5 “Best New Restaurants” and a recipient of The Michelin Guide’s 2017 Bib Gourmand. Dos has received a multitude of recognitions from the Chicago Tribune, including the 2017 Reader’s Choice Award winner for Best Happy Hour, 2017 Critic’s Choice Award winner for Pastry Chef of Year, as well as being hailed as “the most important Mexican restaurant since Topolobampo” by Phil Vettel.

Dos Urban Cantina Ratings and Reviews
Very creative Mexican cuisine. This is not surprising, considering that the chefs are Frontera alums. My friend and I really enjoyed everything we tasted, especially the tamal tots, octopus and chicken in adobo. The dips and chips and tres leche cake were fine, just more ordinary. This place is an amazing value. During happy hour, their excellent margaritas are just $5, as are the appetizers. But really, it's an excellent value anyway, considering the creativity and quality of the food. Two margaritas, two appetizers and two entrees were just $70. And it wasn't hard to find free street parking very close to the restaurant on a weeknight. I definitely will be back.
Exceptional all around. We left and my husband had to listen to me going on about how good everything was for the entire walk home. Now several weeks later, and I'm still eager to go back to try some new things, but also to revisit some of the great things we tasted. Fantastic cocktails. The dishes all were wonderfully seasoned and had little twists that elevated them beyond my expectations. We got the salmon tartare, sweet corn tamal with a wonderfully smokey tomato salsa, seared pork belly, and braised short rib with a nopal salad, and I would recommend all of them. I wish I had more of the nopal salad. The dish was perfectly balanced, it didn't need more salad, but it was so good, I would have happily ordered that on its own as a side. Also, if you find yourself in the same predicament we encountered when trying to choose a dessert, let me just say that you probably won't regret ordering both the chocolate cake and the coconut tres leches.
This location was great, I️ was looking for an authentic Mexican brunch... (just Mexican good with champagne!) I️ read another review and they made it seem like it was a buffet but this was not the case. The have a small list of typical Mexican food with a few new dishes up their sleeves. I️ tried the shredded beef sopa and it was great, just wished it was a little More spicy and flavorful. I️ also got one of their specials, it was chorizo with 2 fried eggs and a corn/hominy mix ... I️ originally went there for the chilaquiles but changed my mind with the special... I️ will definitely go back, this is great for large groups and people of all ages and sizes.
I've been to Dos Urban several times. They really do have the best margaritas in town. Awesome guac as well. The food is good, although honestly this time not as good as I'd remembered. A few of the dishes came out of the kitchen luke warm. I had the vegetarian main option, which had a nice little cook and was good. My dining partners had the octopus, good, but cool, the chicken wings - a bit too sweet and sticky for me - and the desert was just fair.
I was disappointed that a couple of the dishes I've had in the past are off the menu - the wonderful tuna tostada and the whole fish. Maybe they'll be back next time.
The service is very attentive.
Our table of four shared a variety of small plates and a couple of entrees. The variety and adventurous nature of the menu were a delight. We enjoyed the cocktails, beer selection and desserts. Plus, our waiter was terrific. The Happy Hour value menu made it a treat we can repeat!
Dos never disappoints! This time, I brought some out of town pals, and they were very impressed. Food was delicious, and our server was one of the best I've had in recent memory. Standouts were the Lofty Skies cocktail, Shrimp Taquitos, Brussels Sprouts, Carnitas (of course), and the Date Pudding. Can't wait to come back!
Not your typical Mexican restaurant. We had the shared plates which are much more like tapas than traditional Mexican fare. The emphasis was on creating unique combinations. Highlights included the raw scallops with chile, octopus and pork belly but everything was good or better. The drinks were likewise creative and interesting. Highly recommended for those who like to try new things.
Delicious food with many enticing dishes and a great menu format for sharing and trying multiple smaller or medium size dishes. This makes it a great option for family or casual gatherings.
Despite the fact that the place was not very full, the service was quite slow and it was difficult to get the attention of our server when we needed something. Otherwise the service was friendly and competent.
Food was excellent. Service was excellent. We were there at 5:00 pm on a Sunday with two kids. It wasn't real crowded when we arrived, but by the time we left it was filling up. We had several of the small plates and one person had an entree. It was all delicious. Our server also knew what wines to recommend.
Very good small plates, and generous portions. Sauces moles, etc. excellent and unique. Good direction from server regarding portion sizes and appropriate amounts to order per person. Very nice cocktail choices. Small plates are better than the large (chicken/mole dish chicken ) we ordered and a better value. Only negative was dessert. They tout themselves for having wonderful dessert however I think they overthink these items. Combination of flavors did not work for us. The apple crisp was loaded with crisp and not enough apples. The "sugar" pie was odd, more like a cream pie. We did not have the famous chocolate cake which is suppose to be wonderful.
The food was good, well prepared and fresh. I didn't love the 'risotto' or the 'gnocchi', but the salmon was spectacular! The two fishes I didn't love could have been better conceived. A lot of the issue was the 'dude' waiting on us. Not a very good menu guide at all. And mostly a step late all night. Overall I would definitely go back. Quality drinks, food and people. Maybe just a slightly off night?
Very disappointing food, 3 out of 5 dishes tasted like mush and had texture of mush. No subtlety or distinction of flavors. Even seasonal ingredients could not be appreciated. Completely lacking in eye appeal. Best dish was the mushrooms.
Wine was quite good and well priced. Nice atmosphere, nice server.
The temperature inside the dining area was unbearable. It was extremely hot. I'm not sure if the a/c was broken or if they were trying to mimic the temperature in the Mexican desert. It made it difficult to enjoy our meal which played a major factor in this review. We just wanted to hurry up and get out of there!
happy hour was the bomb! the$5 margs were yummy and the half priced apps were sooooo good. The ceviche and wings were my fav. 10/10 I will definitely go back for another happy hour. Wish i couldve been sat outside, 45 minute wait bc its so nice out there. Inside was still nice too though!
The food was different, in a good way. The carne asada was a little too raw for my taste and it lacked sabor. I would have loved to try more small plates but we had a tiny table, don't think it would have fit. Our waitress was great and also gave us a heads up when she saw that we might order too much. They have a mezcal selection in a menu that was not readily available so be sure to ask for it if you are interested in more than just beer and cocktails. Overall it was a great dining experience with very good food. Fun space too.
This was my second visit. Enjoyed it even more the second time with just 3 of us. Sat in a cozy corner back booth. Good tunes. Every dish was flat out delicious. High end cuisine but so approachable. Our family is not keen on shared food but this place works for that. Fantastic cocktails. Recommend Ceviche, grilled mushrooms with chestnut cornbread, mole, carnitas. Dessert is so good
Super tasty! Would definitely recommend. We ordered the beautiful scallops, the brown butter pancakes (covered in fresh fruit and a delicious brown butter sauce), carnitas (with black beans and homemade corn tortillas), and the chilaquiles (spicy and fresh, great portion).
