Dos Caminos – Meatpacking Ratings and Reviews
It was my first time at Dos Caminos. I made reservations earlier that day, the restaurant was pretty busy when we got there but we were seated immediately, there was no wait. The food was delicious, the drinks were so tasty and music was lively. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. It was a great night. I will definitely go back.
Definitely not the same service and food as in the beginning, rice that was served with beans was completely undercooked and inedible, butternut squash in the vegetable taco dish was undercooked and inedible because it was halfway raw. When we told our waiter the rice was underdone, he informed us everyone else seemed to say the same thing and there was nothing that could be done and the cook did not cook it throughly. A restaurant with a kitchen should have the capacity to recook a simple, dish to be re-served to the customers. Unacceptable and never will go back to any of the locations.
Ordered the shrimp quesadilla and it was pretty good till I started chewing on the peel left on the shrimp which was only half way done. I informed the waitress and she said I'll take it to the manager, she came back about 10-15 minutes later and just said sorry about that, did not offer to replace the meal or take it off the bill. I had to ask to speak to the manager about removing it, who did not bother to come out and they only discount it in half. The drinks were great and we enjoyed ourselves. But not big on customer service do not think I will be back.
Save your money, go to a Chili’s. Seriously, the food is mediocre and expensive. More than $20 for guac that is not more than 2-3 avocados cut up. Not much adventurous on the menu. My shrimp quesadilla was like the “pizza” I make for my son with pasta sauce and cheese when there’s nothing left in the fridge. Oh, and don’t hope that getting buzzed from the drinks will distract you from the food: they are served in thick glasses with lots of ice to give the impression that your money is actually buying you something.
This was our second time there and the experience was exactly the same. I live in the neighborhood and am aware of the better options. Try Rocking Horse on 8th Ave (worth the money, more festive, local) or Benny’s Burritos on Greenwich for basic but good and better drinks.
We’ve been here before in the summer. Sitting outside had a much better atmosphere. We were upstairs and there wasn’t much atmosphere at all, baby’s crying and teenagers laughing. Not my kind of dinner vibe. Food good. Service slow and some items not correct. We over ordered even though we asked if we had. We had to have take out because we ordered far too much.
The service was excellent. We had limited time for dinner as we had to make a show. The server was very accommodating. Margaritas are great and the food is pretty good-and comes out quickly. Downstairs is VERY loud, but our table upstairs allowed for conversation.
I love the food especially the guacamole. I have been to various dos caminos locations. This one the music was disco and loud. Wouldn’t go back there. Asked for it to be turned down. They did their best, but not good enough.
Loud music detracts from me enjoying conversationS. I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO YELL.
I ate brunch here another time and really enjoyed it. Food and ambience were all good. This time I made reservation online and was shown to the worst table in the restaurant. It was in a very busy area by the bathroom though lots of other tables were free. The food seem overpriced compared to brunch and everything arrived stone cold. Very disappointing.
Great welcome however pretty much everything after this was flawed. Mid starter my plate was removed from the table (Yes I had food on my plate). Mains were sent back as we had only just began our starter. Mains were returned cold as they had now been sitting in the kitchen for 15 minutes. (Tacos that have been sitting around for 15 mins become soggy and inedible, incase you wondered and placing plates under a heater does not work for longer than a few minutes)
Having spoken to the manager regarding these events I advised him to decide what the best course of action would be, to which he gave us all a taster cocktail each and 3 deserts to share, which at this point I thought, that's good. When I asked for the bill, the manager said to me he had removed the deserts from the bill. (FYI - I didn't order the deserts, so why would I pay for them) There was absolutely no discount on the food, even though no one had really eaten. To end the story, no tip was given and the waiter was extremely upset. He followed us outside and explained how we should conduct ourselves in the US. Please bear in mind half of our party were American.
Bottom line to end this wonderful review is that the venue is lovely, the food had it been hot would have tasted amazing and had the team communicated a bit better the above would have never been written. Unfortunately the excuse of being in a busy big city no longer works. Good customer service costs nothing.
