The Dorset Inn is one of our favorite places to dine in Vermont. We frequently come in the fall and winter. We attended the Book Club play at the Dorset Theatre Sunday afternoon and then had a 5:00 pm dinner. Not far from Scotia, NY, just a 1.5 hour drive home on the backroads.

Though we've dined here over many years, this was our first visit post redecoration and the room looked terrific. We were greeted promptly by Natalie who took a drink order and then let us slowly peruse the menu. I was the only one who had a first course, Vichyssois that was the perfect viscosity not too think, nor too thin with an excellent flavor profile. Mains proved to be adequate in size and composition to satisfy everyone. That said, we had enough time and appetite for dessert. The bread pudding was a knock out and made the rounds quickly until fully consumed. We had mentioned that we were going to theater and with perfect timing Natalie appeared with our check. Brava!

10 out of 10. Sophia our server, the staff inside the inn…The food was amazing. I have celiac disease so they were more than accommodating and very well-versed about gluten-free and wheat free questions. They have the most adorable gift shop area with mugs, maple syrup, candles all made locally. Cannot wait to go back. Pet friendly as well.

Frankly I was disappointed. Our waitress took forever to bring our drinks, then again to take our order, then again to bring our main dish, then again to bring back my card. I had to get up twice to remind her that we were waiting. I had the duck as a main course. The plate looked very full but unattractively so. The confit was not a confit. The breast was small pieces of duck, and I’ve never seen that size on a duck breast before. Duck is my favorite meat so I’m familiar with it. The green beans still had strings attached (sorry for the pun). All together, a big disappointment. We won’t return.
