Doretta Taverna & Raw bar Ratings and Reviews
This is my third meal at Doretta and, unlike the first two, it was a disappointment. I went for a business lunch and unfortunately my food was inedible. I ordered a salad and there was so much vinegar in the dressing I had a hard time eating it. I would have sent it back but I was with a client and did not want to create an issue. The noise level and ambiance were perfect for a business lunch and the service was very good - attentive but not intrusive. Based on my first two visits, I would return, and will chalk this last time up to a bad day for the kitchen.
We came late on a Monday night so there we just a few people there which took away from the ambiance. However the food and service did not disappoint. The menu was not extensive but we found plenty to accommodate our fickle taste.
I look forward to going back during prime time when we can enjoy what I imagine to be a lively place...
Will not be returning. Servers place food on the table that we had not ordered and in one case took it away to serve to the intended table. Fussy Mediterranean food. Convenient to Boston Park Plaza Hotel, but Legal Seafood, the franchise! Was much more value for better food.
I have been to the restaurant twice and while the food is good, unfortunately both times unseen events have somewhat muted my dining experience. The first time was last summer and the air conditioning broke down and this time the wine by the glass I wanted ran out. Still the waitress was very helpful in suggesting others. I wish they had more wines by the glass.
This was our second time and we would not have come back if the food and service had been anything other than outstanding. The sea bass was phenomenal and the pan seared shrimp, divine. Our first visit we didn’t have reservations and the hostess was less than cordial but we waited and it was worth it. The food genre says Greek but it’s really a fresh take on old school dishes and the chef is doing a magical job. See you guys next time we are in Boston!
the food was delicious, with a number of great takes on classic Greek menu itmes like moussaka. The fish dishes were excellent, and the service perfectly paced. We had a wonderful evening at this place with an informal , taverna - like atmosphere. We will definitely return.
ELegant ambiance. Great cocktail menu. Interesting variety of food with twists on Greek food. Nice service. Bit issue is it is pricey! Pricey especially for Greek food. (E.g $14 for a few bites of squid in chickpeas). I was on an expense account and grateful for that (especially since I used valet parking). But I would recommend for those for whom budget is not a big deal.
Food was delicious. My husband and I split the octopus appetizer. It was really really good. The texture was perfect...tender with a crisp char on the outside. Octopus can be a bit slimy/chewy on the outside and this was not that. It was very tender and great flavor. I had the mushroom moussaka which was very good....lots of mushrooms that still had integrity....not chopped up into small bits. My husband had the chicken and he loved it. It was statler style...crisp on outside, very moist and tender and big on flavor. I would go back. My husband had some craft beers. I had bourbon old fashion. My drink was slightly watered down....but accompanied with luxardo cherries which I appreciated and a slice of orange . The atmosphere was energetic,.a bit loud but you could have a conversation with your company.
Another great experience at Doretta! We hadn't been in around a year, and we were saying "why has it been so long??" I think this is in our top three restaurants for Boston. They've changed the menu a bit and everything is DELICIOUS! It's such a treat to get away from the types of cuisine that you find in Boston, now we just have to get here more often!
I have eaten lunch at Loretta Taverna a couple of times, and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was my first time eating dinner there.
My wife and I chose their Family Menu, a 4-course option that cost $65 per person. This was a fair price for what we received in return:
- 2 'snack' portions: whipped feta and one other I cannot remember, served with tiny home-made pita triangles. Yummy!
- 1 salad comprised of tomato, cucumber, olive oil and possibly some herbs of one kind or other. I could have eaten this salad all night. It was exceptional.
- grilled octopus appetizer. I don't know if this is typically included, but we order all the time when we come for lunch and find it to be one of the best things on the menu. It's THAT good.
- A grilled fish entree. I don't know what type of fish it was, but it was white and a thin cut. It was well-done, so the light amount of skin was crispy. Yum yum!
- A lamb shank atop some kind of risotto pasta thing. Excuse my descriptions. "risotto pasta thing" sounds bad, but it was actually very tasty. The lamb shank was not as hot as everything else, and is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars for food. It was tasty, but being warm versus hot meant I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have done.
- Dessert with pistachio and lemon ice-cream, alongside some cake. I love ice-cream, so that is what I ate. I didn't pay much attention to the cake, though my wife seemed to enjoy it.
The restaurant offers valet parking ($19), which I paid (cash only) at the end. We provided our valet ticket when paying our bill. The car was out front within 2-3 minutes. Although there are public parking options in the area, my wife was not wearing walking shoes, so we liked the convenience of the valet parking.
Bottom line, Doretta Taverna is a great restaurant, and one that we look forward to returning to again in the future. I will ask for my lamb to come out hot next time.
We enjoyed our visits to Via Matta and Alta Strada and our first visit to Doretta was a real pleasure. We had a hard time choosing which dishes to try and decided on the eggplant spread, figs stuffed with feta, grilled octopus, and spinach pie. Everything was delicious. We were expecting to want at least one main dish to share, but we also knew we wanted dessert, and the small plates were perfectly satisfying. We shared the pistachio baklava which was the perfect end to the meal. The host and wait staffs were amazing. Friendly, professional, knowledgeable, attentive. We'll be back.
Doretta Taverna has become our favorite go to restaurant for its consistently good Mediterranean food (love the mezze small plates to share), great white and rose sangrias and wines, warm and welcoming ambiance and wonderful service -
We appreciate being able to make reservations for the outdoor dining and indoor space as well.
Came in for a relaxing date night that turned into a 3 hour memorable evening. Food was fantastic, beautifully plated, fresh and flavorful. From the Scallops to the Lamb meatballs, the Seabass and Lamb Shank were cooked perfectly. We had the Baklava for dessert and I will make sure to have it again next time we come in. The ambiance is great for a date night to a business meeting, or even a family dinner for a nice night out. I will definitely be back and look forward to seeing what is on the menu this coming season. In regards to staff, they go above an beyond and truly have a great team in place!! It was a great night out.--Also right next to the Boston gardens so beautiful walk afterwards or before dinner. Highly recommend- you will not be disappointed.
I was really excited to try this place because it's local to where I work. The menu looked great, Greek tapas style food. The server was really attentive at first and then service really slowed as our meal went on. The inside of the restaurant wasn't crowded though there were many tables seated outside. Three of our dishes arrived promptly and were pretty good to eat however we were missing two item. When a different server came over to bus our table I asked about the other two dishes we ordered. They seemed surprised, but went to find out what was going on and had the food delivered in a reasonable amount of time considering it seemed to have been forgotten. When we finished our food, we asked for our check and waited 30 minutes to receive it. While we were understanding about the wait on the food, it was really disappointing and compounded a negative experience to wait that long to leave the restaurant. I don't think I'll be recommending this place to others or coming back.
We really enjoyed the food (each dish was great) and the service from the greeting at the door to the bar to our table. We were there early and had most of our time in quiet to moderate noise level. However, there was something going on at the bar and it got loud. Overall, excellent dining experience.
This is a fabulous Greek restaurant - upscale and perfect for entertaining clients. The food is absolutely delicious, and the service is attentive and professional. I would come here with my spouse for an anniversary or a special occasion meal. Can't say enough about how much I like this place!
