I originally made reservations for a birthday dinner with 4 people. A friend decided to join us last minute. We called as soon as they opened for dinner service to let them know we are now going to be a party of 5. The girl on the phone was very nice and accommodating.
Assorted spreads and pita - everyone’s favorite was the eggplant. The pita is amazing - soft and warm.
Village salad - very refreshing and delicious.
Spinach pie - I didn’t particularly care for this but everyone else said it was one of the best they’ve ever had.
Calamari - It wasn’t bad, however it lacked flavor and wasn’t hot. The red sauce it’s served with was cold - I’m not sure if this was on purpose.
Lamb meatballs - crispy and delicious. We all loved this.
Grilled octopus - cooked perfectly. Another win.
Greek fries -Seasoned perfectly but not worth the money.
Sheep milk feta - it was so melt in your mouth and creamy. I haven’t had feta this good since I was in Mediterranean.
Braised Short Rib - portion size was much bigger then expected. Orzo was perfect. No knife needed it’s that tender. Good flavors.
Lamb Shoulder - generous portion size. It was very gamey for being cooked for 15 hours. It was ok. We all favored the short ribs to this.
Baklava - out of this world. You have to save room for this.
Ginger Greek donuts - good but not baklava good
It was my birthday They brought me a complimentary Galaktoboureko with a candle. I really enjoyed this. Delicate phyllo and custard was sweet but not too sweet. I would highly recommend trying this.
The service was great and I’m super critical when it comes to service. Food timing was perfect. Waters were always being refilled. The only negative I have is that I would of liked to be offered a clean plate and new silverware between courses.
I would recommend this restaurant and I would go back. I rarely get great service and great food- Its usually one or the other.
grilled octopus and fish were superb, lamb meatballs also delicious. enjoyed everything including the assyrtiko. server was knowledgeable and pleasant. staff was welcoming.
Great to have a Greek place with a nice variety of tasty mezzes and good Greek wine list. Service was slow (at least 30min between clearing starters and getting main course) with the slighest apology somewhere in the middle from a server. The entrees were disappointing- sides flavorless and plopped around the fish- not a cohesive part of the dish, and barely warm when they arrived. Fish expensive and bland- the lamb shoulder was a more flavorful presentation. Mezze and wine might be a better value and quality than a full meal.
Our girls night was so much fun. We stayed for over 2 hours! Will be going back again soon!!
Fabulous food and even better service! We shared dips, meze, and dessert and loved every bite. The drinks were also delicious and every single staff member was welcoming and helpful. Can’t wait to go back. Especially for more feta dip followed by baklava!
Doretta has become my favorite restaurant in Boston. The service is terrific - from the valet to the bartender to the table servers - all are professional and friendly. The octopus appetizer is amazing. The octopus is very tender and perfectly marinated. My husband loves the stuffed dates on the bar menu too. We have never been disappointed in anything we've ordered here.
Food was excellent though portions on the small side. Service was excellent. Didn't mind that we (there were two of us) lingered over lunch with not a large bill. Less expensive than at dinner. Would be fun with 2 more people since there were dishes that would be great for sharing.
Wonderful service, great food and reasonable price for a group of seven
the food itself was delicious; the desserts however were severely disappointing
A large group of us went out and wanted to share a bunch of different plates. The food was delicious, the variety of options was great & the service was attentive. I am looking forward to returning!
Half empty on a Saturday night - that was surprising. The food was as advertised - very good. We had a 4-5 mezze plates and enjoyed them all. It was hard to choose which items we wanted and we might get order differently on another visit. The service was good as well. The atmosphere was disappointing. The place had zero charm and really felt as though they had moved into the space and done nothing to it (other than serving good food). Kind of strange in that sense - there seemed to be a disconnect between the quality of the space and the quality/price of the food. They also started cleaning up (putting chairs on tables etc) while we (and others) were still eating - a bit on the tacky side. We would definitely go back, but just for the food. There still seems to be some work to be done on the guest experience side of things.
Food was good but they didn’t have much selection for bottles of wine. We asked for 3 different bottles and they kept coming back saying they didn’t have it. That was disappointing.
Nice experience all the way around
Love the food and the wait staff was incredibly attentive
Good. Service - average food
Great food... attentive service
food was good the service was poor
If you are looking for decent food with a Greek spin, and don’t mind the very high prices, give it a try. If you want good, authentic Greek food, skip this place - there are better spots in Boston.
The food was amazing. We decided to do tapas style and try a bunch of appetizers. The staff was friendly, and make some amazing suggestions.
The octopus and Spinach Pie are a must-try!
The food was very good and the server was amazing!
Fabulous food. Wonderful service. We all tried something different--everyone was happy.
I have had some wonderful meals here, and was surprised by the dismal service, small portions and muddy flavors. The tuna and oysters were excellent - but the shrimp was rubbery.
Food was excellent as usual. Service was a bit spotty and sluggish. Fire alarm went off in the middle of the meal and continued. We remained in the restaurant. Strong smell of sewer gas wafted through at one point. Probably having issues with bathrooms due to heavy rains.
Love this restaurant; been here many times including New Years Eve! Beautiful, fabulous, fabulous food, well priced, great ambience and super nice staff! A favorite!
Great place for a New Year’s Eve dinner for 7. Wonderful food and superb service. Would happily go back. Greek wines also excellent.
flavorful food, well executed, attentive service
overall fun time
Great food. Unique combinations with great flavors. Excellent informed wait staff.
Love the small plate menu. Have us the opportunity to try many different things.
Our waiter did a great job of explaining the menu.
We would defiantly go back!
Great experience! Thanks!
We had relaxed dinner before concert. Friendly, informed and attentive waiter. Food was great.
The shrimp with ketaifi were a taste sensation and all of the dips were spot on. Best part—our server Erik. Will definitely be back.
So overpriced. Don’t go if you’re paying or a local
The food was fantastic and our server was great. However the restaurant was extremely cold - to the point that half of our party kept their jackets on. We all felt that it was actually warmer outsidein the middle of December than it was inside.
This was our second meal at Doretta Tavern. If anything, it was even better than our first visit. The ambience is lovely. The service is courteous, cordial and attentive without being intrusive. And the food is uniformly excellent. Chef de Cuisine Brendan Pelley - whose food we first discovered at Pelekasis, the Greek pop-up restaurant at Wink & Nod - has created a menu of imaginative, modern interpretations of classic Greek dishes. My husband, our friend and I shared two appetizers: The lamb keftedes, crunchy fried meatballs in an earthy, cumin-infused tomato sauce with creamy yogurt, and the grilled loukaniko, a delicious pork sausage with apple tzatziki (a brilliant take on the classic Greek cucumber, garlic and yogurt sauce). For our main courses, my husband and friend ordered the mushroom moussaka and I chose the pastitsio "bolognese." I adore traditional Greek food, but these new takes on old favorites were mouthwatering and turned home-y dishes into a sophisticated dining experience. We're already looking forward to a third visit.
Great find before attending concert! Food and service was exceptional!
Our table was ready when we arrived. Waiter very helpful with appetizer suggestions. Would definitely return!
First time in for lunch. Lamb wrap, falafel wrap and hummus platters were all great. Brussel sprouts were perfect as well. Service was a little relaxed but great overall experience. I will be back.
Everything was amazing here, the food, the ambience, the BEST service i had had in a long time! can't wait to come back.
This is my third meal at Doretta and, unlike the first two, it was a disappointment. I went for a business lunch and unfortunately my food was inedible. I ordered a salad and there was so much vinegar in the dressing I had a hard time eating it. I would have sent it back but I was with a client and did not want to create an issue. The noise level and ambiance were perfect for a business lunch and the service was very good - attentive but not intrusive. Based on my first two visits, I would return, and will chalk this last time up to a bad day for the kitchen.
We had a great meal and will be back! Perfect for a business lunch or lunch with friends.
