Don't Tell Mama NYC Ratings and Reviews
Rushed: If you need fast service, this is the place. Our reservation was at 5:30 because we had an 8:00 show. BUT, our dinner plates were being cleared by 6:05....a little too fast. We ordered another round of drinks and dessert to extend our experience. A $400 bill for three peoople deserves at least an hour!
Staff and food were simply outstanding in this place. If you're a local or a visitor just go.... go to the restaurant side for great food and go to the lounge side for drinks and singing. After 9pm is when there's a singalong but before there's often great entertainment. Food was surprisingly good in the restaurant side....Halibut was perfection! Drinks nicely done up. Servers were attentive and helpful and the manager kept everything ship shape....you know when a Manger cleans tables and seats people it's a dedicated team effort. We'll done everyone!
Booked thinking we were getting the restaurant for Christmas Day dinner and instead was squeezed into a tiny table & corner of the piano bar. Waiter was excellent however all other staff we encountered were rude. Water waiter spilt water all over the table as was too busy talking to others rather than watching what he was doing. Overall a very disappointing choice for a special dinner
Nice piano area near the bar. Good music. Nice ambience. Excellent pre or post theatre dinner. Excellent wait staff. Very good food. Prices more than reasonable for NYC. I highly recommend. I just don’t give five stars because I don’t want a true gourmand to feel disappointed. But if you’re like me and going out is a treat and the food is far better than you can make, this cannot be beat.
I’m a vegan and had no problem finding an alternative.
We had to wait 20 min past our reservation time. I don't blame the staff for that, the party before us didn't want to leave. The staff was great about frequent communications with us while we waited. Since we had a show to catch nearby, we subsequently had to rush a bit to be on time. We really enjoyed our time though. Great food! Enjoyed the wine and atmosphere. The music was enjoyable. Very loud place though and challenging to have a conversation. Overall though , it was a great time.
This was our fifth time here celebrating my birthday! The food is excellent and well priced. The Cabaret side is after-dinner fun! Will on the piano is charismatic and all the audience joins in for the fun. Lauren waits on the tables but sings and banters. She is my fave! Then all the other waitresses and bartenders join in singing and joking. It all feels like family! I want to go back every year and spend my birthday there! It is so amazing!
I remembered this spot from a visit many years ago and it was just as memorable this time around. Great ambiance, fine food and a reasonable price. We were on the restaurant side this time, and peeked into the cabaret as we were leaving for the theater. Wish we could have stayed. A New York gem!
We attended a Sunday brunch Cabrera and our expectations were surpassed. The ability for the staff to seamlessly transition from outstanding service to very talented entertainers was really impressive! Michelle and all of the entertainers were truely outstanding ! This place is a rare bargain in the big city.
Overall, I was not that impressed with this restaurant. The food was okay....I had lamb and my hubby had sirloin. The meats were cooked to temperature but the sides weren’t hot at all...his potatoes were rock solid and my mash potatoes were rather bland. I’m sure this restaurant is better at entertaining than it is as feeding its guests. Not a fan of this one and have no desire to go back:(
This establishment was recommended to me by a friend who goes frequently to the piano bar. We made reservations for dinner with the intention of moving to the piano bar afterwards. Dinner was pretty good, but not amazing. Portions were on the small side. Salad was unremarkable and chicken added to the pasta was a bit dry. But the ambiance was pleasant as was our server.
We then moved to the piano bar, where we lasted just a short time because we were crammed into a tight space between others. Also, the piano player banged out song after song loudly and relentlessly (maybe that's what a piano bar is, but I had hoped for a variety of slow and fast, energetic and less so.) We left before audience members began to sing, which I understand is the big draw. Maybe next time!
We have had dinner here before. Food is good. My daughter had shrimp scampi and was not impressed. Shrimp was dry. Other dishes our family had were steak,a 3 seafood combo and braised short ribs. All were tasty. Portions were fair.
Had the garlic bread , yet again, because reviews seem to praise it. Sorry not a fan!
