I went to the restaurant because a friend was singing in the cabaret in another room connected to the restaurant. I don't vision myself returning the food wasn't great, and the cost of the food was over charged. I won't be returning.
This is almost always a stop when we are in the City. Great food. Resonable prices. Excellent service. The value is also great except I was surprised by the drink costs. I had a Manhattan which was $14. I didn't think that was too bad but my wife had a single shot of peach schnapps and orange juice for a fuzzy navel and it was $16- more than my Manhattan. We were surprised by those costs. The service wasn't particularly good at the bar either (this is the piano bar). The bartender was nice enough but we sat way up by the door and he rarely got up to that end to wait on us. We also observed a lot of people coming in and standing for quite a while waiting to be seated only to then be told they could sit anywhere and order at the bar. With that said, it was our only weak experience in that bar and the restaurant side was outstanding as always. Very consistent. We look forward to visiting again.
Next time we will come back at night to watch a show there. Service & food was very good.
The sign is a little misleading. I found the restaurant during a previous visit to NYC, and the sign/advertisement seemed to advertise a restaurant where the wait staff, were also singing. May have been my misunderstanding but I read reviews, etc and felt the dinner featured singing staff members, much like the Stardust Diner. Food was good but with so many great restaurants in the city, would not be a top choice. Very quiet, not trendy at all.
We loved everything about it. Will definitely return!
Very pleasant dinner experience.
Bad experience all around after wanting to go here for years. Will not return.
Great food, great service! Will return!
We booked for Christmas dinner here for a group of 8 adults and 2 children. The food was very good. Service was brilliant.
Came for our 3rd Christmas dinner. Great service. Great food. Great venue.
Good food, good drinks, good attentive service.
We had reservations and were seated immediately.
Seating is a little tight.
Ambiance is ok.
Overall it’s a nice spot to have a nice meal.
Close to shows. I would definitely go back.
Really warm and friendly staff, and the maitre d found us a fantastic table in the piano bar for after dinner. We'll worth it for the music! Main show started at 9, but warm up act was fab (and created a good ambience as it was a little quieter). The main show was super fun with all the staff joining in and taking requests
Very pricey and very mediocre food. Door kept opening for no apparent reason, the bread basket was conveniently brought with just enough for one hard stale piece for each person. No offer to refill. Nice enough waiter by not very friendly
This review is only concerning the restaurant portion of this establishment as we did not partake in the bar or cabaret-space. The dining area is small, but comfortable. We selected the pre fixe menu option during our reservation, but we had to tell our waiter about this as he wasn't aware when he took our drink order. I would think this would be something the waiter should be made aware of beforehand. Speaking of drinks, we were not informed on the menu or by the waiter that soda did not come with free refills. We hadn't thought to ask since every other restaurant we'd eaten in while in the City offered free refills, so this made for quite a surprise when we got our bill. The appetizers were good, but the vodka penne entree was a bit undercooked and therefore somewhat chewy. The dessert options were limited to 2: the walnut brownie was quite tasty, but the lemon meringue pie had a very store-bought quality to it. Overall, I'm glad we can say that we've eaten at this iconic NYC location, and we'll most likely be back for a drink or a show, but I don't think we'd do it again for a meal.
I wasn't very happy with the seasoning of my food, was a bit bland, but my guests were very satisfied and we had an amazing time. the drinks were delicious! I would go again
Food was outstanding - portion size was slightly smaller than expected for the price, but delicious. The wait staff was lovely - friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Can't beat the location on Restaurant Row! We ate on the quieter, restaurant side of the establishment. There is another side that has the live music and performances - know there's definitely a bar over there, but didn't ask whether or not could have eaten dinner on that side too. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place!
Half way through meal, a performer came out and then room filled with her audience, all standing around and filling room!
Promised a seat in bar to listen to live music, no one came to get us or offer a seat after half an hour left.
On booking told them a Birthday, waste of time, very poor, no atmosphere and certainly no celebration!
Amazing I had the garlinc bread and penne ala vodka and it was amazing
Always enjoy visiting Don’t Tell Mama NYC but I was disappointed on this visit. I booked in advance for the evening of my Birthday for a meal. When we arrived we were seated at a table which was positioned on the tiled floor right next to the door. Each time a customer or staff member walked by the table my chair was knocked. I asked to be moved and this was arranged so that we were moved to another table. It was just disappointing that the restaurant even expected customers to sit at a table in the foyer area - it was a shame as it’s not the normal service I receive from the restaurant.
Better than expected food. Decor and noise level wasn’t that good.
room next door is great, post dinner
Food was delicious and service was superb. We will definitely be back!
Fun evening and terrific food!
Pre theater dinner. Great location and great food.
Loved it x staff amazing. Eat laugh I’ve had in ages 👍🏻
Family holiday dinner out
The service was amazing. Our server always made sure that we had what we wanted, suggesting drinks and appetizers. He checked on us enough without being a nuisance. The food was also excellent.
The food was not good. My shrimp linguine was swimming in butter and was barely warm. My friend had to send back her spaghetti and meatballs because the the meatballs were frozen. The manager never came over to apologize and rectify the situation. The server did, in the end, us a free drink but I would not recommend this place for the food.
Good food and great service, drink prices are high though so you want to avoid after hour drinks
We made a reservation at DTM based on its selection of entrée salads and were not disappointed. Shrimp scampi with linguine and mozzarella caprese were up to par, but the prix fixe market salad and pan roasted salmon were above average. And the prix fixe brownie dessert, taken to-go, was as elegantly presented in its paper take out box as it would have been on a plate. Our Italian pinot grigio was very good. So was the service.
Lovely place in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen.
Even the 9 year old boy got the piano bar vibe.
Great place to get dinner before a show. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The meals are delicious and varied. I like the garlic bread and the spaghetti and meatballs. The specialty cocktail are work trying. The Chorus Lime cocktail is really good.
Truly disappointed in our experience. The restaurant was away from the music and the food was sub par. We made reservations but didn’t need to at all as it was empty. Our foodie kids ended up with pasta. Bleh. The only good thing was the garlic bread. We will not visit again and we don’t recommend.
Restaurant was fairly run down. Soda machine was non-functional, lights went out in our part of the restaurant, food was not terribly fresh. It was empty in this restaurant, and I’m understanding why.
Foodwise, nothing to write home about. The fixed menu was fine and good value for the neighborhood, but it was as dead as a door nail; I thought it would be a good after show place. Not so much....but, their music bar next door is fantastic and a compulsory NYC experience. It was jam-packed AND because we'd eaten at the restaurant they saved us seats up front...so, in fact, it was worth it. I would totally recommend the place and even eating there if your expectations are lowish. (The music bar really is great and fun and all the staff sing).
The food was just really bad... the spaghetti and meatballs were worse than pre-prepared, my son’s pasta was in the list bizarrely tasting oil/butter. The bread wasn’t even good. The only act of kindness was that the waiter brought us our check (rather than offering dessert menus). Wow. Really awful.
Always a wonderful experience and this visit easily lived up to expectations.
The garlic bread was fabulous.
We booked long in advance and they would not put us in the area we booked. We felt as if we were being a nuisance just being there. The food was very average. Like made from a can.
