There were a few minor mishaps with our meals. The filet mignon was very over cooked and the Mac and cheese was extremely dry and bland. The manager was very apologetic and accommodating in making the necessary adjustments. Service was superb!
Steak was overall good but pricey (you can get just as good at Shulas for less $). The “special occasion” desert was underwhelming (again shulas chocolate cake is better). However acknowledgement of our anniversary was by far best we have had in the past 5 years and for that reason we went to a four star rating.
Donovan's never disappoints! Great atmosphere, service and food brings us back! I had the Halibut and my date the Scallops. Yum factor for both!
Food was barley warm. Potato was so cold bitter never melted. Was there to celebrate 2 occasions and they only mentioned 1. Service was practcly nonexistent Never offered dessert menu took 20 minutes for check table was left with crumbs on it Asked for Manager one never came to our table but went to others
The BEST steak restaurant in Phoenix. What a pleasure to dine at an “old school”, elegant restaurant. Our server, Brett, was professional and help the overall dining experience. Superb wine list. We will make this a regular spot for all special occasions
Everything was outstanding. Hostess gave a perfect table. Brett as the waiter was very professional and attentive. Steak was perfect.
We have been here several times. I always order the same thing. Porterhouse. The lady couple of times it has not been great. This time was terrible. I like my meat cooked. Usually I order it well done and it still can be sliced like butter. This time, when the steak showed up, it barely had a grill mark on it, but tasted like it was steamed or put in microwave to make it cooked. It was hard, bland and had clear water coming out of it. Not like steak juice. The manager came by and I had him take it back. The next one came back, I took a bite while he was there, and it tasted a lot better. Then I took a bite from the other side and had the same experience with bland steak that was under cooked and nasty . I'm done going there. I barely touched it and brought it home so I can put it on my grill and finish cooking it with my own seasoning. It's a $73 steak. Our meal came out to $262.00. I used to be a chef, I can make it better myself. For less money. Very disappointed, will not be going back. It used to be my favorite restaurant.
The steaks were not as memorable as in the past. All six diners agreed. Probably won't come back again. The cost is significant if the food is not great.
We celebrated our 51st anniversary and both had fillets that were wonderful, cooked exactly as requested and were melt in your mouth tender. The dining experience was very pleasant and the service was outstanding. This was simply a great dining experience.
I enjoyed the filet and lobster very much, but my husband felt all of the food was bland. Our ice cream pie had frost bite nice cream, but the Oreo crust was good. It was quiet but their were only two other couples
An excellent dining experience. Food was delicious and very well presented, service attentive but not a bit intrusive, and wine first-rate.
Food, service and night were top notch. We had a great evening and will be back. Our son said it was the best steak he has ever had. We will be back!
Our wait staff were very attentive and friendly! I had a medium porterhouse and it was delicious!
Service slow and indifferent. Kitchen off their game. Lobster tough and over cooked. Filet cooked perfectly. Beet salad noteworthy for the almost absence of beets. Manager attentive and apologized. Not worth the money at $100 a person.
We had a good meal at Donovan's. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. The choice of sides included with the steak was nice, usually everything is a la carte at steakhouses like this. We arrived early enough to take advantage of the happy hour drinks as well, which definitely saved a few bucks. Overall it was a good meal with excellent service and the prices were on par with similar type steakhouses.
I’m sorry to say we will not return to this restaurant.
The food was mediocre. We went on restaurant week with friends and were surprised at the poor quality of the food. The appetizer chowder was bland, the salmon was bland although cooked to perfection , and the tiramisu for dessert was barely soaked in the coffee and rum so it was dry
and hard in places. They have no business charging the amount they do for this food. I’m glad it was restaurant week so we didn’t pay top dollar of $50+ per entre
Terrific Doesn’t even begin to say what it was
Perfect as expected.
I had eaten ay Donovan’s before and enjoyed it very much so was looking forward to dinner during Restaurant Week we had early reservations and I arrived first. I requested a ‘quiet table’ so my friend and I could enjoy our conversation. Although there were very few occupied tables the hostess chose to seat us right by the kitchen door..in my opinion one of the worst tables in a restaurant. I asked if we might be seated in a quieter location and she lead me to a booth, right next to the only occupied booth in the place...really? Since I don’t eat pork or beef I chose the salmon dinner...although it was tasty it appeared to be ‘mass prepared’ and I couldn’t even tell it was a crab
topping. My friend had the steak and thoroughly enjoyed her dinner. I enjoy the dining experience at Donovan’s but will probably not do Restaurant Week there again.
Enjoyable evening and experience. Went for Restaurant Week and did not disappoint.
All three courses were excellent
Classic steakhouse with outstanding food. Steaks are phenomeonal. Everything was first class.
The wait staff, Nick and Brett were wonderful. It was my husband's birthday and their attention to detail made it very special. The Manager came around at the same time that my husband discovered that his steak was not cooked to his specification. The Manager was very apologetic and returned with a whole new plate for my husband! On top of that, we enjoyed a dessert on the house. My steak, a filet mignon, was amazing!!
The steak was cooked to perfection! We were not rushed. We had a table that was alcove and very conducive to good conversation. Everything was very, very enjoyable!
Best steaks in Arizona! A real class dine dining restaurant.
We went to Donovans for restaurant week. Great menu selections and great value. I loved how they put a little flower garnish on the girls plates! The personal touch was wonderful. The bartenders were also very friendly. The servers were over the top, and did not try to upsell us, which seems to be a thing with the other restaurants during restaurant week.
Excellent service and delicious food!
For all our special occasions we go to Donovan’s. The food is delicious and the service is amazing.
I have been wanting to go since al McCoy talked about them from Phoenix suns games the food and service did not disappoint.
Beautiful atmosphere. Service was amazing! I think it was overpriced. Steaks were delicious, crab legs were cold. For the money spent, I should have still been impressed the next day, but instead felt that it was overpriced. I would go again but only for a very special dinner and don't order crab legs.
I would not recommend. Too many better steak restaurants in Phoenix and Scottsdale areas. Pricing was outrageous and steaks were nothing better than I can cook myself. Old ambiance inside.
Went for our anniversary. Table laid with rose pedals and card. Complimentary dessert. Fabulous ambiance, service and food.
Hands down best steak in the valley. Not to mention their service is off the chars.
Have dined here several times. This time was no different than before. All of the staff here is great! Meal was great! Will be returning again!
Wonderful food overly attentive service-terrific as usual.
Donovan’s seemed a little dated. Service was fine. Noise level was super quiet because it was empty. There are so many great steak houses that I feel to be exceptional they should either be inventive with their sides or make a truly great cocktail. I had an old fashioned and they used regular maraschino cherries, small ice cubes. It was watered down. The steak was good but the baked potato was steam tabled. I did have a very nice tuna ceviche appetizer and the vegetables were fresh and food. Very pricey. Will not return.
Was a very good choice for our anniversary dinner. The food was excellent and the servers were very attentive.
Having enjoyed Donovan's for years we have been trying many of the new restaurants throughout the valley. After this visit we realized this restaurant cannot be duplicated. The ambiance, food and service is the best we've experienced. This once again will be our go to restaurant on a frequent basis.
The portion size was very small. For the $52 Mixed Grill I received 1 sliver of squash, 1 small carrot, 3 green peas, 2 shrimp, and a small piece of steak. I went to Mc Donald's afterwards.
Always the best.
It was a little TOO quiet in the dining room. Other than that the food was good and service average.
