The filet mignon was cooked to perfection.
The brownie with ice cream was very good and a generous portion.
The only problem for us was that the beef and the potato was too salty, but that seems to be how they generally do it in steak houses.
Great service friendly and courteous staff. Excellent decor and the food is delicious. Definitely, a must try out! Your stomach will be very happy!
The food, service and view were all exceptional. Our server and the manager, Arnold really went out of their way to make us feel special and have a special night. I could not recommend this place more for a nice dinner or special occasion.
We were there for celebrating my boyfriend birthday, but had the worst service ever in Donovan's. Our waiter never paid attention to our table as he was busy to other tables he had. we end up ordered wine to a busboy and he took care of us very well. Also we ordered medium rare for our stakes, but came as rare. We sent them back the kitchen and it came back as over
cooked. we didnt want to stay for our desert so asked a busboy to just pack them up. again where is ou waiter????? we were so disappointed to their service.
An exceptional meal with time-warp ambiance. Welcoming and friendly with a very high level of service, which was a bit theatrical and intrusive at times. Except for the spectacular ocean view, this could be a clubby restaurant in the financial district of any major city. Very expensive, but worth every penny.
Hi this is Isaiah! Excellent experience this past Friday, and expect a review and photos from me.
It was a very nice restaurant, with a wonderful view. The only complaint I have is that it was a special occasion, I called beforehand to have a message written on the menu, and they misspelled my girlfriends name. I called made sure they had the correct spelling. Had it repeated, wrote it on the website on the special request box.
Very nice dinner. Service was outstanding. Only hiccup was they put Honey-Mustard dressing on my Caesar Salad. The good news is when I mentioned it oddly sweet,, they went back to the kitchen and figured out the problem and told me what happened. They comp’d the salad.
We had a wonderful experience at Donovan’s on our anniversary. It was our first time there and highly recommend it for the quality of the food and the service was excellent and very friendly. The tables aren’t located so close to each other like so many restaurants are, much nicer for conversation and brings down the noise level. We will definitely return in the daylight hours to appreciate the beautiful views or dine outside on the lovely terrace in warmer weather.
Consistently get great food and service. A great special occasion place.
Great restaurant great food the service was outstanding we were able to get a window table and it was awesome
A dinner to remember! The service matched the quality of the food- top notch!
Can’t go wrong here, a good, quality experience.
This was our second time at Donovan's and we have enjoyed both very much. Beautiful view if you get there before sunset. Excellent menu for seafood and meat as well as wine. The service was good, always attentive without being intrusive, but my wife was pu toff by our waiter who came off a bit arrogant and condescending.
Great location and food, cheesecake was delicious
Donovan's never disappoints!
Jason was our Captain and he did an excellent job!
Jason was our head waiter and he was great but the service as our food was GOD awful. Over 3 hours and we got there at 430 when they opened. Order two seafood platters and would NEVER recommend the North Atlantic salmon. I am catholic and follow the no meet on Friday which I usually get the Australian rack of lambs which are amazing and highly recommend but didn’t have them this time. My girlfriend and I had a movie reservation at 715 at THE LOT in LA JOLLA and were late when we were seated at Donavan’s at 430. THIS PLACE IS ALWAYS HIT OR MISS
Visiting my son who now calls San Diego home. I had not been to the SD area in 10 years, but I remembered Donovan’s and it was my first pick to take he and his girlfriend out for dinner. Great atmosphere! We will be back.
The food and service were first rate. What a great setting. The food and service compliment the setting wonderfully. Highly recommended. Value? The food prices are fine for what it is. The wine prices are “full” and then some. Still, I highly recommend it.
Excellent view, great service, Creative Menu, Reservations were easy and accommodating. Wait staff were friendly, supportive and added value to the experience.
Definitely $$, but can't beat the quality and the service. Best in San Diego as far as I know. So its great for those special occasions to celebrate, honor or impress. Or if you have the money, every week.
It was a Valentine's dream dinner. We sat by the window with an ocean view and were treated like a King and his Queen. The service was outstanding. Our soup, salad and entrée was cooked to perfection. The tiramisu was a sweet way to end our meal with a nice hot cup of coffee. Loved it!
As usual, the food and service were supreme.
The ambiance, however, left a lot to be desired. The noise level was that of a frat party. We asked to be moved once which was accommodated as we were initially next to a large noisy group. The new seating area was an improvement, but there was a group in the middle of the room that was extremely loud and obnoxious. My wife was so upset that she ate less than half her meal. We could barely hear each other talk. People have no civility anymore, and we understand that Donovan’s is making a lot of money off these large groups. Consequently you are hesitant to ask them to tone it down for the benefit of your other guests. Our next task will be to find an equally nice restaurant closer to Oceanside that has a pleasant atmosphere conducive to a nice quiet dinner for two.
Great food and service. We were sat next to a large rather rowdy group of young homecoming kids but even that couldn't take too much away from the delicious food and cocktails
We enjoyed the food and location. When I made the reservation I requested a window table, which I understand is on a first come -first served basis. We were seated off to the side, not at the window but there was a window seat available. I heard other guests complaining about not being closer to the window. Just know that even if you request a window table, you're not going to get it. And in all fairness, they tell you that upfront. The filet was cooked perfectly but they could improve on the dessert. We had the tiramisu, nothing special.
Celebrated two Birthdays Sons and Husbands, food was great, service was great, it was a pleasant time all around. Will be back soon.
My steak came out burnt. Had to wait 15 mins for someone to even check on me to tell them it was burnt. They brought a dessert for my husbands birthday without asking if we wanted it and then charged us for it. We confronted them and they stated it was an error. Will not being going back there! Overpriced, undervalued. Not a happy customer.
I took a business client for dinner during restaurant week.We had to wait a while before our table was ready. Some dishes on restaurant week menu were not available
Food was OK,nothing to compare with luxury steak houses.High price for fair meal
Wonderful dinner. We had been to the old La Jolla location, but this was our first time on Prospect. It was a bit louder than the original location, but the food & service was outstanding as expected.
We had a great time, and wonderful dining experience. The meal was delicious, and dessert very sweet and tasty. The service was also friendly and top notch. We would recommend to a friend, and certainly plan on going again in the future. It was a little out of our price range, but it was worth it.
Amazing as always...great food, romantic ambience and outstanding service!!
This was my husband's birthday celebration on the first day of the Torrey Pines PGA tournament. We come here once or twice every year, but this year didn't meet our expectations. We ordered ultra Michelob beer, and the waiter came back, saying they were all out because of all the golfers, hmmm, this was the first day of the tournament. He then suggested their blonde ale, we agreed, and he came back and said they were all out, seems like he should only suggest what he has in stock. The beet salad was very good, and we both got filet mignon, and split the large lobster tail. The lobster was great, but the even though the steak looked like the right shade of pink/red, it just didn't taste as good or tender as prime steak should, nor as good as the last few years. It was a special occasion, and we didn't want to make a scene and have our steak replaced while we filled up on lobster and our potatoes. We may rethink coming here next year.
Incredible view, outstanding professional service, great food. A couple of tables of people were so loud that conversation was a challenge.
Great food and great service! It was my fiancées birthday, and the treated us so well! Loved the whole experience.
It was a group dinner and they made a lot of noise THAT WAS VERY HARD TO CARRY CONVERSATION BUT FOOD WAS EXCELLENT
We went during Restaurant Week and had a very enjoyable dinner with my parents. We were moved to a window table that was much quieter and the service by Becky and her partners was outstanding. The meat melted in your mouth and the dessert was super delicious. We will return.
staff was outstanding wife loved the chop salad overall we were very satisfied with the food we'll definetly return to try other dishes
Great dinner, great location. Seafood tower was awesome!
Food was delicious. Service was fantastic! A bit pricey but it was a special occasion so worth it :)
