Excellent place for an amazing dinner. Try it and see for yourself.
The prefix filet with blue cheese is just enough and although it said mashed potatoes they let you substitute augratins or baked.
I had not been to Donovan's in a few years and was quite impressed. It was a special occasion and they made it feel special. From having a drink in the bar first to a full dinner everything was really good. Wine was great, food was hot and tasty and desert nice and fancy, just the way it should be. It is a bit of a drive to get there but they have valet parking and also lots of parking nearby because of Petco park. I will be back soon.
One of our favorite restaurants. Food and service are excellent.
Enjoyed our dinner as we celebrated our anniversary. Charles and his team provided exceptional customer service. Thank you so much and Donovan’s is one of our favorite restaurants.
Outstanding as usual. We we’re celebrating our 9th anniversary and Moses our head waiter remembered us from a previous dinner we had in August.Great service and food was very well prepared-atmosphere was just right.Always will recommend.
Wonderful thank you for a wonderful dinner
Fantastic food menu and drinks! Our server, Cassidy, was friendly, informative and efficient.
Food was average for the price. The cut seemed much smaller then expected and the lobster was too expensive for the market price although I should have asked before ordering g I didn’t expect it to be that high. Service was not the best. Maybe server was new but they should ask before they just grab the lobster to take it off shell, not to mention she dropped it in my lap then picked it up and put it on the plate after apologizing. after collecting our plates she dropped them and broke the plates. The potato au gratin was not good at all it had more cheese then potatoes Which made it extremely oily.
Birthday they were great
Great service, great food, wonderful atmosphere. The staff was almost too attentive, as if that could be a problem.
Dont worry about the menu prices, they are very fair for the excellent 5-star quality of the service, cuisine and ambiance you enjoy. This location is one of the Top 10 dining experiences in all of San Diego. Perfect for celebrating or impressing your guest or guests.
Nice food, nice ambiance
This place isn't bad, just not worth what you pay. We could have easily made the same meal, possibly better, and spent half the price buying the ingredients at Costco. The ambiance felt outdated and the service was fine but nothing exceptional. I probably wouldn't eat here again.
Slow to deliver food. Lobster was tasteless as were scallops. 7 Oz lobster tail was $75 Market Price. Steaks were ok. Better steak houses in San Diego
I was advised to have the scallops wrapped in bacon by my server. They were not very good. Slightly overcooked and not a whole lot of taste.
My meal came out shortly after I had started my salad. I did not even get 1/4 of the way through it and I am a fast eater.
Then the desert took forever. The meal was a little cool because of the delay.
Fantastic food- the prime rib was wonderful. Excellent service from our server, Charles
We returned to Donovan's on our anniversary trip to San Diego after a great experience last year. We requested a particular booth months in advance that we had sat in last year when we were there. I even made the reservation for an early time to ensure we got that booth. We got there and when the hostess went to seat us at a table I told her I had requested the upstairs booth. She said they weren't using that booth anymore but nobody called to let me know as we would have possibly went somewhere else. I got no confirmation call or anyone calling to let me know we would not be able to be seated as requested. That got the night off to a disappointing start and it went downhill from there. Although the service was good the food was not nearly as good as our previous visit. The steak (bone in ribeye) was tough and not very flavorful. Even the Oysters Rockefeller which I had raved about after our last visit were not good. We will probably not return when we go back to San Diego next year.
The Alaskan Cod special was fabulous !!
Excellent service and great special tonight !
Superb, old style dinner restaurant with excellent food!
It was great and the service was wonderful but ordered a medium rare steak and it came out medium as did the rest of the steaks for the people I was with. Wine was great but expensive.
Great food, excellent service. Overall a magnificent experience.
Great dining experience. Excellent entrées with exceptional service. No hesitation responding to our special requests with preparation exactly to our liking.
Incredible service, elegant atmosphere, excellent food
All around outstanding. Our server Moises was phenomenal! Enjoyable evening.
i had gone to this location before, but i was seated in another area which looked old. i was very disappointed with the mashed potatoes when i specifically asked for garlic mashed and i received an overabundant of pepper which was inedible. the server asked if i wanted another order of potatoes and i said no.all 4 of us had way too much pepper in our mash. Then i think it was the floor manager who named all the variations of potatoes and he said we have shoe string or steak cut fries and i asked for shoe string and they were humongous. But he gave us 2 extra desserts and the tiramisu was the worst i ever tasted and my whole table agreed with me. Not worth $235.
We had a fabulous time... Our waiter was the best! Really enjoyed all of his recommendations. We will definitely be coming back!
Good food and service. Good for date night and large groups.
Great dinner we go every year for a special business dinner. Always great time.
WORSE PRIME RIB EYE STEAK I EVER HAD. CHEWY AS HELL
We were there for my brother’s birthday and to sum it up:
- 2 drink orders were wrong
- an extra side was forgotten
- it took forever to get our appetizers and even longer to get our entrees
- a rush or “we’re busy” is not an excuse when you are paying this high a price for quality food
- server was not around to refill drinks and was rather arrogant
We will be eating at the other steakhouses in SD from now on
Dinner was amazing (as always)! Service was attentive without being intrusive. Thanks to Charles! He is the best!
We went here for my boyfriends birthday and they were sure to make it very special. The attention the servers and the manager gave us is unparalleled. They had light up menus which is a small thing but made quite the experience. The food was cooked to perfection. Will definitely come back soon!
Ambiance: it was shivering Cold inside, even our american friend who is more used to it than we europeans confirmed this.
Food Quality of the meat was good but not outstanding. I had as a side a baked potato which had almost no tast.
Beverage prices are high.
Stellar in every way. Please re-open the Phoenix location!
great place to bring a group of people the food was awesome and the ambiance was second to none. also loved the lighted menus, nice touch
The food and service was great. Moses, our server and his team were excellent.
Went for our wedding anniversary and were treated like royalty. There were red rose petals on our table! Excellent service and the food was delicious. I don't much like potatoes Au Gratin, but decided to try them and am happy I did! They are beyond good. It is a pricey restaurant, but it is worth it! If you want to spend a bit less, visit for their happy hour. Wish they had beer on tap, although good that they have local beer.
