Dondero's - Grand Hyatt Kauai Ratings and Reviews
I have no complaints about the food which was quite good. The service was enthusiastic but could have been more sophisticated. My disappointment was with the wine list. It was quite limited in number of choices and skewed to the expensive - probably due to their markup in excess of 100%. Also, what Italian restaurant has only SIX red choices by the glass?! They could and should do better.
My partner and I went to Dondero's for a date night. As locals, we didn't really know what to expect, as it was our first time dining there. The interior - themed after seaside Italy, with its white and teal colors - was a very welcomed, refreshing change of pace compared to other Italian restaurants where the theme tends to be on the darker colored side. Our server for the evening was Juan. He was so very helpful in explaining the menu to us (and a convincing seller). Juan was a gentleman, giving lots of warm compliments, small chat, and very on top of taking care of us alongside with the busser, who's name I unfortunately did not catch. The food was delicious at every course: from the caprese salad and fried mozzarella appetizers, to the main dishes of mahi mahi and pasta bolognese, to the beautifully plated desserts. To be honest, I'm still craving that mahi mahi dish I had for dinner! I'm happy to say that I was satisfied at the end of it all; not overstuffed and feeling ill afterwards. As locals, it's definitely a place where you would go for a big special ocassion of sorts. Will recommend Dondero's to guests at my workplace who are looking for a wonderfully delicious, high class night out on their vacation.
We dined here twice during our stay on Kauai and both nights were wonderful experiences. While the food was delicious, I have to say our service was the best part of our experience both nights. Juan and Drew were amazing and took care of everything we needed! We will definitely come back again on our next trip!
Andiamo was an exceptional server...And the food was amazing Delicious drinks and meal
My husband had the shrimp scampi on pasta
And I had the lobster and crab on penne Maybe the sauce could have been more flavourful on my
Penne but I believe the chef held back on anything that could possibly contain gluten so I must say I appreciate that !!!
Gluten free wasn’t a problem
Best Martini .. nice wine selection.
What a great way to finish our vacation in Hawaii! I am glad we were able to be here long enough to get reservations. The ambiance is wonderful with beautiful decor.
It is no wonder the reviews were so high for this place. Thank you to Drew for his attentiveness and for speaking with the chef for vegan options. My husband also enjoyed his meal of grilled cioppino.
I would never go back to this place. The ambiance was stuck in the 90’s felt like I was in a crappy golf course for lunch. Nothing screamed Itilian about it. The server was the only good thing. Food was way over priced and wasn’t even good. Even the drinks were unpleasant. My husband and I were actually upset when we left.
Worst food I’ve ever had on the island. Went several years ago and thought the same. Returned on the basis of high customer reviews on Open Table and was just as disappointed. To add insult to injury, the food is very expensive. Won’t make the same mistake a 3rd time.
We celebrated a birthday at Dondero's. The menu came with a personalized birthday greeting on it! what a sweet surprise! We had a lovely meal, the service was great, the food was good and lovely piano music piped in. our dessert was presented with a candle and we were not charged for it or the coffee. very welcoming. would definitely return for another celebration! Thank You!
P.S. I had read on line that the crab/lobster was too rich and not recommended. My husband ordered it anyway and it was completely different than the online descriptions and pictures...and it was excellent ( although he said the lobster could have been cooked a bit longer)
First off they have a dress code. No tanks or sleeveless shirts.
Food is awful. We wanted to change up our dining experience by not having fish every night so we came out for Italian. What a mistake!
Osso bucci was bland and whatever kind of rice or risotto they put underneath was burned. My wife got one of the pastas and she didn’t finish it. The service was good and attentive. However if you want Italian go somewhere else. This place is not worth the money.
We loved Dondero's! We sat on the patio and the ambiance was incredible! A light breeze, the gorgeous full moon and the sound of the waves on the beach all combined to make it a heavenly evening. The food and service were near perfection! We will definitely dine with them again!
My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt during our honeymoon and made dinner reservations for Dondero's. We sat outside and had a lovely scenic view of the grounds on the resort. We ordered a charcuterie board for our appetizer and enjoyed that with a glass of champagne. For our entrees we ordered the spicy sausage pasta and their version of a bouillabaisse seafood dish. The meals were very filling, so no worries about going home hungry. Everything was cooked and prepared very well, but the best bites that we had were the scallops in the bouillabaisse dish. They have scallops in a few of their dishes so I would definitely recommend going with one of those if you like seafood. Overall a great meal experience!
