Excellent beautiful setting. Pasta dishes were delicious.
Excellent service and dinner!
Menu is very limited. Pasta is dry. Calamari Fritte - Chewy and too much breading.
A delicious dinner with excellent service from Juan was the perfect way for us to celebrate after renewing our wedding vows at Shipwreck’s Beach next to the Hyatt.
Fabulous would recommend to anyone. Juan was amazing James was so attentive and fun. The food was to die for I am pleased we got to experience
Very good food professional service, attractive setting.
Impeccable yet friendly service from a career waiter, excellent food made with freshly-sourced or daily-made ingredients, and a classy setting. To up the ambiance, this “special night out” restaurant might consider candles and flowers on dining tables.
This place is way over rated, taking advantage of tourists. The restaurant is beautiful and enticing but the food will leave you disappointed.
Perfect in every way! Best Italian food on the island.
The seating was like being in a family dining room with the upholstered chairs, carpet.
Loved the meal
Freezing in restaurant. Had to get bathrobes to keep warm. So did CV other guests
I had the Cioppino and my husband had a whole fish that was served with fingerling potatoes. It was OK. TBH, the sauce for my Cioppino tasted like Chef Boyardee, NO JOKE! Even my husband said so....the food was expensive as expected, but not worth the $$$. Don't order the Big Island Honey Dessert, it was seriously just too sweet.
Alejandro was our waiter, and he was friendly and very knowledgeable. Atmosphere was nice but over done in beige and green tones, and got very loud when the restaurant started to fill up.
Overall I had a nice night because my husband was lovely company, but other than that, I'm never going back!
Amazing food and ambiance
Nothing but first class. Excellent martini, chiopeno was the best.
We had such a great Valentine's Day dinner that we decided to have dinner here on our last day in Hawaii. Great receptionists, great servers, great food and well worth the cost.
Nice setting, good service and food. Waiter and wait staff were excellent.
Valentines Dinner - we normally go every year for Valentines dinner. Ambiance is outstanding and the service is 5 star.
I had the Valentine’s Day special. I asked for the lobster stuffed with clams and crabmeat; I would rate it a 4.5/5 for flavour and presentation. Although I didn’t ask for the entrée, fresh oysters, because I was served them, I figured why not give them a try - they were tasty, fresh and on ice - a healthy option. My special was 125.00 for the oysters, lobster and desert. I’ve already forgotten the dessert so probably nothing special for me. The biggest disappointment was the 5 ounce filet mignon; this was a $35.00 add-on to my lobster. I honestly have had better steak multiple times in Kalaheo at Kalaheo Stark and Ribs - obviously the ambiance is very different but a good steak is good steak regardless of location.
My lovely wife had “catch of the day” which she rated 3/5. She did not order a desert but our waiter brought her one because my meal included one. Her $12.00 desert consisted of two small balls of ice cream and shortbread cookie- something she would never normally order.
The wine at $12-17/glass is typical for high end restaurants on the island.
Why did we not say anything at the time of our dinner? The reason - we were there to enjoy the ambiance and be thankful we are healthy enough to enjoy the moment. We talked extensively to a lovely couple much younger than us at an adjacent table. The wife had suffered two strokes and was on island enjoying a few days away from the cold and snow back on the mainland. It seemed trivial to complain about any aspect of our meals when looking at the big picture.
Overall I would still recommend this restaurant because of the ambiance. The food is reasonable but not outstanding. If the weather cooperates try a get an outdoor table on the lawn.
Our server Juan was amazing!! Very helpful and nice.
The cuisine, service, and welcoming staff were all excellent. Our dining experience at Dondero’s was comparable to dining events we have enjoyed over the years at Michelin starred restaurants.
Food was good and service was fine except we had a mess at the end as we were splitting credit cards. It was done incorrectly and it took 40 minutes to correct. The manager ended up getting involved late and probably should have been alerted earlier.
Jimmy and Alejandro, our waiters, set the tone for the evening! They were GREAT! Food was delicious, service was wonderful, drinks were tasty and the view was amazing. Food was a bit pricey, as expected. Will recommend to friends.
Decor has an identity crisis, service was very mediocre from a young kid, food was also mediocre for the price. My wife’s steak was not cooked correctly and they didn’t even ask how to make it right. My risotto had celery in it and it didn’t taste good at all. Will not return.
We were disappointed in the food and won't be returning on our next visit to Kauai.
Beautiful restaurant and surroundings. The service was excellent as was the food. My wife’s catch of the day mahi mahi was phenomenal, my cioppino was very good but left me a bit envious of my wife’s dinner. Prices aren’t cheap but they were about the norm for a great meal in a high end resort community. Would definitely go back, and have!
We always dine at Dondero’s when we are staying in Poipu, and we have never been disappointed. Our meal on January 23rd was excellent. I had the mahi-mahi and my wife had the scallops and pasta, both exceeded our expectations. Dondero’s caesar salad is the best. We each had a maitai, and they were among the best we have had in Hawaii. My only complaint is that the selection of white wines by the glass is bad, and the chardonnay we ordered was almost undrinkable, it was acidic, harsh and just plain plonk. Our server, Juan, listened to our dining preferences and made very suitable recommendations. We will dine at Dondero’s again before we leave Poipu.
Lovely evening. Such a wonderful experience. Dining at it's finest. Not the place to run into for a casual dinner after a day at the pool with shorts and a baseball cap on.
Well worth the expense. Loved the food! My husband and I will return next time we stay at the hotel. We reserved for 5:00 so we could watch the sunset!! Beautiful view!
We visit the beautiful Grand Hyatt property as often as possible.
We always end our stay at Dondero's.
It never disappoints. And, this year was no different.
Food & atmosphere were wonderful.
And, we again enjoyed our server, KoKo. He's the best.
We hope to be back again in 2021.
Everything was wonderful
The best food on the island! The best service on the island! And a beautiful setting! It does not get any better!!!
The service at this restaurant was the best out of all of the Hyatt restaurants and I love them all . however I had an outstanding meal -was an excellent wine selection, and I highly recommend the butter poached lobster and crab with saffron linguine it was amazing.
It was a most amazing meal! Our server, Juan, was amazing also!
food was average at best, pasta was served in a dry lump with average flavor. the opportunity to be great is there but am disappointed at the quality of the food, especially given the high price.
Such an amazing and intimate dining experience. Staff was exceptional— knew all about the menu, were friendly, attentive, and overall warm and welcoming. We will definitely be going back during our week stay here at the Hyatt!
AmazIng evening !!! Juan was THE best waiter ever ever and Christen was so accommodating. Great way to celebrate 47 years
Very nice—-great service and food
I would recommend this one to a friend, food was delicious and tasty. We had surf & turf and it was the best steak we had ever eaten. The steak tasted smoked but was very tender. The gnocchi was very good also, i had it with the scallops. Never had dessert but it all looked & sounded delicious, put this one on your list to come to.
Best meal we had during our 10 days visit to kaui and Maui. Service was excellent. Pasta and dessert were amazing!!!
10 out of 10!
