Donatello Ratings and Reviews
Just okay food was overpriced My husband ordered chicken Parm for $30 doesn’t come with pasta only green beans so he asked for a side of pasta they charged an additional $17 for a small bowl of pasta in my opion that is being taken advantage of almost $50 for chicken parm ? Food wasn’t bad nothing to rave about .
Made dinner reservations for Valentines Day. Overall the food was good but over priced, the service was good initially but was non existent towards the end, would never go for Valentines Day dinner again bc we felt herded like cattle to the table which was in a back room crammed to capacity with a hundred other tables and did not make for an intimate setting, and I’m sure it violated some fire code ordinance with max occupancy. Our service in the beginning was good, apps and food came out very quick but once meal was done we had no one come by our table for a good 15 min, it wasn’t until I flagged a waiter down did they try to offer us dessert. The tables were about 10 inches apart and so close that it was very hard to have a conversation and worse of all they sat this very obnoxious drunk of a mess woman next to us mid way through our dinner, she was so loud and every other word out of her trashy mouth was a curse word, I would have rather been water boarded for an hour then set on fire than sit and hear this loud mouth for one more minute, needless to say it really killed the vibe. I had more intimate settings at chilis than this place, for the amount you spend it’s not worth it. There are far better restaurants in the area, with just as good or better food and service that give you a better intimate experience than this place. I would not go back and likely not recommend this place to friends or family. I had high expectations bc of past positive reviews but ended up being a huge disappointment. I suspect bc of the onset of new restaurants opening up in the area that they lost some essential staff, cooks and waiters, which has contributed to their downward trend in overall food, service and experience.
Very nice place. We went for a date night/night before Valentine’s Day dinner.
Food was very good but not excellent especially for the price. Very pricey. Bread on the table was just bread on the table and cold butter
A side lettuce salad $10.50!!!! Really.
Shrimp cocktail $29. But was awesome
Service was very good but they very serious not real friendly.
Dinner With wine and tip our bill was over $300
It was a birthday party and a party of 10, service is impeccable, we all had something different and everyone was very happy with their choice. The food comes to the table very hot and fresh. The wine selection is great from moderately priced to extremely expensive and everywhere in between. $45 to $1,395.per bottle. We chose our wine by region and bordered on the moderately expensive. $140 per bottle. I left it up to the waiter within a price range. It was very good and paired well with our meal.
We have been there many times and is our favorite when in Tampa.
Donatello’s is by far the best and most authentic Italian dinning you will find in the Tampa Bay Area, The menu is small which means they have perfected their craft but large enough to satisfy even the most picky of eaters! The staff and Gino are always very friendly and a joy to be around (they also tend to have a great sense of humor) one if not the best places to spend a evening with great food, excellent service and live entertainment in the bar area...
The food was excellent! Service was commensurate with the style of dining (upscale).
The portions were adequate in size however most entrees were around $28.00. Rather pricy for the amount of food served.
We will return but probably only for special occasions.
My fiancé and I had date night at Donatello’s and it was an incredible experience, as always. My family is from South Jersey and they make it a priority to eat at Donatello’s every time they are down here to visit. This was my fiancé’s first time getting the experience, and it will definitely not be his last!
My husband had been here on business trips in the past and found it to be his favorite Italian restaurant in the US. We lived in WA State at the time but now we are touring the country in a motorcoach and included Tampa in our travels, only so he could take me there. We went for an early Valentines Day dinner. The first thing I noticed was the unassuming appearance from the street. The only way to suspect this might be a high end restaurant was by the valet parking. When we entered, we were greeted by a maitre d in a tux, a wonderful smile, and a great accent. We noticed pics on the wall of many people who had eaten there, including John Travolta. We were seated immediately and greeted by our charming, tux wearing waiter and his assistant, both with beautiful accents. The ambiance was wonderful and looked very authentic to the many wonderful restaurants we have enjoyed in Italy. The food was delicious and authentic. We ordered a side of cold asparagus drizzled with a delightful lemon sauce for an appetizer despite the list of wonderful options we would have enjoyed but which also would have reduced our appetite for the main meal. My husband ordered the fettuccini alfredo with chicken and I had one of several chicken scallopini dishes. Mine came with perfectly cooked al dente green beans. My chicken was moist and tender with great flavor. It was under a large amount of some kind of mild peppers on top, which made it difficult to really taste the chicken until I scraped much of it off to the side to eat separately. It was a good choice. My husband said the fettuccini was very good. We ordered a slice of cake to go as we were too full to eat it there. When we did eat it, it was good but I wished We had ordered the tiramisu instead. When we were finished, we were not rushed to leave. We sat there sipping our wine and enjoying all the activity and people watching. Thank you Donatellos, for being our favorite Italian eatery outside of Italy. We will be back...
The food was fantastic. I couldn’t imagine, but the service was even better. Everything was amazing. If I had to have any type of critique, I would say it was missing a bit of ambient music to cut out some of the more boisterous conversations around, but that’s not a complaint at all, we could hear ourselves and was still an intimate dinner. It was truly an experience. Thank you so much for making a celebration even better. I would 100% go back.
Nearly all the food was great including the soup. However though the desert was goodgood, the cheese cake can be beaten by local competitor. The strawberry & blue berry pairing not the best match. All other food was impressive. Service and ambiance was good and authentic. The live jazz entertainment was worthy & enjoyed.
We went to this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday with two other couples. What an enchanting evening, from the warm greeting upon first entering by the grandson of the owner, to be seated, to the phenomenal service, the fantastic food, the special dessert, to the rose and hug as you left. What an incredible evening.
My 2nd favorite Italian Restaurant in the Tampa area. Do not be fooled by the outer appearance. I have never been to Italy, but Donatello’s made me feel like I was there. The old world smell like I was at Mom and Pop’s Restaurant, the amazing catering to the people as if we were the only people there, the food was the best hands down, daily homemade desserts were yummy as we expected and live music to set the scene. This will be one of our to-go-to Italian restaurants.
Celebrating my birthday. Was greeted and welcomed. Tables was ready for us. Awesome wait staff. Meals were phenomenal. The ladies were given roses and I was serenaded with happy birthday song. It was a wonderful experience for my entire party. Just want to thank everyone that made my night feel special. God Bless you all!!!
My wife and I had a dinner date last Friday 1-19 and our reservation was for 7:45pm and made days in advance. I had eaten at the restaurant before but my wife had not. We arrived 20 minutes early as we live 45 min away and were very much looking forward to our dinner date at Donatello’s. At the door we were told they were “running a little late” which is always understandable but we did not get seated at our table until approximately 9:20pm which is not acceptable. Of course we waited in the lounge area and listened to some good music and had several glasses of good wine while waiting. The wait was ridiculous especially since I had a confirmed reservation for 745pm. I watched as others with assumed reservations came and went yet we sat waiting spending a lot of money on wine while we waited. I would hope this is not a norm for this awesome restaurant. Sadly I was very disappointed with the service to include the table staff who were less than attentive and not friendly at all. Not sure if I would return for another visit. Sadly
Donatello is flat out the BEST Italian food in Tampa. Great ambience, old-school menu. Every item on the menu is spectacular. The linguine with crab is not to be believe. Giant lumps of blue crab with perfectly prepared linguine. Also, the veal is hands down the best veal I have anywhere on the planet. You can't go wrong at this restaurant. Gino is a gracious host.
You will always be greeted with a smile. The food is amazing and you will never be disappointed
with the service the great staff at Donatello offers. Kim and Ashley are fun to hang with at the bar which offers a jazzy atmosphere with life music.
And a lady will always leave with a pretty rose . What fun.
