Donatello's raises the bar for service industry. Good acoustics. Well-seasoned staff. Perfect lighting. Soup is excellent. Entrees are on point. Terrific wine offerings. An all around wonderful experience.
Consistently great restaurant. Service. Atmosphere. and most important - food. It is as good as it gets for Italian food anywhere - not just Tampa.
The food was fabulous and so was the service - a must go to place for sure while in Tampa.
Old-School in All the Right Ways!
What a wonderful spot! Service is so classic: Tuxedoed dining-room captains oversee each section with graciousness and expertise (and it was charming to hear them speaking Italian to each other). Loved the genuine welcome at the door and the warm goodbye when we left.
A word of advice: Dress up! We arrived an hour early for our reservation on a super-busy Saturday night, and the fabulous host at the door accommodated us, seating us within minutes. Honestly, I think it really helped that we showed enough respect and reverence for this hallowed dining institution to show a little style (a sportcoat for the Mr., smart skirt/jacket for the Mrs.).
LOVED the food: We had two specials: A Black Grouper Francese (lightly breaded and pan-fried with a sprightly lemon-caper sauce) and a Veal Scalloppine with fresh asparagus, a few shaved truffles, and a touch of demiglace. Classic food done extraordinarily well.
I just loved this place, and will always go back whenever I'm lucky enough to be in Tampa.
Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Donatello was so accommodating. Although our reservation was for four, we added another friend when we got there and they accommodated us. The food and experience was wonderful as always. Love having a drink before and after dinner in the lounge where great jazz is always playing. My favorite restaurant!
I've been coming to Tampa for a number of years and I always make sure to come here at least once for dinner. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Tampa. Service and food are always top notch
This is our first trip back to Donatellos since we moved back to Florida. The bolognese was the best I've ever had with perfectly prepared fettuccini. The Caesar was authentic and the bruschetta to die for. We love the old world charm with the wonderful little touches like the roses given out. Our servers were outstanding. The piano bar adds to the charm as well. We drive from the Sarasota area for the experience. It is a little dated but who cares. They remembered my husbands birthday and made it a memorable experience.
Fabulous food! E tra special attention to details! Love the ambiance.
Loved the food and the service was good, however, we felt rushed by the serving staff. Appetizers and meal were not spaced. Barely finished appetizer when the meal came out. Would have loved to sit and enjoy some conversation in between.
The food was very good the service was dreadfully slow. The waiter who appeared to be in charge or at least a senior, was snooty and not very attentive. This was not an enjoyable experience and not worth the wait and effort expended to get a refill on my drink or simply get the check.
The food and service were outstanding. It was on the quiet side which we like. Actually everything was excellent except for the fact that for such a nice place i would have expected much nicer wine glasses, like maybe crystal of some sort. I thought the glasses were pretty cheesy for such nice wines. Other than that, everything was wonderful.
Best Italian restaurant in the Tampa Bay Area. Service, staff and food is unbelievably great. I definitely recommend visiting them.
I would eat there at least three time a week if it were closer to my home. The food, service, staff are top draw.
Thank you Gino and Guido.
My wife loves the roses.

Best restaurant in Tampa and one of the best I have ever been to in the world. The dim lighting of Donatello's is the first thing that helps to set the mood for a great dining experience. They follow it with the most attentive servers and staff a customer could ask for. Our waiter (don't remember his name, he was from Florence) was excellent and recommended some of the specialties. He was the first waiter in the United States I have ever had that knew what a caffe corretto was...it was wonderful to have after dinner, thank you! I had the lamb, and it was some of the best I have ever had. This was our first time coming to Donatello's, and it will not be the last. I read the reviews, to include the few negative ones. Yes, it gets crowded. Yes, when people talk it becomes a little noisy. However, this does not detract from the setting at all. Do not hesitate on going...be sure to make a reservation.
We are here on vacation, and was delighted with the restaurant. We were so happy we are going back tonight. Great food excellent service
Compliments to the chef-food was spectacular. Service was legendary, attended to by
four different people, and never wanted for anything.
Food was outstanding. Service was the worst I've ever had. Seated at 8:40 for an 8:00 reservation, than ignored by wait staff for over an hour.
Absolutely horrible experience. If you are from out of town, you are treated like the food they throw away. Don’t bother going. Why this place takes reservations I’ll never know. Hour wait, while all the cronies and locals that walk in behind you are treated like kings. What till they all go back up north. Wasted evening. Run down looking place.
Very busy night....reservation was screwed up . Gino fixed it...service was slow that night. Food as always was good.
We quietly celebrated my husband’s 75th birthday with friends we have had for 16 years. Best Italian food in the Tampa/Clearwater/St. Petersburg area. The pasta sampler appetizer was the best I have ever had.
Best restaurant in Tampa.
excellent as always. you feel like you are treated as a special guest from the time you valet park your car until the time you exit the property. Please dress appropriately for a fine dining restaurant. I hate it when the woman comes dressed appropriately and the man comes dressed like he just finished doing chores around the house. Expensive, BUT "you get what you paid for."
Good Food and pleasant experience
We went for our Anniversary and really enjoyed everything! It was our first time and we will definitely be back!!
Be sure to ask your waiter what to recommend based on what you prefer.
Service is unmatched anywhere and the food is equally as wonderful.
In a class by itself... Honestly, Donatello's would the best Italian restaurant in any town, including New York City. It's traditional Italian done with perfection. And the staff is extremely professional and welcoming. We always look forward to an evening there...
From start to finish we loved it all. Had special mother, daughter date with my 16 year old and unbeknownst To is it was Their special carnival celebration. Food was excellent, food was great, and the entertainment throughout gave a fun and exciting touch. We will be back and for sure again next year for carnival!
Best dining experience we’ve had in the Bay Area. Amazing food, great wine list, and impeccable service. Simply perfect.
Our plans changed from Sunday to Saturday night, and the restaurant was very accommodating. We love this place....just fantastic, old school fine dining....attentive service, polished presentation, very good wine list and truthfully a good price point for this type of dining experience. This is not your typical "slam dine" for $ 30/person outing...but if you are looking for a refined, quality dining experience, a touch of romance and great people watching, you should definitely check this out.
The menu is pricey but for special occasions the ambience, service, and food are worth it. We were seven for a birthday dinner. There are at least two round tables which makes for a much more pleasant dining experience then a long rectangular one. The service is impeccable. A very enjoyable evening.
This was my first time at donatello and last. I was very excited to come here because I thought it was upscale amazing service restaurant
We had reservations at 830. It was very busy every body seemed overwhelmed and the host ask to sit at a bar while he get table ready we waited fir half hour and it look like they forgot us. I waived at the host and he apologize and try to find us a table . He gave us a table that was not set and we had to wait another 25 min. To have it set
Finally after an hour a waiter came to get out order . I was so upset I told my friend let’s leave . I’m so sorry it was her bday. She said we waited this longlet’s order something quick and then leave
The host came to our table and offer me a free drink . I could of complained and did not I was so disappointed and embarrassed because I invited my friend for her special day. I will never go there again
Great customer service, atmosphere and food. Will definitely return and recommend to my friends.
Greeted well by Gino. Food came out steaming but it was only the surface since much of the food was just warm. Happy for their large clientele but it was just too loud.
It was a very special birthday for my wife, which I noted on her Open Table reservation, but it was never recognized although others were.
Lots of food but very pricey. The rose upon leaving was a nice touch.
In our mind, just an average Italian restaurant that was "nice to have seen but would not go back".
Restaurant looks and feels amazing, food was the best Italian I've ever had.
Food was unimpressive and forgettable. When paying $40/plate, I expect the food to leave a lasting impression.
Fantastic!! Can’t wait to go back!
Food was wonderful
Just okay food was overpriced My husband ordered chicken Parm for $30 doesn’t come with pasta only green beans so he asked for a side of pasta they charged an additional $17 for a small bowl of pasta in my opion that is being taken advantage of almost $50 for chicken parm ? Food wasn’t bad nothing to rave about .
Excellent food and great service.
