Doña Tomás is a special restaurant where you can feel like you're at a lively villa in Mexico enjoying fresh squeezed lime margaritas in the courtyard patio or dining on delicious Mexican cuisine in the main room or the crimson red bar room.
With our seasonally changing menu and our love and respect for Mexican food and culture, we strive to present a culinary experience highlighting our favorite dishes from Mexico. It is our goal to prepare these classics with the bounty of what is available in the Bay Area, serving them in a fun atmosphere where the energy is always exciting.
We pride ourselves on serving unusual and long forgotten dishes that we have tasted and recreated from our many journeys to Mexico. Please go to our website donatomas.com for our current menu.
Margaritas were excellent!!!
Mole enchiladas were very good.
We have been going to Dona Tomas for many years, since soon after it opened. Always a good spot for flavorful mexican food. Great margaritas ("La Reina" and "Especial"). Always good service. We went this time to celebrate Valentines Day. By the way, if you like moles, they can't be beat!
exceptional gourmet cuisine. order the menu and be surprised.
We had a great time at Dona Tomas. The Carnitas were fabulous, and for cocktails, I highly recommend the El Matador. Spicy!
Wait staff was attentive and discrete! Thank you!!
Absolutely delicious! Cocktails were unique and fun and the chille Rellenos was outstanding
Excellent as usual. Well worth the prices, which are commensurate with the quality.
Server was ok , she did not know what non alcoholic drinks they served . The carnitas was very dry .
Staff was accommodating to seat us earlier than our reservation and service was casual and friendly. Was in the side room rather than the main area which was dark and lacking in ambience and also next to the exterior door (was very dark so perhaps it was decorated better than I remember). Ingredients were puzzling - some sort of cream sauce and mushrooms in the Carne Asada and carmelized onions in the shrimp tacos. I'm hardly an authority to say if it was authentic or not but it tasted overcooked without any clear, fresh flavors that I think of with Mexican food. Overall dining here was a disappointment after hearing about Dona Tomas for so long. I really enjoy the food at Tacubaya in Berkeley however which I think is an affiliated restaurant.
Great food and drinks.
Excellent food, service, libations. As always, a lot of fun.Great staff!
The food at Dona Tomas continues to be great. As others have noted, the dining room is pretty dark and a bit loud. In good weather, the patio is preferred. The service was great.
Not what it used to be. Kale was steamed to a flavorless pile of mush. Overall food was ok but nothing special. No longer worth the price
A cozy meal, we ate in an additional "back room" out back past the patio. It was quieter than the main restaurant, which I appreciated! Every item we had was delicious, and it felt overall quite homey and sweet.
Delicious food and very friendly service. I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to try this place. Excellent Sunday brunch. There are at least 4 things I’m looking forward to trying next.
way too loud. need some soft materials on the walls. food was good. server was over extended
This is upscale Mexican, not a burrito joint! The food is always tasty, relatively healthy and inventive. Dona Tomas is also very accommodating of food allegergies and has many vegetarian options. Nice cocktail list, but I'd like to see more variety in the beer selection.
Wonderful high end Mexican food, and good service. This place is a dependable favorite.
Although Dona Tomas is usually a pretty noisy restaurant =, we got seated in their back room, which is away from the main dining area - room for only three or four tables and very quiet by contrast. The food, as always, was fabulous and the pulled pork is , as always, our favorite.
This visit was as wonderful as all previous visits have been. Kind and flexible staff. Very tasty food. These dishes are beautiful to look at – real conversation pieces; however the lighting in the back area indoors was so dim on this visit we could not see our food. Desert suggestion, order a side of camote and dollop a bit on to the chocolate cake. They are meant for each other! Thanks again DT!
