The food was good, as always. The one thing that was really off-putting, however, is the waitress came to bring our desserts when I was clearly not finished with my tacos. She wanted to take my plate away and stood there while I was chewing, grabbing at my plate several times and I had to grab it out of her hands more than once and say, "I'm still working on that." Why would anybody do that? They didn't need the table because it was 6 PM on a Sunday and so there were empty tables for new customers. She should have waited until we were ready for dessert to bring it - that's customer service 101, I would think. So, they need to do some basic training for their wait staff before they let them loose with customers.

I keep wanting Don Taco to be great, but I always feel let down when I leave. While their tacos are unique, I always wish they were bigger. I also wish salsa and chips came with your table. On my most recent experience, we were with 6 adults and a 4 year old. We were given a half table and a booster seat. This combination didn't quite work and staff were not helpful to changing our table because they had other parties of 6,7,8 coming in later. Strange, as we were 7 people with a reservation who were here NOW. We were eventually moved to another table, but it was annoying that I had to fight for a reasonable accommodation.

We love Don Taco for good drinks and solid tacos. For non-tacos, their nachos, guac and quesadillas are great and their chorizo pepito sliders are also one of the best menu items anywhere. I do miss the short rib taco and some of the newer tacos are a little too crazy for my taste but the surf and turf does not disappoint and their taco of the week is usually a solid choice. Service is always good, as well.

There were six of us getting together for lunch, and the waiter had no problem giving us separate checks, which was much appreciated, especially since we weren't spending a lot of money! (Actually, it's hard to spend a lot at Don Taco.) The waiter was very gracious and happily accommodated special requests. We enjoyed all our selections, with pork tacos and cauliflower tacos receiving rave reviews. We all said we will return.

Tacos were good, I liked the different choices. I was not a fan of their salsa, it was kind of bland.

This was the first time that I dined here and loved it. I had the burrito and could not finish it. It was really delicious! I also liked the street corn....was the first time I ever ate it and enjoyed it. The atmosphere was nice - not too loud. The service was great, our waiter always had a smile on his face (Walter) - I look forward to coming back!

This place is FUN and right in the heart of Old Towne. WE tried all kinds of tacos and they were each different and yummy! We also sampled 3 different kind of margaritas and they were DELICIOUS!!! Jalapeno, peach, and strawberry infused. NOT sweet - really tasty! I can't wait to go back. It's not fancy so you can relax and enjoy the experience. Service was excellent.

The food was pretty bad. Service was not good at all. My husband and I got bumped over five times because we were seated in the aisle. Drinks were okay but this is Old Town Alexandria. Need to step it up Don Taco. Totally not impressed. We will not eat there again.

Valentine’s Day

It was Valentine’s Day so I brought my fiancé there for a solid taco meal and the ambiance. We were one of the first couples to be sat upstairs and were sat next to a group table that was empty. Little did we know that the group that was coming in would be hovering over our table shouting back and forth at each other. Given the tight seating - this ruined the ambiance and we ended up leaving earlier than we planned.

I went here with my gal pals for my birthday. I had a discount, which was great. Also enjoyed the $5 margaritas (yum), a shroom taco, a mahi taco, and the empanadas (beef/chicken). All delish. Had good ice cream with a candle for dessert. Everyone had a good time. I love the table upstairs by the window :) We even got to watch the olympics too! Friends all seemed to enjoy their meals too.

I went here to meet a date. The drinks were great, staff were okay - nothing fantastic. But competent - food - tacos were really disappointing...I grew up in the west and know and love mexican food. The taco were small and just didn't taste good - the nuevo cuisine just trying too hard.

We came all the way from Reston for the Fried Avocado taco and it did not disappoint. It was delicious. The tequila drinks were awesome too. My mahi taco was not that interesting and very fishy tasting, but the Avo taco was the best and worth the drive! The guac was also great. Loads of seating with the upstairs.

Small tacos are ordered a la carte, like sushi. Some flavor combos were great, some so-so. Very good guacamole. Cute place but EXTREMELY loud, both upstairs and downstairs.

Tried this place out for a friend's birthday and I wish I lived closer to eat there more often! Such good food and service. My favorite is the queso (to die for!) and the flounder fish tacos! Also, best margarita I've ever had! Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in town!

It was so noisy in the dining room (and at the entrance to the bathroom and kitchen, which was next to our table) we could barely hear ourselves talk. We never saw our original waiter after he came by for our drink order, and had a hard time flagging one down to ask questions about the menu as they came in and out of the kitchen. Then they took away the brunch menu (telling us brunch was over). After mentioning that there was little if any alcohol in our frozen margaritas, a very nice manager came by to speak to us, and to explain the process.

If you feel like going to a frat house, then this is the place for you. Staff is immature and food isn't that great. So many better options in old town... highlight of the evening was being treated poorly because we didn't get drinks. Again, I'm sorry I'm not in a frat and actually happened to be out with a recovering alcoholic, so no bartender, for the 5th time I don't think we need some shots...

We have been to Don Taco several times but this time was just horrible. The salsa they brought us was a thin liquid. No other way to describe it. We were told 'that's how how it is'. But having eaten there before we know it's now. 'Surf & Turf' taco was chuck roast and fried shrimp. Not steak as advertised. Overall everything was just bad!
