"INDIANA'S ONLY SPANISH RESTAURANT"
I feel like I'm back in Madrid when I eat at Don Quijote's Spanish Restaurant. I can't visit NW Indiana without eating here. The food is amazing, and Carlos and Maria are wonderful, caring hosts.
Once again, a fantastic meal of tapas and sangria! Tuesday’s are half price, so our bill was very small. Shared 4 tapas and a pitcher of the white sangria. All were delicious and very filling. Will be returning soon!
Large party inside so it was very noisy! We chose outside, which had some traffic noise, but still a better option than inside. The food was delicious, large portions. Waitress was new but fairly knowledgeable. Overall a pleasant experience. Definitely go again.
As usual, a perfect evening with a perfect meal, in a perfectly romantic setting, served by friendly staff and topped by a perfect desert & cappuccino...perfecto...again!
HAVE BEEN HERE MANY TIMES & WILL GO BACK AGAIN. always VERY GOOD FOOD & VERY FRIENDLY
My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely dinner before attending a play at the Chicago Street Theatre. Kitty, our waitress, was very attentive and friendly. She, as well as the owner Elena , made an effort to get to know us and were very welcoming . Our entrees were delicious ( Paella Valenciana and the House combination plate) and seasoned just right. And it was hard to select just one dessert! Allow yourself enough time to savor the food and the ambiance here- don’t be in a rush to just eat and leave.
We went with friends to Don Quijote after hearing good things about the Spanish food, which is not common in our area. We waited a bit to be seated, but our table was reserved and near the live acoustic music which was outstanding. The server was very friendly and helpful, although he misheard our order for a half pitcher of sangria for two people and brought a full pitcher. Just as well as their sangria is outstanding and three of us enjoyed it! The tapas that we ordered were just so so. Homemade crab cakes, on special, were overcooked (both orders) and had too much filler. Mushrooms seemed like the button variety from a can with little flavor. Asparagus was tasty however.
My husband and I shared a $58 paella and found it to be mediocre and not very flavorful. It had several nice shrimp but the other shellfish were very small. In fact, the crab legs were so skinny that there was very little meat to be gotten out of them. There was enough for us to take half home and, after we added grilled andouille sausage, more shrimp, and hot paprika, it was a tasty and rich paella.
The atmosphere is attractive and lively and the host and chef both stopped by to greet us. As mentioned the singer was wonderful. We would go back, but only for sangria and a few of the less expensive and foolproof tapas like olives, ham, cheese, and so on.
Fantastic food, friendly owners with hands on approach, so far my favorite restaurant after returning to the area.
We had the paella, and being Cuban and living in Miami with so many Spanish restaurants, this place had authentic Spanish cuisine that would rival any in the world. The Seafood paella will feed 4 and is delicious!
What a pleasant surprise! Firstly our drinks were generous and the margaritas were very tasty. The chips and salsa was very good. Appetizers, the main meals were hot and delicious! Dessert was great too! The best part was that the meals were reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again soon!
Everything was delicious. The chef came around to our table and asked about our meal. The live guitar duet was great.
We were traveling from NY to Chicago and stopped in Valparaiso IN along the way. We saw some of their ads and thought we'd give it a try. What a joy to find authentic Spanish food in a lovely little town no where near the interstate. I'd recommend this restaurant highly to anyone who is on the road and doesn't want the same old stuff while traveling. Conversely, if you are in the Chicago metro area, it is worth the travel time.
Excellent service!!! Food was sooooo good!! The owner was absolutely terrific!!!
Authentic Spanish cuisine served warmly by the restaurantuers. Cozy and intimate, the tables nestle within a a kitschy Spainish decor (and a somewhat harshly lite interior that diminishes the ambience).
Extensive Spanish wine selection reflecting the many and varied wine regions of Spain. Excellent red and white Sangria.
Also, extensive menu selections, including the traditional tapas and paella of Spanish cuisine.
Serve was a bit slow, but always gracious.
As first time visitors of the restaurant, we had a very enjoyable evening and will definitely return.
This was an amazing experience. Highly recommend- authentic Spanish food. Hosts were gracious and attentive. Will definitely be back.
Very attentive service! Warm & personable waitstaff & management. Before dinner complimentary appetizer was yummy. Pork on skewers was a bit dry. Fish special of the day was delicious. Delightful evening!
The meal Friday night was one of the best I have ever eaten. The wild game Sunday afternoon not so much.
The 4 of us Spent 2 hours grazing on a very authentic Spanish meal. The food was excellent and priced fairly. The service was good and the owners roamed the dinning area checking on and chatting with customers. We were offered samples of desserts (ordered two) and even received one of the most delicious Flan dessert's I ever ate, for free. The homemade Port Wine was excellent and samples were given before buying. We all felt like we were dinning in Europe at the owners home. We were never rushed and were even offered more Port Wine, on the house, to relax after your meal. Will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant as a must try!!!
The owners are great and the food is fantastic. Best crab legs and lobster we have ever had.
Phenonmenal food and service. Had a great experience.
We went here for Valentine's Day, and they knocked it out of the park! Wonderful service, food and ambience. They jumped to the top of my go to restaurant in Valpo!
Fantastic place, we go there every Valentine’s Day, gets better every year. For those who have never been, you’re missing out, won’t be disappointed.
Grear little slice of Europe in downtown Valpo
Excellent food and service as always! Can't wait til our next visit!
This was on my recommended list of restaurants and after going here, I see why. The food was delicious and our server made great suggestions and was very attentive. It is definitely more of a special occasion place though, as the prices are on the higher end. The quality equals the cost though.
Me and my fiance wanted to try a new restaurant. We're very impressed with the service. The owner's wife and everybody working there were very friendly and felt like a family-orientated environment. Food was very delicious and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu.
I decided to bring my wife for her birthday. I introduced her to Tapas and Spanish cuisine in general on our first date some years back. This was in a well known Tapas restaurant in the city of Chicago. We have since relocated to the rural south closer to Indiana and after a quick search found Don Quijote in Valpo. Decided to give it a try and I'm (we are) glad I did. It was still an hour drive from my home but it was well worth it. I would much rather drive here than the original spot we frequented for tapas. Everything just seemed more authentic and welcoming. Great place. I cannot wait to go again. I will also say our server Jessie was great, she made us laugh and gave us great recommendations.
Fabulous food and service like always. The owners always go out of the way to accomodate anything. Very fresh delicious food.
Carlos' food and Elena's desserts are always great. The sangria is second to none. The dining experience is very European, very relaxed
Excellent meal with our family, including young children. Carlos and Elena made us feel special and gave our family an unforgettable evening. Food was fabulous and they knew just what to bring us to eat--including some additional items we didn't order but they thought would be good for the little one. Delicious!
Great food and service, love the live music. Very personable staff.
Loved our Dineing experience. Would highly recommend your Resteraunt to friends and family. Terrific food and Great atmosphere. Loved meeting the Chef. We will definitely be back again Thank you so much for makeing our dinner experience so great. Kim Hutchison.
The chef came out from the kitchen to talk with us, he chatted with me about how I wanted my main dish prepared. Hard to imagine a restaurant where you would get better service, I'd give it 6 stars in that category if I could.
Great food and great service. I love that Carlos comes to everyone's table. He makes sure his customers are happy. Very professional wait staff.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful date on Friday night without the kids. We used to frequent Don Quijote annually for my late father's birthday. He absolutely loved the place and would have conversations with Don Carlos in spanish, as my father was from Puerto Rico. It was hard to go back but I missed the ambiance, hospitality and authentic food, so my wife and I made it a wonderful date evening. Thank you very much.
Unbelievable dining experience...again and again....drove from South Bend...every time the experience is worth the drive...we are in love with this place, the food, the service, the romantic European atmosphere and the warm reception from the folks who own and run this fine restaurant...it feels like coming home.
Carlos and Elena continue to serve up authentic Spanish cuisine in a delightful atmosphere while also being very philanthropic in our community. We love the Sangria, the tapas, the staff and kindness of our hosts.
Don Quijote never disappoints! Authentic Spanish food and very pleasant waiters and owners! We went for their Tuesday 1/2 price tapas and sangria. Everything was wonderful and delicious. A complimentary dessert and a glass of port concluded our meal. Will be back often!
One of the best dining experiences I've had in Indiana. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a jokingly fresh friendliness. Owners Carlos and Helena were fantastic. This is one of our first times eating Spanish cuisine, and it was worth the hour and a half we drove to get here. Our server explained menu items with exquisite detail. All of the food that was ordered was absolutely delicious. At the end of our meal Mrs. Helena was kind enough to light my Grandmothers candles and join in the Happy birthday song. Everyone in our party was pleased!, which is a rare occurrence. I enjoyed the food but I would definitely come back for the people. Make reservations prior because it seems to get busy on weekends. To quote the owner "if you don't have a reservation you will have to eat outside." This is a Hidden GEM in north west Indiana.
It was my son's 30th Birthday and everyone made it a very special evening. The service was amazing as well as the food! Perfect celebration!!!
