Don Lobos Mexican Grill Ratings and Reviews
Owners/Mgt was wonderful helping me in my wheelchair and mobility impairment, very accommodating! Tight squeeze to restrooms. It's a local dc restaurant serving mostly authentic Mexican comfort foods, tacos, taquitos, quesadillas, combo platters enchiladas and rellenos. Hand made margarita. They deliver within 1-2mi gtown-Arlington.
This was some of the most mediocre Mexican food I have ever had. The Sangria, which the menu says has fruit, did not and was just ok. Nachos came with a small blob of guacamole on one chip, a dollop of sour cream on another, a spoonful of jalapeños on another over a thinly spread layer of refried beans. The only thing evenly spread was the cheese. It was passable. I had the steak fajitas. Steak was not seasoned well and was tough. The dish consisted mainly of onions, and the condiments on the side were very stingy. There was about a tablespoon of what looked and tasted like store bought guacamole, a very small amount of pico de gallo, a little bit of lettuce and a normal portion of rice. No beans. My spouse had the shrimp and crab enchiladas which came with red sauce. He was not impressed. We will not be back.
We were in DC at the Hirshhorn and decided we wanted Mexican food. We found Don Lobos Mexican Grill on Open Table and made reservations (Early dinner on a weekday - reservations are not necessary. There were 3 other diners when we arrived.) Don Lobos is a very small, laid-back, cozy restaurant with good food. (There is a stairway as you walk in so I think they may have a larger room upstairs). Our server was polite and helpful.
The food was hot and good. The chicken was tender, well trimmed and plentiful. The salsa was different, rather spicy and a bit smoky. The chips were tasty but a bit tough. My husband ordered a thick and crispy Chicken Chimichanga and I had a Garden Burrito with a side of delicious guacamole. My Burrito was full of veggies and drizzled with a delicious green sauce. It was just perfect to accent the vegetables. I was tempted to ask for more!
We will recommend it to our friends but since we do not live nearby, it may be a long time before we visit again.
This place was great. Did a google search for the closest Mexican to me and came up with this. Was greatly surprised by how excellent it was. It was really really really good. I have already recommended to friends and will continue to do so. The beans especially were fantastic.
The service and food at Don Lobos is outstanding. It is an undiscovered and unrated gem on M Street, especially when it comes to sit down for a reasonable price. Frozen Margaritas are AMAZING. Don't forget to try the Sopapillas for dessert :)
The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the food was not very good. I ordered flautas and was given something that was more like a chimichanga - and the taste was not great. The rice was dry and tasteless as well. I have actually never written a poor review for a restaurant anywhere - but, the food really was not good.
I was hoping that Don Lobos could be a regular destination since I just moved into Georgetown. But I was sorely disappointed and will not return. I took a client for lunch this past Saturday. We tried to order off the lunch menu and were told that they only serve the lunch items during the week. What? The waiter said that they do not have the ingredients for the lunch items. But then after my guest asked a second time because he wanted something listed on the lunch menu, the waiter finally relented. Let me say that it is not good marketing to hang your lunch menu outside the door to your restaurant and then tell customers "sorry, but you can't order off the lunch menu." We found a similar inflexibility when we tried to order coffee after the meal. "Sorry, we serve only decaf....." What a lost opportunity. I was hoping that the restaurant would become my favorite local hangout. But the food was unexceptional (bland to a fault) and we felt unappreciated. I guess that what explains why the place was almost totally empty during the entire lunch hour on a Saturday in Georgetown.
My husband and I had dinner here Friday night -- it's a hole in the wall with great margaritas and great service! There weren't a lot of people when we arrived, but it quickly filled up. We ordered guacamole while we were enjoying the chips and salsa. Chips were crisp with just enough salt on them, while the salsa had a bit of a kick. There is a large selection of items on the menu -- covering whatever you're looking for - vegan, beef, chicken, seafood, sweets, and alcohol. We'll definitely be back!
I went with two teenaged girls and we all enjoyed our meals. I had the Tacos Mexicanos and they were really delicious. The steak was tender and flavorful and they had the perfect amount of spicy heat. We all agreed the the beans served as a side dish were excellent.
The place isn't much to look at, and it was hot in there on a mildly hot day. But, the service was friendly and attentive and we had a great time. It has the typical Mexican restaurant tendency to serve the food freakishly fast, but in our case, it worked because we were in a bit of a hurry.
Perhaps the worst Mexican food I ever had. I am from S. California, so have a lot of choices and have eaten at some of the best in the world. This is ridiculously horrible. They have hot salsa, not spicy salsa but oven hot heated salsa, how stupid is that? Margareta's were $14.- per and sucked. The prices were stupid the service was OK. Oh and by the way, food came cold and we had to send it back and it took like 15 minutes to re heat the slop up and it still sucked. I am beside myself with sadness for the mexican people by the disgrace these people have the put the proud Mexican food through at their try for a restaurant.
