Don Churro Cafe is a fun and colorful restaurant in Chantilly, Washington, D.C. It received the Opentable.com Diner's Choice Award in 2013 and 2015 for fantastic food in a friendly atmosphere. The brightly painted walls, authentic South American artwork and traditional Latino menu create an appealing environment for a casual lunch or dinner. At Don Churro Cafe, different South American cultures are celebrated throughout the year during significant holidays.
Each dish from Don Churro Cafe is inspired by Latin American or Spanish cuisine. Some dishes are a mix of traditional foods from these areas, while others have a modern take on old-fashioned favorites. The namesake foods offered at the restaurant are the classic churros, cooked with dulce de leche or served plain. The main menu has hot and cold tapas, soups, salads and sandwiches along with a variety of rice, bean, tortilla and cheese dishes with steak or chicken.
This was my 2nd time eating at Don Churro's. I really enjoy the diversity of menu items and have enjoyed my entree's and apps every time. Love their empanada selection and their main dishes. Great place -- can't wait to go back & take more friends!
For latin fare that isn't always easy to find on the menu, this is a fun place. The quality isn't great, the steak was tough, the pupusas a bit soggy ... but the pisco sour was good, the avocados are always ripe, and the plantains are divine. It's not a fancy place, but it is priced appropriately.
The food was great, and so was the service.
Food was very good. I am not from the area, but have been to this place several times in the past when visiting. I had looked forward to the music that they used to have as well as the unusual menu choices. In addition, and perhaps because of the music, there had been a much more vibrant feel to the place when I had been there previously. There were few diners, but the server was very friendly, as was the (I assume) owner.
I was happily surprised that the food was delicious. The restaurant is small but the service is great. It is very hard to find a restaurant that offers Latin American food that is good. Trust me I have had my share of bad experiences. I will definitely come back to eat at this restaurante specially for their desserts. Yummy!!
This is a terrific restaurant with a lot of South American cuisine options. Our group enjoyed lunch thoroughly. We plan to go back soon.
Arepas with amazing pork for apps, Arroz con Pollo. Excellent, we will go back.
Nice presentation of the food, they need to work on the flavor and texture, specially of Arepas and patacones.
Food was very good. Waiters had a hard time understanding English, but got orders right. Smallish place that wasn't busy on Saturday night. Let us sit there for a while after we finished our meals.
Due to some last minute changes in our plans, we had to find a restaurant for the Baptismal party for our grandson. We had over 20 people coming but the staff at Don Churro's rose to the occasion and made the whole event a pleasant one. The food was good and the service was great and they made it all look efffortless. A very welcoming place, all in all, and a very accommodating staff, given our size, age range, and noise level :-)
Very friendly staff. Since some in my group spoke spanish as a first language the staff was accomidating to them in conversation but spoke English to those in party who did not speak Spanish. They did this smoothly and so no one felt uncomfortable. On top of that the food was excellent and the service very timely.
It is a small place , and I am happy I found it! The churros are fantastic, it makes me want to go back just for dessert!
The food was great and we loved the music. We will defitnitly return. The staff was very friendly and helped give it a homey comfortable atmosphere.
we love Don Churro's. This place is a hidden gem in the Kmart shopping center on Rt 50 in Chantilly. Tapas restaurants are hard to find,,especially good ones. This place is authentic, the staff is attentive, and it appears to be owned and staffed by south american transplanted folks. I always say, if the local population from a particular region in the world is eating at a local joint from that region,,,,it must be the good stuff. And this is definitely the case here. Of note: their desserts are spectacular, especially the churros. I am craving them now.
I really like the new lunch menu at Don Churro's and highly recommend it. You get good-sized portions at a decent price and the servers are usually attentive.
This is our second visit for a family group and we all enjoyed their cuisine to the max. We tried many different dishes that I can't remember by name. We kept ordering refills for their Sangria which was just great!!!! We plan to go back.
I was looking for authentic Colombian food and instead found tasteless food, with very slow and incorrect service. The pictures on the website are not to size. If it wasn't for the company I was with and the great restaurant ambiance, I would have left much earlier.
We enjoyed a delicious meal. Our waitress explained various food combinations, serves us drinks promptly, returned often to inquire as to our needs, and enhanced the atmosphere of this customer friendly location. We shall return
The saltenas and empanadas were good. Dinner itself was ok
All the different platters had a lot of great flavors. The Alfajor could have been less dry.
Food was fantastic, great service, nice place. Very enjoyable experience.
We chose Don Churro because we wanted to experience some of the unique South American menu items. The food is the high light here. We enjoyed it and would come back when we are in the area.
The food was good, we had mad this reservation but when we arrived all the indoor tables were full. Not a huge issue but it would have been nice to know, we would have gone elsewhere.
Party of four, we all selected different menu items, and everything was delicious. The paella was especially good. Also try the "bowls." Hearty serving at a great price! Only drawback was that our server's English wasn't the best and we had a hard time communicating. This is understandable since a large portion of the clientele seems to speak Spanish.
I was very disappointed to find that they no longer serve mote with the hornado. The service was decent. What was hard to get over was the dark screen that we got to watch the game on. Also, when we arrived, the game was in Spanish-perfectly understandable and welcomed considering it is a South American restaurant. However, during the game, the servers decided to mess with the channels, presumably since someone complained. When you go somewhere to watch a game, it is inexcusable that you would be changing channels in the middle of it, especially without talking to the patrons watching it. I thought that was insane. If the other people did not want to watch it in Spanish, maybe that should have gone elsewhere.
Great to watch the world cup games.! Big screen. They have special menu during the games. Food was ok, Bandeja Paisa a little bit overpriced for what you get but Overall we like it. We will be back!
I've been a lunch regular at Don Churro's for almost 4 years, but this is the first time since the new lunch menu was incorporated. I really like the lunch bowl concept of picking a protein and vegetables along with rice and extras. Best of all, they are showing World Cup games on a projector.
I've eaten at Don Churro's Café several times now since 2010 but this is the first time since they re-did the menu. The food was delicious as always but there is definitely a little more variety now. I look forward to coming back soon!
We've been to this restaurant multiple times, unfortunately the service this past weekend was not good. Appetizer came out with dinner and two of the dinners came after the other dinners came out. One of the dinners came out when the rest of the party was done eating. Desert also came out separately - we ordered churros with ice cream. The ice cream came out first and was almost melted by the time the churros came out. My dinner was luke warm as well.
The service was WONDERFUL and the dessert was amazing! Food was just delicious - had the chicken soup(Caldo de pollo) and potato pancakes (Papa rellena) and Chicken sandwich (Sánduche de pollo saltado) and Combination plate (Bandeja Paisa). It was a lot of food - but delicious - the dessert Churros Rellenos (nutella) was to die for...had the house Chardonnay and Cabernet - good assortment of bottled beer.
My only knock is that it was a little bit loud - but it was Saturday night at dinner time and was quieting down as we left at around 8:30 - the ambiance is great - comfortable seating, good lighting, nice music. Great mix of customers - lots of couples, but we sat next to a big (well behaved) group with kids. We will return!
Great food!! Great service!! It was great to eat Ecuadorian food!
We went for Valentine's Day. Don Churro is a refreshing local place not afraid to introduce different dishes. Many dishes were very tasty and artfully presented. Wait staff experienced with dishes and made good recommendations.
We will definitely come back to try out more tapas and regular dishes. The musicians were talented and
This spot is my absolute favorite place for specialties of Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and more. The food is fresh and always perfectly prepared and presented. Because of that, this is not a place you go to for a quick bite. Plan to stay awhile and enjoy their sangria. I recommend the "tostones con todo"and "arroz con pollo", but everything I have had has been delicious. Don't let the strip mall exterior fool you - this is a great spot for a nice date and an adventurous palate.
I had lunch with a couple of former co-workers and we enjoyed our meals very much. The lunch menu is great!
I passed this place all the time - never realized it was in this strip mall. Small spot - blink & you'll miss it. Food was fantastic. Service is excellent. I will definitely be frequenting & bringing any guest who visits...
Had Empanadas, Pulled Pork Sandwich and Churros w/Dulce de Leche. All were delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient.
If you like food - come here! My mother and I were delighted. The food was fresh, truly authentic, and beautifully presented. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. They were running some native specials for El Dia de los Muertos. Some of the Chilean dishes rivaled the quality of those we've had done in Chile, the pisco sour was beautifully done with frothy egg white (although the cinnamon addition was curious - maybe that's a Peruvian custom?), and there were some delightful surprises in the tapas we chose.
I doubt you can go wrong in ordering here. Very close to Dulles airport - and I will definitely be back!
Great food, great people. It makes you feel like you could fall in love.
This place didn't look like much from the outside- just a storefront in a strip mall. But once inside it was charming with delicious food, great service, and warm ambiance. We shared a platter of crisp empanadas- each one from a different country's cuisine (I believe Colombian, Argentinian, and Ecuadorean). They were the lightest and crispest empanadas I'd ever had, and delicious. I had a lovely shrimp dish, and my friend had pork. For dessert we naturally had churros- filled with caramel and nutella goodness. I definitely would go here again!
We've come to this restaurant as a couple and the group.
Service is always outstanding.
Food - muy rico.
Gracias por todos!
