American
Don & Charlie’s menu reflects the kind of fine American dining that has never gone out of style. The most popular menu items remain USDA prime steaks; hickory – smoked BBQ baby back ribs and chicken; prime rib; and fresh fish.

Don & Charlie’s features a comfortable atmosphere with warm wood paneling, banquettes, and crisply white – clothed tables. The star attraction is the veritable sports museum housed throughout the restaurant. It is thought to be the largest collection of sports memorabilia west of the Mississippi. It includes literally hundreds of autographed bats, balls, jerseys, and photos from athletes of past and present. It is not unusual to see celebrity players from every sport dining at the restaurant.

Don & Charlie’s is a Scottsdale landmark with a national reputation, their food and ambiance have been lauded in Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Gourmet Magazine and dozens of other publications.

I have always enjoyed dining there every time I visit Scottsdale. I am saddened by the fact that the are closing their doors on April 10th. It is the end of an era.

Seemed to herd customers through like cattle. Server not very attentive. Food very overpriced for the quality. Apparently paying to visit the baseball museum.

Sadly this will be our last time to dine at Don & Charlies in Scottsdale. We have enjoyed it every year as we attend SF Giants Spring Training camp and it is a highlight of our trip. The restaurant is closing April 10th and is not reopening according what the latest information from Don is. We will treasure our memories of dining with friends at this great restaurant and the ambiance with all of the incredible sports and entertainment memorabilia. Thanks for wonderful memories!

We feel so lucky to have secured a reservation before this fantastic restaurant closes after 41 years. We celebrated my husband’s birthday and the server sent over a delicious complimentary chocolate cake. I really wish they would publish a copy of their recipe for creamy cole slaw....the best on the planet. All that sports memorabilia will hopefully end up cherished by some other institution. Thanks for the memories!

Don & Charlie's is closing for good on April 10th. After an article on the front page of the Arizona Republic newspaper a week or so ago making this announcement, spring training fans as well as locals rush to make one last visit to this infamous restaurant.

Things seem overcrowded and the quality of food is not nearly as good as in the past. The wait staff were amazing in dealing with this situation. I applaud them. Don Carsen on the other hand, who was standing in the foyer, seemed completely overwhelmed. He was not at all welcoming to dinner guests and asked us in an unfriendly way "do you have reservations?" I was not impressed. (We did have reservations.)

If you plan/hope to eat at the restaurant before April 10th and don't request a 5 o'clock reservation (the time they open) be prepared for chaos and a long line trying to approach the check-in desk. If you are expecting great food it is best to lower your expectations. And, if you see an older gentlemen in a white sweater with the Don & Charlie's logo on the front, that is Don Carsen. Don't expect a friendly welcome or even a smile. He stands there looking like a deer caught in headlights.

We wanted to be sure to visit one more time. The onion soup was excellent as were the filets. I tried the
George Will steak but found the filets to be better. For political reasons, should have stayed away from it. It was a cheap way to see what the other side is like! Finished off the evening with the frozen chocolate sundae. Overall a great place to dine!

A little too much up-selling by an otherwise fine server.
In this day and age, wine list could be a little better, bigger, more diverse.
But a great experience over all. Hope the nw incarnation will live up to this one.
