Domenico's on the Wharf Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I like to eat at the bar when we go out to eat because that’s where we can talk to the staff and meet people while we dine. At Domenicos we had a great conversation with the manager, Sam who took great care of us while giving us the history of the restaurant. Service was on point and the fresh grilled sardines were fantastic. Their tomato ginger soup is a must try.
Here’s a tip: if you eat at the bar you get the happy hour drinks till 7pm. Don’t tell anyone I told you.
I guess it was a bit crazy tonight as we showed up for our reservation on time we had to wait a few more minutes as a party of 30 was clearing. (No big deal) When we were seated. service was on the “meh” side. We had to request water (after 15 minutes) we had to request bread etc... our waiter had absolutely no personality and made it almost awkward. What saved it was how good our artichoke appetizer was, clam chowder and my husbands salmon. All spot on. Even my sons pizza was good!
Domenico's has the best crab and the most delicious spot prawns. My husband had pasta with large prawns in a most unique sauce. Yum!
The owners, Sam and Angele are very gracious. Sam welcomes you with a smile even before you enter the restaurant and Angele is pleasant and friendly while you are dining.
A wonderful view of the boats adds to the ambiance of your meal.
My husband and I go to Carmel twice a year and we ALWAYS eat there at least once.
Give Domenico's a try when you are in Monterey. You won't be disappointed
Thought I had made a mistake when walking on the pier and all of the cheesy offers and flashy lights of the restaurants. However, had a fabulous dinner with a table on the water (jellies and harbor seals for entertainment). The specials were amazing and even had King crab. Recommended!
We went there for a special New Years Eve dinner and were not disappointed. Great water front views, excellent service, and fantastic seafood made the evening special. We brought our own bottle of champagne and they set it up in an ice bucket and only charged us a $20 corkage fee. We started with abalone, which is a rare dish to find and was exquisite! My wife had prawn scampi and I had seafood fettuccine. Both dishes were amazing!
We were on a weekend trip to Monterey and wanted a restuarant with a good view and good seafood. Domenicos was a great choice- Service was wonderful in spite of the fact that they were really busy due to it being New Years Eve weekend. We were greeted by the Manager, the hostess seated us timely and our waiter was wonderful and accomodating.
We were seated at a nice table overlooking the marina, and ordered a variety of seafood dishes. Vegetables were all dente and looked very fresh. Salmon and prawns were delicious, if a but overcooked. The calimari was perfectly cooked and tender. Our waiter was a little brusque due to the rush, so we'll give him a pass this time. His helper was nice and made up for it. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant.
Arrived early - before our reservation but they seated us anyway. Nice place, service great. However, it's very loud and expensive.
We only come here when we visit Carmel, so it's a nice treat, but next time, we will come for lunch as there is a minimum $12.50 per person charge (not including beverages) for dinner.
Made the reservation as a result of the good reviews, but we were terribly disappointed in the quality of the food. We expected fresh fish in a restaurant on the Wharf, but our fish was not. We probably were there on the wrong day of the week (Tuesday) when the fish was left over from before the weekend. The worst dish was the bouillabaisse. The fish had clearly been frozen before, the broth was tasteless and the dish was served lukewarm only. The best part of the dinner was the service, which was very friendly and attentive. When we complained about the quality of the food, the bouillabaisse was taken off the tap without specifically asking for it.
Our reservation was for 8pm for our family of 5, (2 adults, 3 children). We arrived at 7:45pabd stood in line for 20 minutes to check in with the hostess!!! Even after we checked in and noted we've been waiting just to check in and it's past our reservation time - we were seated at 8:40p. Our drink order was taken at 9:00pm, our food order taken at 9:15p. Our drinks came at around 9:30p. Finally our food came at 10:00pm. By that time one of the children was dead asleep. We asked for bread 3 times before it came. So one of our children only ate bread for dinner. Food was delicious, just took a LONG time to get there. So I wouldn't come here with children. And if I was to come again, I'd order 2 drinks because the server didn't come back to get us another round of drinks. Giving 3 stars because of the food, otherwise it would be 2 stars.
Food was good. We were sat on time, but no one greeted us, took a drink order, nothing for 30 minutes. Had to go up to the front desk and inform them. They were very apologetic, gave us free appetizers. No manager got involved though. Curious to see if they even told them.
Sang happy birthday to my mother in law and that was very nice of them.
My husband and I live in Marina (a few miles north of Monterey) and we had friends here from Australia who had a birthday and it was their anniversary. There was something on the menu for everyone in our party: seafood, chicken, veggies. We got a window seat overlooking the yacht harbor, and the colors of the evening clouds and sun were reflecting off the water--it was very beautiful! It was Labor Day weekend, and Californians inland were flocking to the coast in seeking cooler weather, so the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf was busy! Dominicos had a "full on" staff so there were people serving us bread, refilling our waters and coffee, and they were on top of everything. It was a wonderful evening, and a very happy memory in my mind with our dear friends from Down Under!!! Feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful area and have so many wonderful restaurants! Dominicos is our "go to" place for a special occasion every time.
