Domenico's on the Wharf Ratings and Reviews
Made the reservation as a result of the good reviews, but we were terribly disappointed in the quality of the food. We expected fresh fish in a restaurant on the Wharf, but our fish was not. We probably were there on the wrong day of the week (Tuesday) when the fish was left over from before the weekend. The worst dish was the bouillabaisse. The fish had clearly been frozen before, the broth was tasteless and the dish was served lukewarm only. The best part of the dinner was the service, which was very friendly and attentive. When we complained about the quality of the food, the bouillabaisse was taken off the tap without specifically asking for it.
Our reservation was for 8pm for our family of 5, (2 adults, 3 children). We arrived at 7:45pabd stood in line for 20 minutes to check in with the hostess!!! Even after we checked in and noted we've been waiting just to check in and it's past our reservation time - we were seated at 8:40p. Our drink order was taken at 9:00pm, our food order taken at 9:15p. Our drinks came at around 9:30p. Finally our food came at 10:00pm. By that time one of the children was dead asleep. We asked for bread 3 times before it came. So one of our children only ate bread for dinner. Food was delicious, just took a LONG time to get there. So I wouldn't come here with children. And if I was to come again, I'd order 2 drinks because the server didn't come back to get us another round of drinks. Giving 3 stars because of the food, otherwise it would be 2 stars.
Food was good. We were sat on time, but no one greeted us, took a drink order, nothing for 30 minutes. Had to go up to the front desk and inform them. They were very apologetic, gave us free appetizers. No manager got involved though. Curious to see if they even told them.
Sang happy birthday to my mother in law and that was very nice of them.
My husband and I live in Marina (a few miles north of Monterey) and we had friends here from Australia who had a birthday and it was their anniversary. There was something on the menu for everyone in our party: seafood, chicken, veggies. We got a window seat overlooking the yacht harbor, and the colors of the evening clouds and sun were reflecting off the water--it was very beautiful! It was Labor Day weekend, and Californians inland were flocking to the coast in seeking cooler weather, so the Monterey Fisherman's Wharf was busy! Dominicos had a "full on" staff so there were people serving us bread, refilling our waters and coffee, and they were on top of everything. It was a wonderful evening, and a very happy memory in my mind with our dear friends from Down Under!!! Feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful area and have so many wonderful restaurants! Dominicos is our "go to" place for a special occasion every time.
This place was recommended by our bellboy. Quick reservation accommodations, nice staff. It would have been 5 stars if not for a few blunders. The abalone are tiny They served 3 small ones. Maybe this old Italian girl has outdated expectations? Not worth the price paid. Also, the menu showed 2011 Silver Oak, one of our favorites. When the waiter brought it out it was 2012 (not our favorite, not even close). We asked if he could adjust the cost, "no problem". When it came down to pay, there was no adjustment. The menu should reflect what will actually be served! Bad taste in the mouth, literally, from that hiccup.
We may go back at some point, but won't ever make that mistake again!
I booked my reservation through OpenTable just by judging on the star rating of four out of five and I have to say I was not disappointed. We had a beautiful table with a water view of the harbor. We had an excellent server and I have to say that every member of the staff was very attentive and we could not have been happier. I was dining with my four-year-old son who is usually very hard to keep focused and he loved it too. I had their cioppino and I am very picky because I make my own and it was unbelievable. My compliments to the chef! We were not planning on it, but we will be returning tomorrow night also. I love it when you find a place in such a large tourist location that still gives you personalized attention as if you were a regular 😁
The food was well prepared. My friends said the fish and chips dish was the best they ever had--they live in New England and have had this many times in the past, but none was as light and fresh as the dish they had here on their vacation. The artichokes were fresh and the wild salmon was tender and cooked to perfection. We could not have been happier with the food or the service. Yasmine and her team were attentive and saw to our every need. This meal was one of many highlights to the area.
Domenico's is always a delight. With the families connection to the fishing community you can trust that their fish is always going to be of quality and fresh. It is still family owned and operated. Rueben was our waiter as he has been many times over the years. Yes, they have loyal staff. He remembers us...even when it can be a long time between visits. The food is always excellent. The drinks are good. The service is great and you have a harbor view from your table to watch the aquatic life. This time besides the seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and sea gulls there was a swarm of jellyfish in the harbor to watch. Always fun. The chowder was top notch this visit!
i was taking a road trip to san francisco with my girlfriend and decided to make a reservation for Domenico's on the Wharf after seeing they had a good menu for my girlfriend since she's vegetarian. Ive always loved Cannery Row so once we were down there i wanted to eat there instead. We walked into Louie Linquini's which was on the water. there service was terrible. we decided to leave and go to our reservation on the wharf. Right off the bat the service was outstanding at Domenico's. Our table was right on the water. The hostesses & waiter were very respectful. My girlfriend really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's in Monterey.
