My wife and I have visited the Monterrey waterfront many times over the years but somehow we never dined at Domenico's. As we learned a few days ago, this was our loss. We had driven up from Atascadero earlier in the day. Things were a bit quiet on Fisherman's Wharf--crowds were down; the late winter lull, perhaps. All that seemed to change when we entered Domenico's. The place was nearly full, yet we were seated immediately at a small table with a nice view of both the Marina and the bustling interior of the restaurant. I ordered the oysters on the half shell and was pleased to learn that they had been flown out from my old stomping grounds--the Chesapeake Bay! My wife had the Salmon and I the king crab ravioli. Both were quite tasty. The service was splendid and we had a very enjoyable experience. We most certainly will go back.
Hostess was unfriendly. Bartender was dishoveled, and unfriendly. Drinks were poorly made and over priced. $25 for a vodka soda & moscow mule. Food was decent, but uninspired. The restaurant has the feel of something which was good 20 years ago but left to coast on autopilot. Both servers were attentive, friendly and great at their jobs.
We both had ravioli. One with smoked salmon one with crab. Both were overwhelmed by the sauce. Just not the best choice. The seafood dishes we saw going to other tables looked fantastic. Would go back to try some of those.
Everyone, especially our server, Arturo, provided impeccable service!
I was hoping to have a fun dinner with my son. He loves a good steak, so we chose Domenico's. His steak tasted fine, but had a ton of fat on it. My salmon was a little undercooked. It didn't ruin the fun, but considering the price we paid, it wasn't a great value. The service was otherwise very good. I would probably choose another option next time visiting...
The food was great, the view of the harbor was nice, and Arturo was the perfect waiter. Awesome place.
Was looking for a place to take in fresh seafood while in Monterey, and Domenico's was...ok. Just ok.
My biggest complaint is that I was really hoping for some delicious oysters while visiting the West Coast. Now, I know there aren't oysters in the water south of San Francisco, but there is a whole lot more coast than that. So I was very disappointed so see that the oysters offered were from Chesapeake Bay. Why? There are so many delicious oysters from the West Coast, why not offer those? Made me question whether they would be fresh, so I didn't order them.
The calamari and roasted garlic appetizers were perfectly tasty, and my dining companion got the Dungeness Crab, done Cioppino style, and that was excellent. I got the daily special "mixed grill," which was fairly mediocre. The fish (salmon and swordfish) was ok, but the prawns (in addition to being rubbery) were plopped down in the mashed potatoes, which seemed lazy and strange. The steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes were passable at best.
All in all, Domenico's seems to be coasting by doing the bare minimum yet charging for full-on fine dining. Not recommended.
Wonderful service - great fresh, local food-perfect ambiance!!!!!
Took 4 former Montereyans here...I told them "YES ,it's on the wharf" but "NO, it's not a tourist trap!" A tad pricey except for very reasonable wines---but well worth it! Now THEY believe me.
Requested a table by window since I had family visiting. They were very accommodating with a full house. Food and Service were terrific!
Delicious meal. Great service. Received food pretty quickly. Outstanding views. Scallops with bacon very good. Delicious creme brûlée.
Great but poor service by our wait staff
We usually come here for lunch while in Monterey, but decided to try it for dinner. There were several large groups dining, so the service was spotty. We have always enjoyed the food, and this visit was no different.
The only thing that was off was the year of the wine we ordered was a 2015 and we were served a 2016 (whispering angel rose). Everything else was fantastic
One of the few restaurants that consistently have Monterey Spot Prawns, prepared 3 ways. Serves Wild Pacific Salmon, not Atlantic farm raised. Staff is efficient and experienced. Good view of the City harbor, and boats entering/leaving the harbor. Good breadth of wine list, but not extensive. Good variety if wines by the glass. Great Happy Hour drink prices and bar menu- check website for hours. Seafood, pasta, steaks, chicken, and some vegetarian/gluten free. The menu on their website is up to date. Noise level is never loud anywhere, but there are quieter sections if you ask.
Excellent food and service. Helpful waiters provided excellent suggestions that made the meal memorable. Will be back for more dinner whenever I am in the area.
Online it was rated with “$”. In my head this shouldn’t be too expensive. I was wrong! I felt I paid way too much for what I got. Unfortunately I feel this is same with any restaurant on the wharf in Monterey but I still wasn’t happy.
The steak and lobster were just average, which was disappointing for the price. The prawns were very good though, so I'd recommend those. Our waiter seemed rushed but did check back often. The tables by the window have a beautiful view!
Nice restaurant, great view of Marina, good food
The hostess was very nice and sat us at a table by the window. The waiter was having a bad night. He was not very friendly and we never saw a smile. The food was good but not excellent. The Calamari steak that I ordered was a little too greasy for my taste. The view of the water was amazing but the overall experience was just okay.
My wife and I like to eat at the bar when we go out to eat because that’s where we can talk to the staff and meet people while we dine. At Domenicos we had a great conversation with the manager, Sam who took great care of us while giving us the history of the restaurant. Service was on point and the fresh grilled sardines were fantastic. Their tomato ginger soup is a must try.
Here’s a tip: if you eat at the bar you get the happy hour drinks till 7pm. Don’t tell anyone I told you.
I guess it was a bit crazy tonight as we showed up for our reservation on time we had to wait a few more minutes as a party of 30 was clearing. (No big deal) When we were seated. service was on the “meh” side. We had to request water (after 15 minutes) we had to request bread etc... our waiter had absolutely no personality and made it almost awkward. What saved it was how good our artichoke appetizer was, clam chowder and my husbands salmon. All spot on. Even my sons pizza was good!
Has been family run for 38 years and probably one of the best restaurants on touristy Monterey Wharf.
On the Wharf this has to be the best restaurant. We have dined at nearly every place on the Wharf over the last 20 years and Domenico is the best. Quality seafood prepared expertly and always a good size portion. Great value for the cost.
Domenico's has the best crab and the most delicious spot prawns. My husband had pasta with large prawns in a most unique sauce. Yum!
The owners, Sam and Angele are very gracious. Sam welcomes you with a smile even before you enter the restaurant and Angele is pleasant and friendly while you are dining.
A wonderful view of the boats adds to the ambiance of your meal.
My husband and I go to Carmel twice a year and we ALWAYS eat there at least once.
Give Domenico's a try when you are in Monterey. You won't be disappointed
Long time Monterey Wharf seafood restaurant. We had the cedar plank salmon with lemon/caper sauce. Nicely cooked. The sea lions below were out in force; we also saw sea otters. One of our favorites
Thought I had made a mistake when walking on the pier and all of the cheesy offers and flashy lights of the restaurants. However, had a fabulous dinner with a table on the water (jellies and harbor seals for entertainment). The specials were amazing and even had King crab. Recommended!
We went there for a special New Years Eve dinner and were not disappointed. Great water front views, excellent service, and fantastic seafood made the evening special. We brought our own bottle of champagne and they set it up in an ice bucket and only charged us a $20 corkage fee. We started with abalone, which is a rare dish to find and was exquisite! My wife had prawn scampi and I had seafood fettuccine. Both dishes were amazing!
We were on a weekend trip to Monterey and wanted a restuarant with a good view and good seafood. Domenicos was a great choice- Service was wonderful in spite of the fact that they were really busy due to it being New Years Eve weekend. We were greeted by the Manager, the hostess seated us timely and our waiter was wonderful and accomodating.
Great seafood as always. Still best food and service on the Wharf.
Awful experience. We had a reservation and nevertheless had to wait over 30 minutes. The waiter vanished, service was horrible. The meal was over cooked, tasted like nicrowave, white wine was hot and the table was located at the restrooms entrance
Always a great place’!
We were seated at a nice table overlooking the marina, and ordered a variety of seafood dishes. Vegetables were all dente and looked very fresh. Salmon and prawns were delicious, if a but overcooked. The calimari was perfectly cooked and tender. Our waiter was a little brusque due to the rush, so we'll give him a pass this time. His helper was nice and made up for it. All in all, I would recommend this restaurant.
This is the worst restaurant I have ever encountered. Will never go back. Their food is bad, their services worse.
Arrived early - before our reservation but they seated us anyway. Nice place, service great. However, it's very loud and expensive.
We only come here when we visit Carmel, so it's a nice treat, but next time, we will come for lunch as there is a minimum $12.50 per person charge (not including beverages) for dinner.
Impressive in all respects. Hard to beat the freshness of the seafood.
We really enjoyed the calamari and bacon-covered scallops. Gorgeous view! We saw three jellyfish swimming near our window!! Love this place.
Food was excellent. Waiter was very attentive . Location on the wharf was really nice.
Made the reservation as a result of the good reviews, but we were terribly disappointed in the quality of the food. We expected fresh fish in a restaurant on the Wharf, but our fish was not. We probably were there on the wrong day of the week (Tuesday) when the fish was left over from before the weekend. The worst dish was the bouillabaisse. The fish had clearly been frozen before, the broth was tasteless and the dish was served lukewarm only. The best part of the dinner was the service, which was very friendly and attentive. When we complained about the quality of the food, the bouillabaisse was taken off the tap without specifically asking for it.
The food was wonderful! It was fun to watch the otters play outside the window. Would absolutely recommend!
Enjoyed our meals, atmosphere and wine so much we are going back again this week. We can’t recall another restaurant while on vacation that we’ve visited twice.
