Dining at Etoile was a true dining adventure. Every item was unusually prepared and presented. Nothing ordinary here. Very special! And absolutely delicious. If this restaurant was closer to us, we would go often. It is just a little hard to find, with lack of visual signage.

Five of us visited Etoile in the Napa Valley for lunch in December 2014 and had one of the best lunches we've ever had. We drove from San Francisco in the morning out to Napa Valley and visited two wineries on the way to Etoile. The Domaine Chandon setting is extremely scenic and beautiful. The restaurant itself has a very beautiful outlook and surrounds and was very elegant without being too formal. The service, ambience, food and drinks were exceptional. All five of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. As well as tasting superb and fresh, the overall presentation of the food was just as exceptional! The drinks were also lovely especially the Etoile Sparkling Rose- best of the best! Our lunch at Etoile was perfection and we are very eager to visit again when we are next in the Napa Valley region.

We live in Contra Costa County, and get to the Napa Valley for dining about once every five years. When we start to plan this rare outing, my husband gets excited about dining at Domaine Chandon's étoile restaurant, so that's where we go, and we are never disappointed. His first experience with Domaine Chandon hospitality was in 1981, as part of a work retreat in the Napa Valley. My husband fondly remembers how impressed he was with the ambiance of the upper patio, and the quality of the food and service. When our infrequent visits to étoile happen, it feels like going to Old Faithful, because we will always be delighted and touched and awed by our experience. Keep up the good work!

Particular to the wine and dine experience, I can say that Etoile is the best pairing to a romantic night on a weekend in Napa Valley. The ambiance is serious and regal with a fully educated staff on hand and the accomodations could not have been more hands on and enlightening. From the recommendations to the on-time refills of our sparkling waters, we have had the best Napa experience so far in our lives! Good times and perfect way to bid farewell to a year of celebrations. Bravo to Etoile! Will recommend and return!

I use soup as a true measure of a Chefs talent since it requires creativity and patience. In this case my squash soup looked like mud ,was gloppy in consistency and had no flavor suggesting its provenence. My other test of the Chef is sweetbreads since they have no intrinsic flavor profile and requires the Chefs talents and imagination to make this food taste like anything. In this case the sweetbreads were cut unto small morsels, the size and shape of a small grape, then drowned in a bowl of very strongly flavored lentils which overwhelmed the other bits of things which were included.

We visited Etoile for Thanksgiving dinner and were definitely rewarded. The menu was a three course (with selections) for $80 pp. We thought it was an excellent value. We both had the chestnut soup with a little pate that was really delicious. My husband had the arctic char and I went "traditional" with the turkey, potatoes, gravy, cranberry relish, etc. which was also excellent. Desserts were also good, especially the chocolate creation my husband ordered. We both had wine parings and were quite pleased. The size of the pours was quite generous. We would do this again in a heartbeat--our family may have found an new holiday tradition! Thanks also to the staff who gave up their holidays to make ours special.

Came with 5 lovely young ladies for my daughter's birthday lunch. The private niche room was lovely! While we would have lilked to look out on the green belt, it was still very nice, and the wait staff were attentive and excellent. I would say the food was complex and developed. Excellent for foodies like us. Thank you. ** We also loved that there were no small children screaming and yelling throughout our afternoon. It felt very adult and sophisticated. A perfect environment for our event.

This meal was the most enjoyable experience I have had in years. My husband and I were celebrating my birthday and they gave us Table 1 with a great view of the garden. We did the taste menu with pairings and each course was better than the last. The chef has an amazing sense of garnish and each item on the plate complimented each other perfectly. Our waiters were attentive but not overly. They left us alone to enjoy our food and each other. I cannot wait to return!

We had lunch at etoile, we would have had the tasting menu unfortunately we ran out of time. We had three courses, food was very good and packed with flavour. The waiter was exceptionally good, he was very professional and knowledgeable. Overall, the food was spectacular. We couldn't get a table at the French laundry so, this came out from trip advisor.

Pricey but elegant experience. Personally I'd choose an authentic, old school diner anytime over a posh $300 prix fixe dinner but we enjoyed both the food and the friendly, warm service. A beautiful property not truly enjoyed during evening hours (too dark). I'm sure it's even more memorable in daylight hours. A great place, if you want the multi-course experience.

I've reviewed dozens of restaurants for Open Table. Étoile exceeds them all. If I could choose ten stars I would. This is definitely a special occasion place. Linger, take your time, savor the experience. We chose the Tasting menu with wine pairing which ended up being 7 courses with the Amuse bouches. Every bite was perfection. Every sip perfectly matched. We had an Oyster on the half shell with Ponzu; Duck Moose with Apricot Pate; Lobster and Celery Custard with Heirloom Radish; Dungeness Crab with Fingerling Potatoes, Bacon Lardoons, Green Garlic, and Meyer Lemon; Roasted Paine Farm Squab with Musquée de Provence, Pomegranate, Medjool Dates, Mexican Marigold; Smoked Short Rib with Root Purée, Fuyu Persimmon, Chanterelle Mushrooms, and Flowering Peppercorn; then, Caramelized Pear Mille-Feuille with Almond Toffee and Brandied Butterscotch. Many thanks to the team who took care of us - John, Lisa, Juan and Noah. Thanks for an incredible experience. One of the top five meals of all time for us. Look forward to returning.

I wanted to take my wife out for our anniversary and chose Etoile. I booked an 8:30 saturday reservation online without any problems. In short, we had a great evening. We each chose a four course fixed menu option along with wine pairings. The server was very nice and the only issues that we had this evening was our candle on the table was not lit and one pairing came after the course (i think). As it was a late evening dinner, we missed the opportunity to walk around the Chandon grounds which are beautiful during the day. Our food courses were eclectic, original, and very good. My lamb was perfectly prepared and very tasty. My wife's scallops were very good as well. I am not entirely certain my wine pairings worked for me though because I was not particularly enthusiastic about any of the choices. One might consider just choosing their own favorites rather than the pairings. We finished the evening with a Etoile Brandy that reminded me of a cognac.

For about 20 years, this used to be one of our favorite restaurants when visiting the Bay area. We went back this year after a 3 years hiatus and were utterly disappointed. The wine list is still excellent and so is the setting. But the food has taken an horrible turn, with yet another Chef who seems to believe that combining condiments from all parts of the world in every dish is a gastronomic feat. It is not. It just overwhelms what are otherwise good basic ingredients and creates a cacophony of flavors which are incompatible. The other great disappointment was service quality. Though the restaurant was less than 1/3 full, the waiting staff seemed to prefer to chat among themselves than tend to the few tables they had. Several requests we made of them were either totally ignored or had to be repeated several times before they were fulfilled. At these prices, and with so many superior eating establishments nearby, one wonders why the service culture has become so poor.

Wait staff knowledgeable and attentive without any of the haughtiness that you sometimes get in a restaurant of this caliber. Of course, an excellent wine list and an environment that cannot be beat. The food selection from the 4 course nor the 6 course menu was not favorable! Etoile restaurant's website stated they had a regular menu to choose from. The waitress stated they no longer have the regular menu, we could only choose from a 6 course dinner for $125.00 or a 4 course dinner for $98.00. They ran out of 2 particular wines that we wanted to purchase. The price for dinner is expensive, especially for the choices that you have to choose from. My wife was really disappointed and so was I. I will never return! The only good experience was the wine and the friendly staff.

Etoile is on the grounds of Domaine Chandon winery. I would recommend starting out by doing a sparkling wine (i.e. champagne) tasting. Etoile believes in great food. They create dishes that combine different ingredients in ways that you have never imagined. And the result is one of the most amazing dishes you will have ever eaten. If it is warm enough, sit out on the patio and enjoy the view of the grounds.

The food was excellent, with sumptuous flavors and gorgeous presentation. The one disappointment was the dessert, which was prepared in the same manner as the entrees, in a bowl with light sauce around the Bavarian Crème of Apples. It would have been nice to have change of style with a pastry dessert. One other distraction: The expensive $110 bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne was served in white wine glasses (!), not champagne flutes. This was a surprise, as I had been there for Easter Brunch, and the flutes were present. Finally, the waiter suggested that the glasses be filled up, so he would not have to bring an ice bucket to the table, since there was only a glass or two of champagne in the bottle!
