Dolphin Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I had been to Dolphin in the past, and felt their food was okay. I returned after two years, and was pleasantly surprised by their new, more creative menu. We visited during restaurant week to celebrate my friend's birthday. Everyone was pleased with what they ordered and found it to be a fun, relaxing experience. I had the goat cheese/Kale salad and the salmon entree. Both were fresh and delicious. I also had the cheesecake berry dessert which was light and tasted divine. Overall a pleasant experience in a non-rushed atmosphere. The only negative is that parking increased from $3 to $5 (that's with discount from Dolphin without including valet tip). This additional cost could discourage customers, but I still recommend the restaurant.
The Dolphin Restaurant is located near the Hudson River. It has a spectacular location.
The ambiance is very up beat and up dated. The bathrooms are very clean and also up dated. I have never seen a bathroom sink that glows. Very cool. The Dolphin is a place to relax and enjoy. The service is very good. They do not hover but they are very attentive.
The Food is questionable. I had the miso chicken. It was so spicy. My mouth was on fire with every bite. My husband and I switched dishes. He could tolerate spicy more than I. He had to a lot of drink water to endure the meal. They should warn people, Spicy Dish. The other dish, butternut squash ravioli, was swimming in oil. Although, it was still enjoyable. I liked the added butternut squash to the dish. It give it a fresh taste. But the ravioli are not fresh and I felt like they came from Costco. It really is a delightful restaurant. I would go back. I went for Restaurant week. So sometime meals can be mass produced. It is worth another try.
The service was efficient an friendly. Sitting outside on a warm day and looking at the river is delightful. The food is always good, and I am so glad they participate in restaurant week. The goat cheese salad could use a little more goat cheese, but the dressing was sweet and light. The pumpkin ravioli was delicious, surrounded by grilled shrimp and pieces of pumpkin. I took most of it home for lunch the next day. The cobbler was pieces of apple in a cinnamon sauce with vanilla ice cream. More than enough food for a delightful lunch.
My husband and I had two different appetizers; the Soup of the Day ( Pork n Bean) and the Pumpkin Risotto Balls. Both were delicious. For our second course, I had the Seared Atlantic Salmon ( it was perfectly seasoned the skin was crispy and the salmon was moist and delicious on a bed of creamy sweet potatoes. My husband had the Miso Glazed Chicken it was just the right amount of spicy and enough food for two people!
We barely had enough room for dessert but we forced ourselves and we're so glad we did! The apple cobbler was to die for, warm, sweet and the drizzle of Carmel sauce set it off!
The Dolphin has never recovered from change of staff 4 years ago. Now the drinks are weak, the food mediocre, lousy presentation and the slowest most inattentive wait staff. But the view of the Hudson from the outdoor seating is extrodinaiy. Hence why we return.
Worst restaurant on OpenTable that I've been to.
Service sucked, the waiter wasn't told by the hostess of someone's birthday.
They basically forgot about us. Food was horrible.
Review that day talked about the valet losing someone's car keys and that the manager didn't do anything about it,
He hardly cared when we spoke up about the bad customer service.
Never again will I get duped when it says waterfront and you ask for outdoor seating but they put you in a back room, no windows and acknowledging the request.
Don't waste your money.
Worst dining experience I have ever had! The service was very good, and the food was OK, but the imbeciles who run the valet parking service managed to lose our car key. We waited for over an hour before one of the stooges managed to find the key where another imbecile had left it in another car. You might think they would apologize, or refund the parking fee, but they treated us like we did not exist. The attendants would just look and shrug when we asked to speak with the manager. My wife and I will never return to the restaurant or the area. Anyone who thinks about using the valet parking "service" should be forewarned--you may never see your car or car keys again. They found our car only after several threats that we would call the cops. A ruined evening!
I always enjoy the food and atmosphere. I didn't like the fact that we were 5 people and they added a tip(20% too!). I understand when it's large groups, that makes sense. It was probably mentioned somewhere on the money, but I never had that before. Also they really didnt bring it to your attention, it wasnt circled or anything. In addition there was still a line that said tip on the bill, so if you didnt read carefully you could've easily have tipped 2x. I also dont love when they automatically do 20%, they should do less and allow you to add more which i usually do.
I'd patronized Dolphin several times a few years ago but lost interest due to a decline in the quality of food and service. Happy to say the trend has been reversed. This establishment has made great strides towards reclaiming its former glory. The staff was cordial and professional and the cuisine was greatly improved. Though the seafood could have been fresher, I've had worse, and it was very well prepared. Despite the formidable showing of the entree and dessert, the grilled octopus appetizer and truffle fries stole the show!
I frequent this restaurant as it is in the base of my apartment building . It's got so much potential and at times it lives up to all of that. Mostly though your experience will depend on the day you show up. There are times when the service is sooo slow, it's always hard to get the check there once you are done, and the food is mediocre considering the price. I was there twice this week. On the 4th of July I had the Seafood Bake, the portion was great and well worth the money for clams, mussels, huge pieces of king crab and mini corn on the cob. Sadly the dish was ruined because the saffron broth it was cooked in was super salty. I had to ask for bread, and it took forever before it came to the table.
I was just the for Brunch this Sunday and the chicken and waffles was divine. My friends had the steak and eggs and they were perfectly cooked as well. The chicken is well seasoned, super crunchy. The service was on point and they bottomless drinks for 18.00 add on is worth it. Two suggestions, warm the syrup and please serve softened (slab) butter butter. The food is too pricey to be offering cold butter in plastic packages as an afterthought.
In short it's a great space, a great location on the waterfront and when the right chef is working it's a great time. The drinks are really good as their bartenders seem to be true mixologists.
The steak tip appetizer was amazing. Wife had the spicy tuna, which she loved. I had the burger. A burger is a burger, but this was something noteworthy! The aged fontina cheese, pepper bacon slab and horseradish aioli made this burger something spectacular.
Worth the drive for a nice spot on the hudson. We'll be going back!
The grilled octopus as an appetizer was delicious. My friend loved the seafood entree in tomato sauce. Another friend had the zucchini pasta primavera. There was hardly any 'pasta' and was therefore not a hearty or filling dish. The Miso chicken and tuna entrees were not what we expected. I had expected the noodles and Asian salad to be separate on the plate and not combined. It was tasty though. Would go back and order another entree.
Service was too slow. Waited 1/2 hour for appetizers. Water served water after we requested and never offered refill. I used valet parking and when picking up car, it took more than 10 minutes to retrieve car from "parking lot across the main street". Car was returned with air conditioning full blast and radio tuned to a hip-hop station. Someone must have had a good relaxing time in my car.
Went with my family. Our meals were very good. The cost of the meals were more than what I expected based on what the Open Table App stated. I had to deduct some stars on my rating because our waitress did not bring back the correct change for my bill. It was off by a couple dollars. Also, a star deduction because valet parking wanted to test my V8 engine in my pickup truck. Three valet attendants were eager to park my truck. Then, one attendant jumped in and floored it down the street, up a hill, and took right out of sight. Who knows where he went. My truck was returned to me after my meal, and seem to be in good shape, but I'm not sure I would return to The Dolphin again after my valet experience.
We enjoy dining at Dolphin because it's on the water and you can sit outside. Didn't realize that the day we went was considered a "holiday" so they had only a 3 course fixed menu which was disappointing to us. Food was good but it would not have been what we would have selected off the regular menu although there was about 10 entree choices. Overall good.
Great location with nice view and atmosphere. The waiter was very nice but needed to step up the pace. We waited way to long for water/drink refills. There seemed to be no sense of urgency with any waiter and multiple people complaining about service. Some of the food was great and some was just ok. The bill was ridiculously expensive but mainly because we were forced into a pre-set menu which we didn't know about until we were already seated. I'll give this place one more try for the location.
I didn't enjoy myself the way I thought I would. I traveled from Long Island, NY and was told that this would be the best place to come to for brunch. Well that was completely wrong. The menu provided was not the menu I saw online and the items on the menu was not great selections to chose from. I would say I'd give this spot another try, but the food was not that great... so I'll pass!
